  • Good luck to you and your family, it must be so hard when he leaves for a deployment, in Iraq no less! I have lots of family in the Canadian military, and relatives who fought in WW2. It is a tremendous sacrifice for your husband and your family both! :flowerforyou:
  • Hey! Here's another bonus...you look fitter AND younger :flowerforyou: Congratulations, what an accomplishment! Good wishes on your Tri.
  • I had braces for 5 years! and I second the above poster when she mentioned getting a water pic...I was happy to discover I had zero cavities after 5 years...I was worried. Spend a good deal of time cleaning those chicklets...and you can eat anything...just don't bite into things like apples, cut them up and eat them,…
  • I am a runner too... and I find it a pretty supportive community. I always exchange 'good mornings' with fellow runners whenever I run....I think he/she was trying to be encouraging. I know we can feel sort of self-conscious when we run, but I think he/she was genuinely giving you a pat on the back...as am I...*way to go!*…
  • ...and let the vitriol begin... did you read what I wrote...I said that for some people and some lifestyles low carb works..for others it does not....
  • Wow! I feel like every thread gets hijacked by the carb/no carb debate. I think everybody's body and lifestyle is different and they need different things. I would not be able to run 14k on my long run days without carbohydrates...end of...I don't think anyone could. I am not a vegetarian, I love to eat fish and meat...but…
  • My best advice is to not think about it...don't try to talk yourself into it...because that will only function to talk yourself out of it.... Someone I used to run with would tell me that he put all of his clothes out the night before, so that he didn't have to think about it...it was just automatic...no lounging in bed…
  • Wow! That is some meal. I had no idea....I'm French Canadian, and probably the closest relative to comfort food of this sort is Poutine...which consists of French Fries smothered in cheese curd and hot gravy...a hot mess of loveliness...but it is a once in a year or two thing for me right now, lol A.
  • um....perhaps off topic...but what the heck is chicken fried steak?
  • It has always been my understanding that you burn more in cold weather...for example...if you are running in -10degrees celcius, your body is working to keep warm as well as working to run...so ergo, you burn more calories. Cheers, A
  • Come to Canada! We're desperate for nurses, and you get 1 year off (paid) for maternity leave :)
  • I've been doing strength training for nearly a year and haven't used a machine once...hate them! My trainer has me do squats, lunges and free weights...working well for me
  • It is great cooked in foil on the barbecue with rings of onion and slices of lemon with fresh herbs on top....yummy
  • 25 to 31 % body fat is an acceptable percentage for women's body fat (unless an athlete)...I would not consider 32% body fat 'way to high' for you...sometimes I take what folks say in gyms with a grain of salt. Keep up the good work :flowerforyou:
  • I have never smoked before...so this may not hold much water  ...but quitting smoking is the single best thing you could ever do for your health. I am so excited when people tell me they are quitting. i work on a stroke unit at a hospital...and well....let's just say, more smokers than non-smokers on that ward. I…
  • I hope this helps...My personal trainer and I realized I wasn't eating enough during the day...so the way I avoid this is by eating an extra meal. So everyday I have two lunches with protein. Sometimes that is a salad with chicken or fish on it, other days it is a bean with quinoa salad. I also think you could amp up the…
  • Please search the topic: for those confused or questioning eating your exercise calories...a member named Banks explains this rationale very well... Generally, just eating the amount of calories and not exercising will lead to weight loss...in order to exercise you need more energy in the form of food/calories to nourish…
  • I echo what most people have said...a common mistake is to run hard and fast...slow down and walk when you have to...regularly challenge yourself to go a little further each time. Also, a side stitch is really just a cramp in your diaphragm...your major breathing muscle....when this happens, slow down...make more room in…
  • I eat a little bit before...something small...like yogurt and blueberries, or half a banana...have water, wait about 15-30 minutes...then when I come back from my run, i eat something bigger, like an omelette . A.
  • We can't get those chips in Canada anyway..just the baked ones...I think Olestra hasn't been approved here. A. (back to not having them at all...*sigh*)
  • I've had good luck with biggerbras.com...(I think that is the site...you could google it). I bought a few tops there because they are sized like bras...they are British sizes and the style of bathing suit is 'Fantasie' and "Freya". Both of these bathing suit tops are sized for a bigger busted woman. Good luck
  • Agreed...I wanted to reply, but didn't want to be a part of the arguments....here are some things I've done that are cheap and pretty healthy: 1. Go to a bulk barn and buy super healthy dried beans and chickpeas in bulk...You can cook them up during the weekend and make soups, stews and salads with them all week. 2. My new…
  • My grandfather used to take lobster in his lunch at work and was horribly embarrassed...since it marked him as someone living in poverty...how times change. I get that people lose weight on the Atkins and the cholesterol issue is very complicated...however, I work on a stroke unit...and lifestyle..high fat diet,…
  • I put vinegar in the water when i poach the eggs..it prevents the loose strands of egg white...holds it together, so to speak.
  • Do you mean you only eat 1000 calories? Because that is not enough.
  • have you ever thought of cooking in a cast iron skillet? The food you cook in the skillet absorbs some of the iron...this is safe, by the way.
  • Honestly...the uniboob is the last thing I worry about when I'm running...frankly, I welcome it if they prevent bouncing. the best one I've tried is a champion bra...it is a compression bra. i usually take a 32E...but I take a 32DD in champion so they get super-clamped down...sometimes I wear 2. A.
  • ...oh, and when i strength train..usually that takes up about 30 to 40 minutes of my time. My trainer and I change my strength training routine every 2 weeks. Cheers, A.
  • Hi, generally I run about 3 to 4 times per week (3-4 kilometres most days, then one longer run of varying lengths...7.5 km this week). Sometimes I forgo a run if I know I'm going to be going for a hike or taking in a spinning class. I also do strength training 4 times per week...2 days upper body and 2 days lower body. I…
