  • I was exactly where you are three years ago - post chemo and mastectomy. I think it's totally normal to put on weight during chemo (better than losing too much and ending up in the hospital multiple times like I did). Best of luck with radiation -- most people find it easier than chemo or surgery, as you probably know.…
  • I have bought my Fitbits on blinq.com, which has open box electronics. They're usually 40 to 50% off.
  • Deanna, I went back and checked and I only have 15 data points for the last month, so I think you are right that I should wait and see. Lorrpb, thanks for that tip, it smoothed out my line!
  • Thank you, that makes sense. I haven't weighed daily and especially had a lot of missing days in August while I was on vacation. I guess it makes sense to make a small adjustment now, since I wouldn't mind being a few pounds lighter.
  • You could also try lifting less frequently -- would that be more tolerable? Nia Shanks has a program for 2x a week and she recommends it for people who are in a phase where they are not loving strength training. http://www.niashanks.com/two-day-strength-program/
  • Good point - yes, I'm talking about the kind from the store which has already been processed in some way. You can eat it "raw" like the OP, or apparently, cooking it and cooling it helps resistant starch build up as well.
  • Uncooked oatmeal is high in resistant starch, which is thought to be good for your gut health. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resistant_starch http://www.healthline.com/nutrition/9-foods-high-in-resistant-starch
  • Knittnponder, I am very sorry for your loss. You have certainly had every reason for emotional eating!
  • shortchange1, agreed, you will bounce back, and relatively quickly because you're already in such great shape. Best of luck with the surgery.
  • I'm not posting to judge anyone, but just in case anyone has read previous posts and thought that once they have kids they will no longer be able to exercise. I will admit to having not exercised regularly some of the time since my oldest child was born. But I can't blame it on having kids. I have used all of the following…
  • I did that. I lost the first 10 lbs using alternate day fasting, where you eat 500 calories every other day, and it came off quickly. Then (ironically, since I was losing weight to lower my cancer risk), I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Due to stress and complications from chemo, I quickly lost another 10. I am now down…
  • Thanks for the encouragement! I googled Maximum Muscle and it looks like a solid program. I've also heard a lot about PHUL on the forum lately. I see they are both 4-day a week programs. I prefer weightlifting only 3 days a week at this point, as I really like cardio and feel like I get some good mental benefits from it.…
  • Congrats to both of you on being finished with treatment. When I was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2014, I was just about to start a weightlifting program called New Rules of Lifting for Women. I decided to go ahead and do it during treatment (chemo, surgery, radiation). I also did some low-key cardio on…
  • Don't forget the Firm Aerobic Workout with Weights! Does anyone remember Master Instructor Susan Harris? http://www.totalfitnessdvds.com/The-Firm-Body-Sculpting-Basics-DVD-Susan-Harris-p/2177.htm
  • Have a look at this website. I used it after we adopted our son from overseas. It's got some good tips for maximizing calories per bite, increasing interest in food, etc. http://adoptionnutrition.org/ Best of luck!
  • The only way I can stand using the elliptical for longer than 5 minutes is to stream TV shows on my iPad. I actually look forward to it now. But if you really don't like cardio, you could just do strength training.
  • I use yogaglo.com. I had taken live classes at studios for many years before subscribing, but there are a lot of intro classes and tutorials for beginners. The teachers are some of the best-known in the world. I believe there is a free one-month trial and then it is $18 a month.
  • If you're looking for something that is kind of a transition between Jillian Michaels and a heavy lifting program, you could try Beachbody's Chalean Extreme, which uses heavy dumbbells. I did it twice, and then bought some equipment and now am working my way through New Rules of Lifting for Women.
  • Wow!!! That is very inspiring. Congratulations on your win!
  • Just checking in on you . . .
  • This was great. I hope you find a special someone who is more appropriate very soon!
  • Congratulations on getting past this big step! Sending wishes for a smooth recovery and good pathology report!
  • I had a VivoSmart for about 24 hours this weekend but then returned it and got a FitBit One. The idea of the VivoSmart seemed really cool and I liked the way it could be set up with a heart monitor, but it was just too buggy. I could only get about half the functions to sync and the Move bar (which is supposed to show you…
  • Yes, I have lost the same 12-15 lbs not once, not twice, but three times since my daughter was born 7 years ago. The first time was on Weight Watchers and the last two times have been on MFP. I think this time it will stay off though, as I plan to keep logging indefinitely. I find it's helpful not just for calorie counting…
  • I'm so sorry you are going through this right now. It seems like chemo can cause so many weird and unpredictable changes in our bodies -- such as making that CEA number bounce around. It sounds like the other marker is more reliable, and that one is stable. I hope the time period until your scan passes as quickly as…
  • Ejourneys, thanks for sharing your experience. I am also a maintainer, and also am being treated for breast cancer. I switched from A/C to Taxol about a month ago. I was told that most women gain 10 lbs while on chemo but it doesn't sound like that will happen to you, due to your careful logging and exercising. It hasn't…
  • My oncologist said my port should not restrict me from any exercise. When I had the surgery to implant it, the physician's assistant who did the surgery told me not to swim (no problem, I don't like swimming) and not to lift weights over my head. I ignored the second part and went with my oncologist's advice. I do overhead…
  • Lobular breast cancer, diagnosed April 24. I am having chemo first, then surgery and radiation. I started chemo in May and have been hospitalized 3 times for chemo-related side effects since then. Just before I was diagnosed, I had reached my goal weight, then have lost another 10-15 lbs I didn't really want to lose. I am…
  • Congratulations!!! Sounds like you lost the weight in a very healthy way.
  • I am not sure which is more impressive, your initial loss or the fact that you have kept it off for over 3 1/2 years! Thanks you for sharing your maintenance tips as well. You are inspiring!
