  • I have been told I have hypothyroidism for almost 10 years now. I take levothyroxine daily. I've lost over 90 lbs in the last year+ while adding muscle. You'll be fine, just get it controlled.
  • To do this, I changed who I was as a person. I don't reward myself for being the person I am, I just live my life. I am thankful every day for my opportunities to move closer to my goals.
  • I'm on a beta blocker for migraines. My hr is artificially low and resists changing. What you're talking about is the Borg scale, which is perceived exertion, not any kind of mechanical valuation.
  • Is it just old habits or is your deficit too severe? (or other satiety issues)
  • I do it every day with whole milk, Greek or Icelandic yogurt, and whey protein plus some other stuff.
  • I'm not an expert, but if I was logging that I'd read that as 830mg of 'salt', since Sodium Chloride is 'salt'.
  • @mpowers666 I don't think people are being dismissive or negative but rather trying to help you become stronger by changing the question. It's kind of the 'teach a man to fish' theory? The way I see it, if you rely on others they will fail you because they don't make your decisions and aren't there all the time. Can people…
  • You say you are trying for months and see no results. You say you get down and reach for 'the sugar'. Are you being consistent? Don't defeat yourself and use it to justify giving up. When I started this weight loss, I kept reading 'consistency is the key'. I thought, "that's easy, I've got this". Instead I feel panic at…
  • I use their no salt turkey and really like it. They made a mistake once and have me "lower sodium" instead and I could barely stomach it. I avoid soups, drastically reduced sausage, etc because they put way too much salt in the food and now that stuff just tastes like salt.
  • When you avoid foods, you'll have to read the ingredients. That said, you don't have to do it so often. I've done a lot of that kind of thing trying to tackle IBS. My only suggestion is create a meal that sounds good, figure out what you need for it. Buy just those ingredients, double checking the labels of anything…
  • Without knowing your goals, it's hard to say more. As long as your goals are not detremental to you, pursue them. What others comment on casually can be discouraging but what is important is your happiness and health. There is another thread going about how people say we should "stop losing weight" as a reaction. I'm not…
  • I don't know what you'll get from this, but sometimes I just don't give myself the option. I make the decision it's happening and then stop thinking about it. That way I don't let my brain interfere, once it's settled all my mood's complaints are ignored. The things I'm not determined to do is where my daily mood…
  • Independent from my efforts, my Dad lost about 70lbs. He'd have people ask him if he had cancer, if he was doing ok, etc. if they hadn't seen him since he started.
  • This is a really good point. The busier my brain is, the calmer my mind and that includes appetite (and pain).
  • And in losing weight, you will lose some of your existing muscle with the fat. (not always and dependent on deficit, diet, activity, etc)
  • I wasn't clear. I meant getting out of the hospital once you've been in a bed overnight takes a good part of the day.
  • You have to hear the strangest stuff being a nurse in the recovery room. This last time they told me I was up and talking a few hours ago... no memory of that. They gave me Cream of Wheat as my first real meal the second day, I ate it every morning for 6mo after. Careful with that leek soup.
  • @yirara You remember that stuff? I remember getting onto the table and then waking up. For each surgery, including ones I didn't spend the night in the hospital, it is up to being on the table and then waking up.
  • No. It's what I had to give up at first to lose, which I believe was your question. Not directed at anyone.
  • Specific craving, no. General hunger, yes. I'm not sure though if it's just my mind trying to make me do something else or what. I don't need procrastination to feel that kind of stress.
  • I'm pretty sure I've had steroids (in hospital, not at home) post-surgery for both my adult surgeries that included hospital overnight stay. Though the last one they advised while I was still not aware. My blood pressure crashed the last one though, the pumped me full of fluids and then vasopressors. Combined with the…
  • I get it all the time. And before that I got a lot of, "Don't lose too much!". I'm still 30-50lbs off my goal. I feels unsupportive but I know it's not meant to be that way. I usually tell them I don't have a goal weight and I'm going to eat more and gain some back once I find where I want to be.
  • Excuses. (If I'm not honest about the reality, I can't fix the issue.)
  • I pre-log and eat often. If I fall behind and let myself get hungry, especially if I don't have a plan on what I'm going to do in the kitchen, I make 'worse' choices and end up unhappy and over calorie.
  • You got out of a hospital before lunchtime? I mean, you're obviously not in the US but here you spend half the day just waiting to get released. Steroids could increase your water retention, or other things from the surgery. Heal up well!
  • I guess I'm lucky, I'm too busy there to care what other people do.
  • Overnight Oats are easy to do and allow macro adjustments by adjusting what you add. I've messed around with different sweetners, PB2, etc but currently I'm doing... 40g Rolled Oats (1/2c) 13g Chia Seeds (~1 tbsp) 15g Protein Isolate (adjust for your protein need and for flavor) 4 oz Fairlife Whole Milk (prefer with…
  • It can depend on your physical problems? My physical therapist told me that it wouldn't help my particular back issues and instead I should just focus on ergonomics and moderation. Might be great for you, but maybe you should check with someone more knowledgeable and able to look at your challenges?
  • I figure doctors are like cops, eventually they just get to looking at everyone a certain way through the lens of their cumulative bad experience? My doctor once told me that I would "probably" only lose the weight with surgery, but never pushed it or surgery. I tried to go to their weight loss clinic (not the surgery…
