  • OMG. This topic is so ridiculous. When Christian Bale went down to like 130 lbs at like 6'1" for his role in "The Machinist" not a soul was criticizing him for being a poor role model nor was anyone worrying about his health. In fact he was overwhelmingly praised for his "commitment to his craft". And he was at a WAY more…
  • Haha I hear you on that. It was a lot easier to stay in shape 15-20 yrs ago for sure. Message me and tell me what you do for exercise, how many times per week, how many calories you average, and for how long you've been doing these things CONSISTENTLY. I'll do my best to give you some direction.
  • No need to be any of those things professionally. The most imprtant thing is that you ask questions from more knowledgeable people (there is ALWAYS someone that knows more and/or has different experiences), stay away from any "magic bullets", fad diets, silly fitness products/routines/videos. Lift. Try and always give good…
  • What a story! Always helps to have a kick *kitten* story to go with a scar, you know? But now my scars from my shoulder surgery don't look so impressive! Lol! Glad to have added you as a friend!
  • Wow! What a string of bad luck. Awesome perserverance on your part to keep on truckin' after every set back. That mental strength shows you can overcome any obstacles thrown in your path. Very impressive. I'm proud to have you on my friends list! On another note, one of my friends was bitten by a copperhead also and had a…
  • You never really lose that mentality, nor should you! Thanks for the response! (Dang girl - that's an incision! Holy crap!)
  • "TDEE" is just a rough estimate. BMR, RMR, TDEE, all of these calculations are estimates that should be "close" for the majority of people. Just because an online calculator tells you that your TDEE is 3000 cals doesn't mean it isn't really 2800. Just FYI. Also, if you are novice or relatively novice to weight training,…
  • By "steroids" I'm assuming not anabolic steroids? Lol! Seriously though, just start with basics. Start with stretching and working on your mobility. Walk around the block for 20 minutes. Do bodyweight squats in the living room while the kids watch Bubbleguppies. Just start moving and grow your daily activity over time.…
  • Sorry - didn't check out the link you put first. That all looks pretty good but I'd ditch the clean and press, the pullover, and the upright row at least at first. Completely unnecessary at first. You can add things like that in later. Great place to start. Search youtube for some demonstrations of proper form on these…
  • Congrats on your progress so far! Not only with the weight loss, but the change in mindset that the scale is NOT a true indicator of progress or health/fitness! If you already have a bar and some plates and a place to use them to fight gravity you are good to go! I'd stick to VERY simple exercises at first. Do you have a…
  • If you hate lunges? Stop doing them. Did I not get the memo that lunges are a necessary integral part of physique development/weight loss/fitness? Lol! Seriously though, you don't like them because they are hard and you aren't good at them. That's a strength and conditioning issue. Do more lunges and get stronger and more…
  • Couldn't agree more with JoRocka. Walk. Just move. Work on your mobility. Stretch, foam roll, etc. See a specialist regarding your issues. Start with baby steps. Body weight exercises. DON'T OVER DO IT! You didn't get out of shape overnight. It will take some time and trying to rush the process can just make it worse,…
  • Are you a novice to weight training? Compound, compound, compound. After you've developed some basal strength then you can start sprinkling in some isolation exercises. If you are new to lifting, doing curls and side laterals will do little if nothing for you. Not to mention you will burn more calories performing compound…
  • 5000 cals? No. I just spent the past 6 months bulking on around 4000. And I weigh 100 more pounds than you. Without knowing what your exercise routine is comprised of, I can say that if you are at 2500 and not gaining, up it only 250-350 cals at a time. Jumping it up by 1000 cals or more you won't be able to know if that's…
  • Is this what HE wants to do? If so, then you need to find his maintenance calories, then add about 300 cals. Limit his cardio/boxing etc to minimums. Use a program like Stronglifts 5x5. Or as someone commented above, see juggernaut fitness on youtube and get Jason Blaha's 5x5 beginner program. Have him do no curls, leg…
  • 6'1", SW: 280, CW: 225, GW: 205? Keep on truckin guys! It's taken a year and a half for me to lose 55 pounds, I slipped up and went off course a few times in that time, but always got back on track and I can now see my end goal finally in sight!

  • This is the way to go. You go Navy and get FMF there is NO way you will regret that decision. You will be able to take pride in what you do everyday in an active role. Not all sailors, soldiers, marines, and definitely airmen can even say that.
  • Congratulations on the weight loss and your decision to join the military! Luckily you have the knowledge to keep your weight within standards in the future!
  • I'm prior Navy so I'm admittedly a little biased, but either would be okay. Only thing I would say is your duty station would be WAY better in the Navy. Always somewhere on the water, where as in the Army you could end up anywhere. And I mean ANYWHERE
  • I spent almost 9 years as a personal trainer. It's funny how we will pay for piano or guitar lessons, but think having a professional teach us how to use 30,000 square feet of modern fitness equipment that can permanently damage you is a luxury not a necessity. That being said, trainers are all not created equal. All it…
  • I'm glad somebody else was thinking this too. Why is he living at home at 22, angry with Mommy for not buying him chicken wings? Seriously? As another poster said, if he lived on his own he wouldn't have all that extra cash for booze, smokes, and junk food. He might get some self confidence by not having to be dependent on…
  • Start taking measurements. The scale is an evil liar! Seriously though, if you are losing inches, but not weight, then you know that you ARE losing fat and just retaining water or putting on new muscle tissue
  • Aerospace quality assurance
  • Put more weight on the bar is what I would guess. Are those last 2 sets hard at all? Edit: Also, a lot of people say they don't "feel" it in their chest but when you ask them where they feel it they will point to their upper bicep/armpit region. This is where your pectoral muscle insertion is, so they feel the stress there…
  • That is awesome! Plateaus suck and are what cause a lot of people to quit! Way to perservere! What did you do to break your plateau?
  • Close to my highest: Down 55 pounds: Hope to post soon with more weightloss photos! Tried to fix it for you! My wife and I are in the same boat. Congrats on your current success and good luck to both of you in the future!
  • If you are going to McD's just for ice cream, a small cone only has 150 cals and a dipped cone only has like 230..........
  • Mio. Or crystal light. I rarely use either, but I know people who do won't drink plain water without it. My wife loves Mio! Also, it takes a while of forcing yourself to keep drinking. Even when you're not thirsty, make yourself take a drink. Slowly your body will adapt. Eventually, you will become accustomed to the amount…
  • So yeah, what everyone else is saying. Is there any effectiveness to the herbal ingredients in these products? Maybe. How much is the question. If shelling out $50 or more a month for supplements that give you let's say a 5% faster body fat reduction is worth it to you, then give it a shot. I wouldn't expect any more…
