  • Today workout A came around again and I managed: Squat: 45kg (99lbs - next time is over 100!) Bench: 30kg (66lbs) Row: 32.5 kg (71.5lbs) For some reason, I wasn't really feeling it - maybe it was waiting around for the squat rack than I had expected for a Sat afternoon. I read in another thread about the problem of wearing…
  • I don't count calories anymore (did for 5 months and then got bored), but I continue to wear my HRM when I workout because it tells me a lot about my levels of exertion and recovery times. I always wear it when I run, but hadn't really thought about wearing it whilst lifting until the other day. I had just found it so…
  • In two weeks my weight has stayed the same but I've lost 1% body fat. And I eat pretty comfortably and don't count calories.
  • Hi all, I've been lurking in the wings of this group since the new year, when I started lifting properly. I've been wanting to for ages, but got distracted by other things in the latter half of last year. I was previously doing an outdoor bootcamp with body weight exercises and HIIT 3 mornings a week, but a new job has…
  • I have the same - went from not being able to run at all to now being able to run 10k, and even run in cold weather. Two things helped me improve my lungs: 1. Go slow. I found it better to build up stamina than to have to stop because my lungs are tightening up. Sometimes, particularly up hills, I feel like I am at the…
  • I also just started and did workout A for the first time last night. Really enjoyed it!! Add me if you are interested.
  • My OH and I manage on £40-£50 a week. I find eating healthy to be cheaper, mostly because we don't eat out or drink as much, which saves LOADS. I do the weekly shop at Tesco online, which makes it easy to shop based on deals - they delivery, and we use it for all canned goods (and always get tesco value brand - saves…
  • That sounds about right, assuming of course that you have no sides with it. I think a half chicken is about 350 or so, which is what I normally eat, along with the luso beans. Nandos can be very healthy if you avoid the chips and coleslaw!!
  • I was vegetarian for 17 years, and vegan for one year. I just started eating meat again about six months ago and LOVE it. It didn't make any particular difference to my weight loss (I was losing about 5lbs a month before, and that continued), but I think the way I eat is way better and I have more energy for it. Benefits…
  • New Rules of Lifting for Women is a good book to start with.
  • THanks all, that is very helpful. I think it might be time to cancell my Fitness First membership and probably go for easyGym in Wood Green. It's a little bit further away, and doesn't have the benefit of a sauna and steam room, but the FF is so much smaller, so it means it is a long wait for the weights that I want to…
  • I do a fantastic bootcamp three mornings a week (M, W, F) in Russell Square - it's a great mix of strength and conditioning work, very fun, and not at all scary (all encouragement, no shouting). If you are interested in details, message me and I can put you in touch with the guy who runs it.
  • bump - anyone?
  • wow, you look so much younger in your current photos! great work, very noticeable changes. Keep it up!!!
  • I just made these last night but: -added four or six (can't remember which!) scoops of chocolate protein powder -skipped the applesauce because I didn't have any -used agave instead of sugar -added a fair bit of cinnamon They came out great and even the OH liked them. Made a great mid-morning snack and I think particularly…
  • wow - what an amazing change!!! You are looking fantastic!!
  • Fruit OR protein (such as some chicken breast) OR mint gum telds to distract me.

  • Really glad to find this group. So far I have lost 33lbs with better eating and exercise, but now want to focus on dropping my body fat a few percentage points, so I am going for weights. I've started reading the book but about to go on a beach holiday, so will study it whilst I am away and come back ready to start in…
  • I've done it twice in one day - if you're fit enough you will be fine, maybe a little sore after, but that's not a bad thing. I've done L1 and L2 right after one another when I knew I had 45 mins to work out rather than just 25.
  • Thanks so much everyone, it is so nice to get such fantastic encouragement!!!! Just got NROLFW and been reading up on 5x5, so planning to venture into the proper weights section of the gym tonight.
  • You look amazing!! I am working towards abs like that - hope I get there eventually!!!
  • I am 5'8" and just posted some photos here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/615328-before-and-today-33lbs-lost-5-8-pics These are of me around 189lbs, 165, and 156.
  • Thanks guys! PS - I eat a minimum of 1900 calories a dayn - any less than that I start to get very grumpy!!
  • I am in London - lost 33lbs since October. You can do it!!!
  • Try making your own yoghurt - google instructions, it is easy and so long as milk is cheaper than yoghurt, you are away!!
  • Here's another penguin for you. I am also 5'8", started at 189, now at 156, so you can do it!!!
  • I am much more regular since I have been eating them (about a month). I put them in my porridge in the morning, or sprinkle them on a slice of peanut butter on toast, or sprinkle on a sliced banana with some peanut butter. I quite like the taste and the crunch they give.
  • My plateau ended when I stopped worrying about the numbers on the scale and starting focusing on strength - less cardio and more weights, lifting as heavy as I could for 5-8 reps, and more body weight exercises, like setting challenges for push up and pull ups. I started to noticeably "tone" and then the scale started…
  • i've never been able to do a pull up in my life, but I am getting closer by training on the assisted pull up machine. Hopefully I get there soon!
