  • This looks like what we made but we used cream cheese mixed up with some of the pear juice instead of mayo (which in our house was Miracle Whip) I always hated "mayo" until I discovered what real mayo actually tasted like.
  • a couple of months ago I could not wear a pair of capris because they were too tight, last month I could just sort of wear them golfing. Today I wore them and had plenty of room in the pockets for spare balls and tees----AND I did not need the spare balls because no balls were lost in any creek or lake. All is good!
  • You look beautiful---I am 5'4" and am at 178 today and my goal is 160. I am so grateful that you posted and followed up with your results. I looked at my calories for normal BMI at my age and it was 1350, I just can't do that! If I saw you walking in the park I would think "wow-that is exactly how I want to be at my goal!"…
  • Thank you everyone for saving me money. I do have a low heart rate (according to the Polar) and I know that when I was riding my horse a spook would have me "burning" a ton of calories when sitting still. I just see so much about them that i thought that by some miracle you wore this on your wrist (with no chest strap) and…
  • Again---63 is not 70 and needing a cane. At 65 I was doing similar things, a few "overuse injuries" and a major health issue and surgery (and treatment) had me very heavy for the first time in my life at 70. I was young and super charged at 65,planning on staying that way. I think the OP probably with her cane and health…
  • I second this!! My weekly average is in the area of 1200---never over but under by about 100, I know that I'm probably close to 1200 even on days that are under. My sort of rule is stay above 1000---which in this heat and a house with no AC is hard. Do leave something on the plate when you eat out, start small--just leave…
  • 50 and low 60s are young!!! The difference between 50 and 70 (for many people) is a big jump, for me it was 65-70 was a big jump.
  • Slowfaster I want to support you. I am just shy of 70, started at 200 and at 1200 cal lost a the rate of about 1 lb a week. Now at 180 my 1200 cal will give me a loss of .7 a week, when I get to 170 it will be less than half a pound a week. for those people who say they would be STARVING and that 1200 is not substainable,…
  • Scrapple and Shoo fly pie
  • I'm 65 and do not have a gym near by. First I walk at least 30 min at least 4 days a week. We live in the hills but when I started I would just walk down in the valley on a flat route. I also bike (not on the hills) when the weather is nice. I use in home DVDs. For a beginner Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds videos are…
  • It is the message that drinking water is just not cool, sort of like if a candy company had a person say that veggies were ucky and candy is better. There is a move to try to teach kids to eat good natural healthy food to live longer healthier lives. It is solely the job of parents to feed them and for schools to have…
  • Actually day 1 was a success. You learned alot about your eating habits, that you have to figure out what your best eating schedule is. You also had a wakeup call about how much you eat. See what you can learn on day 2.
  • There is an entry for homemade stock from bones (Betty Crocker cookbook I think) in the data base. I make my own stock and use that, can't stand the watery store stuff and think all the good stuff the bones give is better...might be why I have great nails!
  • Just turned 65--Have taken Tai Chi for 7 years (I even have a cool sword!) Do alot of walking and wogging on hilly terrain along with biking. Have a large collection of DVDs and if I don't hike will do one of them, favorites are Jillian Michaels and a couple of really really old Kick Butt and step. I do basic strength with…
  • Pure beautiful local seasonal ingredients prepared and presented perfectly. The ingredients and preparation depend on where you are and when you are there. Sort of like what is barbeque? (I believe NC Piedmont topped with slaw)
  • OP--you are very young yourself, it is wonderful that you have a friend who has a family and a teenage daughter, but realize that you may not know everything that the mother is trying to do for her child. You may come off as an inexperienced know it all and hurt your friendship. Just lead by example, not words.
  • I have a large dressage warmblood and my HRM says that when I sit even her working trot I burn more than rising the trot. It depends on the horse and what type of riding you do and how big the horses gaits are.
  • I have met with a trainer (who told me to ditch the Barbi weights) and have a routine that I do 2 or 3 days a week. At your age I would consider "lifting heavy" but trust me--at your age I was running 3-5 miles at a time something changes after your mid 60s. Now 12 pounds is lifting heavy, considering years ago I started…
  • I created my own activities since I use DVDs I have an entry for each title. I also ride dressage and create dressage training (horse riding). Just make a a name like robtraining and log it that way.
  • As a group try a new type of exercise. I have been studying Tai Chi for seven years and have seen dramatic changes in my friends. Think about TC or gentle yoga. (I think TC has more benefits) Start to do something with weights--start with soup cans. Start to learn dances--or every so often have someone come up with a dance…
  • I go through the ads Sat morning and plan my dinners for the week...which I post on the fridge. Then I log the dinners in advance so that I can plan the rest of the day around them. I do like to cook so I have prelogged a couple of stock dinners under "my meals" and have also entered my own recipes. This took time in the…
  • I am a great fan of Goodwill for between sizes, I have stopped looking at sizes completely, with vanity sizing and clothes being made in all kinds of different countries where every size label is different I just try stuff on, if it fits great, if not it goes back on the rack. It has nothing to do with Goodwill (or your…
  • You are at a great weight and very fit so why are you aiming for the bottom of normal. You don't want to hear this but you are a woman now and when you were younger you were still a teenager and therefore not fully grown yet. I would say keep toning and staying fit and let how you feel be your guide, not the scale. Good…
  • Good luck in your studies. For your height 130 is reasonable. Being a sport horse person who has owned off the track TBs but mainly WBs I would say for a long term career network with all types of horse people. Your education should help. PS looks like a cute horse you have.
  • Do you work with a racing stable, breeding farm or trainer now? Have you had experience working with and riding the "kids"? You don't have to ride baby TBs for a career with horses. What is your equine sport now? I was a DQ and there were always openings for working students in any big training barn, and the same is true…
  • For me (a serious wine drinker) I have found two solutions. First its all about the glass--so during the week when I go wineless I pour my Perrier in a good wine glass. For the weekend I splurge on a bottle of expensive good wine (as opposed to guzzle wine ) and open it, let it rest and sip (not guzzle ). Pair it with a…
  • I use a Polar HRM and with a combo of 5 and 10 pound weights, doing regular jumping jacks instead of plank jacks I burn between 200 and 240 cals per session. Don't be dissappointed by this--it is only 20 min and much of that is not cardio so I think this is realistic.
  • I forgot to add that you should do that "fit test" to adjust your Polar if it has that feature (mine is F11). That gave me more cals per session. But again, as you get more fit it is harder to burn huge numbers.
  • It could be that this is what your body can do. You are at a perfect weight and in very good shape. Why do you want to burn more calories? The advice this older lady (63) can give you is to keep up a reasonable lifestyle for the rest of your life. You want to continue to have an active injury free life and congrats--you…
  • I have worn my HRM for WATP--with the balls, stretchy, walk and jog and walk and kick. It doesn't seem to matter which I burn about 210-230 cals per 30 min or a little over 400 per hour. I'm 63 and weigh 165. Hope that helps! I created my own log in my exercises I call WATP to record it. I do this for all my DVDs
