  • I have heard that upping your calories a bit for a few weeks will help. You only want to up your calories by 300 or so (just enough to maintain your current weight). Stick with this "maintinence" for a little while. Then reduce your calories again. A plateau is when your body is too used to what its been doing (low…
  • Thanks for sharing! You are inspiring.
  • Try interval training. Instead of doing a steady cardio workout, add some extreme intervals with cool downs. For example, sprint full out for 12 seconds and walk for 8 seconds, or however long it takes you to catch your breath, then sprint again. I used to jog, but switched to this and lost 2 inches around my waist (even…
  • I have had some lower back pain also, my pain is from a bulged disk. I was told not to do any weight bearing exercises that will strain my back, but simple core exercises are good. Also, sitting is the worst thing for your lower back, so it might help to get up every hour and stand. Stretching and yoga have been helping…
  • When you go to your goals, use the custom and select the 2 lbs a week so it will give you your calorie goal. That calorie goal is without exercise. Say then you exercise 500 calories, you can eat 500 more calories and still be on track to lose the 2lbs a week.
  • I used to use it years ago. I honeslty think it helped with food cravings! Actually, not that I am thinking about it I should start using it again :) As long as you take the recommended amount, it can't hurt you. I would give it a go!
  • My resting heartrate is in the 70's and when I workout I shoot between 155-170. 170 is working really hard. It is said that you should try to work out at a pace where you can talk, but not too comfortably. If you can talk easily then you are working out too easy.
  • What temp and how long do you cook salmon for appx? Do you wrap it in foil?
  • HRM is a heart rate moniter. I usually burn 400 calories in 55 minutes... but there was one Zumba class I took that I only burned like 200 it was soooooooo slow!
  • That is a hard decision, but I think you are doing the right thing. Focus now on balance, and not gaining weight. At this point in time, grades do come first. When finals are over, you can pick it back up again. I am going into a Master's program for School Psychology in the Fall, and am very nervous about what you just…
  • I remember feeling that way when I was younger. I was made fun of for being "fat". Really though, now looking back, I wasnt fat. At the most, I was chunky lol. I have just always had a bigger build, and unfortunatly kids view this as fat. My mom has always dieted, so I followed that example, and that lead to a lifetime of…
  • I am engaged and getting married in June. I have focused on losing weight the healhy way, slow and steady. I work out 5 days a week and use MFP. The stress of wedding planning can make you want to eat, if that is your coping mechanism. Working out will help that a lot! Helps control stress! My advice is to shoot for 15 lbs…
  • One sandwhich is only 280 calories and I would think that the bread makes up about 100 of that. Good luck!
  • Protien is good, you really can't eat too much unless you eat like Atkins low. And Atkins low isn't bad if you do it for a short amount of time, its just long term that may have negative effects. If your carbs are high also, then you are doing fine!
  • I drink vodka, soda water (not tonic!) and a splash of pineapple, or cran with a lime or orange wedge. The spash gives it just enough without all the calories and sugar. But, if this is your going out night, have fun! Everyone deserves a cheat night :) Actually, I don't drink a lot, and when I go out and have a couple, I…
  • Thanks guys!
  • I do not have Celiacs. They did a blood test before that said negative but the best way to tell ifi you have it by a biopsy. I was having severe stomach pain issues though so I wanted to get to the bottom of what it was, not to mention that if you have Celiacs and dont know it you can get cancer. It is best to get tested…
  • What time do you work? If you are working for over a few hours after dinner, I would cut your pre work dinner in 1/2 and eat the other 1/2 on a break at work or right when you get home. You should try and not eat a couple of hours before bed, but if you are working a night shift your body will need something. Protien would…
  • I was tested. I had an endoscopy. It was super painless and easy. I went in to the hospital, they give you the sedative ( I only got to 9 when they told me to count back from 10) and the next thing I remember is being transferred into my recovery bed. Two hours later my high was over I went home and would never have even…
  • I would say to make sure that you eat enough protien and watch carbohydrates. My moms doctor (weight loss specialist) told her to shoot for 100 grams of protien a day and to try and not go over 75 grams of carbs. I decided to follow that and I finally overcame my stall. I am on my last 10-15 and I couldn't lose weight for…
  • You could try to wear a moniter at work and see what it says. Honeslty I wouldn't count it as exercise though. When you put in your stats on MFP, it should ask you how active your job is, and that is where you should input your activity level for your job. By putting active as compared to sedentary it adjusts for more/less…
  • Eggs are good for breakfast, or snacks as hard boiled, or sandwiches. I personally feel like cereal has gotten really expensive lately... FIber Plus granola bars are yummy and have lots of fiber. Just try and find the healthiest version of what you can afford and don't eat past a certain time (like 10pm) cuz most college…
  • I am not sure about the 1-2 lbs of muscle per month. But to track muscle gain you could get a scale that weighs your lbs of body fat. I have the weight watchers one and it is fairly accurate. My mom got her body fat tested at the doctor and the next day on my scale it was only off by 2 lbs. This way you can look at if you…
  • How rude!!!!!! I am not sure 100% but I know there is no point of doing crunches (besides strength and posture) until your body fat is low. If there is a layer of fat on top of muscle, you won't see any of the muscle. In theory that trainer does sound correct, however I have never experienced it. If anything doing…
  • I can see the difference already! Wow! I think I have to go buy those...
  • Sorry to say this but this website is probably the last place you should be if you have an eating disorder. Take care of your mind first, and the rest will follow. Seriously if you focus on getting to the root of why you have/had an eating disorder, one day your health will follow in a positive way. Any shape or size, no…
  • That is awesome! I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but in the long run, if you lose that weight as slow as you have been, it will be really hard to gain it back. The only time I ever got my last 10 lbs off was by doing hard core Atkins and running 5 miles a day. Congrats to you for doing it a healthier way!
  • First of all you have already lost 21 lbs so you are doing good! Everyone has there cheat days. Today if you need a burger with fries and an ice cream cone, thats ok, just go to the store and make them yourself. That way you can buy the healthiest foods and make the healthiest version possible. It might help also to write…
  • That sounds so good! What are the cals in that?
  • I have an idea. Lets say you go for an hour walk at 3.5 miles per hour on no incline. I would put that in as your exercise on MFP, but maybe while you are doing the walk do some intervals. Jog for 1 minute in five minute intervals, or raise the incline something like that. That way you would probably be burning more…
