"Healthy" cinema snacks??
I have been going to the cinema more recently, as it is a good weekend activity that keeps me out of the pub. Last night I had a snack before going in the hope that this would make me not want any snacks whilst there, but it was too hard to resist and I (mistakenly) bought some chilli rice crackers thinking they would be…

Squat form (again)
So I had a friend video of my lifts this weekend to check my form, which was really helpful. Everything was better than I thought, EXCEPT my squats. I thought they were aok, but I am not going as low as it feels like and I am not hitting parallel. I was currently at 55kg (121lbs). Should I now drop down to a lower weight…

Harissa paste - WOW
I just bought some harissa paste, and wasn't really sure what to do with it. Tonight I added it into some prawn and seafood soup that I made and it was AMAZING. Really added loads of flavour to the soup and I didn't add any other seasoning except for some black pepper. What do you like to use harissa paste for?

HRM and lifting
Does anyone else wear a heart rate monitor whilst lifting? I did last night for the first time and found it very interesting. After two weeks it is starting to get really hard, and I found that after a set, particularly of squats, my heart rate was up to a range as if I was jogging. During the rest it then goes down pretty…

North London - workout buddies?
Hiya, I live in North London and go to EasyGym in Wood Green - if there is anyone else that goes there and wants to lift some weights together, please get in touch. I am about to start week 2 of 5x5. Also, if there are any outdoor runners in the area, please get in touch. It's a tad icey out for me to run right now, but I…

Lost weight and now shoes don't fit?!
I've lost 35lbs and now some of my slip on shoes don't fit anymore - I get big gap at my heel when I try to walk and so they slip with every step. Is it possible to lose fat from your feet so as to affect your shoe size, or am I just going crazy?!

easyGym???
Has anyone (in the UK, don't think they are anywhere else) tried easyGym? I am currently a member of Fitness First, but even on a discounted student membership, I need to cut costs. There is an easyGym in Wood Green and one in Slough. I had a look around the one in Wood Green today, and it looked surprisingly good! Our…

Before and today - 33lbs lost, 5'8" *pics*
I am 5'8" and my starting weight was about 189 (not exactly sure) before I kicked my but into gear in early October 2011. I started cycling to and from work (30 mins each way) and doing bootcamp for 45mins three mornings a week. I would occasionally throw in an extra workout here and there, such as circuit class, jogging,…

No alcohol for the rest of March - challenge
I don't drink a lot, maybe once or twice a week, but I've realised that when I do drink, it makes me eat rubbish and feel rubbish. So I am setting myself a challenge of no alcohol for the rest of March. Anyone want to join me?

Achilles pain
I have started to get some pain in my foot, I think maybe the achilles tendon - the back of my foot is sore with movement, but not with touch. I have been cycling daily, bootcamp 3x a week, and running 3-5 miles 1-2x a week. The pain started yesterday, when I happened to do all three in one day, and had a particularly long…

25lbs down - before and during pics
After my holiday in August 2011 to South Africa, I didn't feel particularly good about myself and deleted most of the unflatting photos of me. When I stepped on the scale on my returnat the end of August I was 189 (I am 5'8) and realised I needed to do something. I started cycling most days, but not much shifted during…

50 Miles in March challenge!
I am running a 10k race on 31 March and really need some motivation to train between now and then. I already cycle 10 miles a day and do a bootcamp 3 days a week, so its easy to come up with excuses as to why I don't need to run as well. My last 10k race involved a fair bit of walking and finishing in 78 minutes. I'd like…

Home made yoghurt!
Yesterday I read some articles about how to make home made yoghurt and decided to give it a go last night. I made it in my rice cooker, using the "cook" setting to get it up to 180 (85C), then a cold bath to bring it down to 120(45C) - unfortunately my thermometer only went as low as 60C, so I just used the "finger test"…

NSV - Size 12 suit!!!
Huzzah! Tonight I tried on an old size 12 (uk) suit that I haven't fit into in at least 5 years, and IT FIT. All my size 14s and 16s are now hanging off me, so I will be wearing the SIZE 12 tomorrow!!

Sunday - What exercise are you going to do today?
Sometimes I need an extra bit of motivation on a Sunday, when it is easy to just lay around. I am hoping that posting my goal for the day will make me a bit more accountable. I am planning to go for a 40 minute run today. What exercise do you plan to do today? Please share your plans and then check in after you've…

Macros?
What is a good ratio to set your fat, carb, protein macros to? I know the preset ones on here put protein very low (15%) and I was always going over. So I'd like to set mine to a good ratio that promotes losing fat and gaining muscle. There are a lot of suggestions on the internet, from 45% carb, 30% protein, 25% fat, to…

"Healthy" lasagne recipes?
I have some lasagne sheets left over from when I used to make lasagne with ricotta and motz. I've never really made lasagne any other way than with a lot of cheese. Does anyone have any interesting/creative recipes for lasagne? Thanks!

HRM and BMR question
If my BMR is about 1500, then I am burning an average of 62 calories an hour if I stayed in bed. If I do 30 minutes of exercise and my heart rate monitor (polar ft7) says that I burned 300 calories, so I need to subtract the equivalent of my BMR to accurately log it onto MFP? So 300-31 = 269? I have seen some people…

Sweet and Sour Eggplant, Tomatoes and Chickpeas
I've made this a few times now and it is awesome: Sweet and Sour Eggplant, Tomatoes and Chickpeas This Lebanese dish is all about summer. Pomegranate molasses makes it both sweet and sour; you can find it in Middle Eastern markets. Serve the dish as a starter, a side or a main dish with grains. 1 large eggplant (1 1/4 to 1…

Favourite Jillian? And space...
I see so many rave reviews for Jillian DVDs on here that I was thinking of giving one a go. Which one is your favourite and/or which one would you recommend doing first? AND I only have a small-ish living room - do you need a lot of space to do it? Thanks!

UK people - where do you shop?
I currently get my weekly groceries through Tesco online, which is very convenient, BUT they don't always have some of the more specialist items, like uncooked Quinoa or even black beans. Holland and Barret are not cheap. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I live in London but am also happy to buy things online. Any…

Non-diary replacements (soy, oat, almond etc)
In the last month I've switched to non-diary milks so am now trying out different options available in the UK. So far, for soy milk, my favourite for flavour is Alpro soy light. I also tried Oatly on a recommendation from a colleague and have mixed feelings - I wasn't expecting it to be so watery. I've always liked rice…

Homemade protein bars
Does anyone make their own protein bars? Can you share or recommend a recipe? I would like to make some to have for snacks throughout the day, and they are so expensive to buy and I hate reading endless labels to check what is in them. Thanks!

UK - where do you shop?
I've found in the UK that the health food stores are just not as good or common as in the US. Holland and Barret doesn't have much choice and is expensive. Grocery stores (in the tesco, asda, sainsburys price range) are ok, but again choice is limited. Do you have any good health food shops in london, or tips for finding…

Let's go for a run!
I was lazying around this Sunday and am trying to motivate myself to go for a run, so I thought it might be good to motivate ourselves today together. I am going go try to do 30mins (5k). What is your exercise goal today?
