  • What a great job! Like the others, though, I'm struck by your beautiful smile and how friendly and open you look in your photos...like you're glowing :)
  • I have a big beautiful boy, a rescue greyhound :) His race name was Royal Caymus. He is now named Gerome and he spends his retirement lounging on my couch and cuddling up while waiting for walkies.
  • I love listening to k'naan when I run. I usually listen to 'waving flag' to start my run because it is a slower and steady beat. http://youtu.be/t976cKspbpA When I'm ramping it up I listen to Soobax, it usually gets me pumping. http://youtu.be/eYuoYQuzSko I tend to listen to songs that evoke emotion rather than a driving…
  • As interesting as steak and potato might be in a smoothy...it might bung up your machine :) My regular juice involves the following *or some variation...basics are the same: 2 cups spinach or kale 1/2 lemon (skin removed, but leave some pith) 1 apple 2 inches cucumber w/ skin 1 large carrot
  • Hi, I've been working at a plant-based diet for a year now...I am not vegan because I don't fret about honey. I like to say that I'm part of the 'where do you get your protein?' club, haha.
  • I also find that people can make snarky comments...we are all here because we struggle...keep the snarks away!!! I'm vegan and people get very offended by my food/lifestyle choices.
  • Quinoa can make a pretty yummy veggie burger also http://www.savvyvegetarian.com/vegetarian-recipes/quinoa-burgers.php
  • I echo what someone else said about bloat and increased fiber intake. Sometimes that can mimic weight gain. You might want to increase fat intake with olive oil and avocado if you like them. I am Vegan also, and I didn't experience a huge weight loss at first, your body needs to adjust. You may get a lot of people telling…
  • I think you'll be fine. your fitness is good. You can run 10k comfortably, so I think it will be ok. You've run the distance before, so you know what to expect. I would try taking some of my treadmill runs outdoors...Have fun A.
  • Try Quinoa, it is natural and a complete protein in itself.
  • I also find champion motion control bras are good...but I bought an Enell bra to fit my F-sized chest ....problem is that I am petite around the back and short...so I had to get the shoulder straps shortened on the Enell bra...a bit of a bummer since it is an expensive bra. I would try an Enell on before you buy it.
  • I keep some dried prunes and/or dates nearby and snack on them while I'm reading the paper (in bed)...or on the couch, getting mentally prepared for my run...this doesn't usually bother my tummy...in fact, on a long run, I take dates with me for energy (as opposed to energy bars that are full of chemicals and generally…
  • Yes, it does count the calories....you have to choose strength training or the circuit workout in the cardio section, NOT the strength training section. Annette
  • Sushi is great for you...but North American-style sushi...not so much. Anything with 'spicy' in the name means it has mayonnaise in it. Also, if you have issues with preservatives in your food, don't get anything with 'surimi' or 'california' in the title. Also, people order a lot of sushi in your average restaurant. I…
  • I am running my first 1/2 on Thanksgiving (Canadian - in 2 weeks). I did my training with a running store here in Canada, you can do the training online with them also. It was a 16 week program...my last run was 20k, now I am tapering for the next week or so. I skipped the tempo and speed drills, but I am glad I did the…
  • You need to try them both on and see how they work for your own feet....no one can tell you which shoes are better for you...most shoe stores will let you go for a little run in them too. Good luck, a.
  • Oh...I didn't realize it was also called a chinese gooseberry...thanks.
  • That does cost us...we pay taxes for it...which I am happy to do..
  • I'm living in Canada and probably don't understand most of what you're going through...but I echo the statement about planned parenthood. We have them here, and they provide exams and free birth control for folks who cannot afford it or don't have a private health plan. I also generally find them quite sensitive and…
  • I don't know, I felt the apology was sincere. :flowerforyou: So few people actually apologize anymore and justify their actions instead. I'm glad he apologized to her, she deserved an apology. He seemed genuinely remorseful and said it made him question a lot of things about his life... I don't think that kind of…
  • In my experience, speed work is more taxing on an injury than a long, slow distance. I would probably still push back the timing of your half marathon...but I wouldn't consider doing speed work to better a 10k distance a rest...you may increase likelihood of injury. my 2 cents :) Good luck with the running :) btw..great…
  • Hi, I didn't know you could make it public...I just did. I hope it helps you, I am allowed 1200 calories per day (since I'm a shortie). However, I've done weights and a bit of elliptical today. I'm not always consistent with recording my food, but I have made an accurate effort today. Cheers, a.
  • Ok...I feel like I tempted the gods by writing on this post yesterday...because today, on my long run, someone commented on my breasts and was terribly lewd in addition to that (and I don't find that flattering...maybe some people do, but I most definitely do not). I yelled something at him, something I've never said to…
  • Well said CasperO !!! :flowerforyou:
  • While running in Toronto, a man and what appeared to be his son were in a truck heckling me while I was running. I tried my best to ignore them, but the last thing they did before they sped off was throw a carton of half eaten Mcdonald's french fries smothered in ketchup on me...and they were both laughing their heads…
  • How does your daughter tolerate quinoa? If you make a chili, you could pour it over the quinoa, which is an excellent source of complete protein. Odd in a grain, but true. It is great that she loves beans, that will save some aggrivation
  • I love a generous helping of steel cut oats with maple syrup and apples and/or chopped almonds
  • sounds delicious...I'm going to try this one on the weekend :) Thanks
  • Do you get a lunch break at work? If you do, just make a decision to go out and walk briskly for 20 minutes or so everyday during that time...it might have the positive effect of also giving you an extra energy boost. Then take Saturday and Sunday and go for really long walks or walk/run's in the morning...Good luck :)
  • Thanks, I'll try it:love:
