If you truly want something you have to be willing to do the work. Setting smaller goals helps make the larger ones more manageable, but if you allow yourself to make excuses for failing you're really just spinning your wheels and you'd have to question whether you really want it or not. Set goals. Work hard to achieve…

Didn't read the whole thread but .. losing weight and eating healthy are not the same. The latter may help you do the former (because of caloric density, feeling more energized thus able to exercise more, etc.) but they are different things. Burning more than you consume will cause weight loss, that's science.

To be able to run shirtless.

I originally got down to where I am now in the Spring of 2012. Since then it's just been discipline and accountability. I decided that I just didn't ever want to be like that again. I've allowed myself some "off" time here and there for vacations or holidays but then I just get back at it. Don't beat yourself up if you get…

Could also be the weather? I know when it's humid out I have a much harder time keeping my breath. If it's humid out where you are maybe try an earlier run? Air quality plays a big part.

You may be surprised that the majority of the people out there are probably thinking "good for her" or "go get it!" I've been running for a long time now and I'm always encouraged when I see runners out running (all shapes and speeds).

Wow, I'm 5'7' and I weigh 150. I'm a runner so I need to stay pretty light so I mix in strength training between runs. You don't need a lot of equipment for resistance stuff (pull up's, push ups, dips, etc. for upper body) .. and a lot of gym memberships are more reasonably priced now.
-
also depends on how tall you are .. 136 on a 4'9" guy will look remarkably different than someone 5'9" .. all other things being equal (no lifting, just cardio)
-
ahhh, I read reverse as the grip ... front, reverse, wide etc. you could try some back strengthening exercises .. rows and the like.
-
Do assisted pull ups (1 foot on a chair) to take away some of the weight. I did that for months until I was strong enough to do them without.

Congrats man, it's a great feeling I know. Keep moving forward!

I ran, I ran so far awayyyyy, and I raaaaan, I ran all night and day .... I set my MFP goals to lose a pound a week, did my best to meet my macros and still eat the food I enjoy, exercised and ate back those exercise cals (since MFP was already taking care of my deficit), logged everything, held myself accountable, didn't…

this is the best laugh I've had all day .. thank you. :drinker:

I burn about 115-120 calories a mile when I run ... 5'7 150 ... so a good 8 mile run is all I need.

I agree completely .. I think most things should be considered before they are accepted. This article is not a bash on rollers it's speaking to how they are used for ITB problems. And not having used one I don't have an opinion either way but I do find it interesting reading.
-
I've never tried one. I've been running for 3 years now and have just never felt the need. I do have several friends that love them however and most people I see chatting about them are of the same mind. I guess that's why I found this article interesting. A different point of view.
-
Right on. I wasn't proposing not to, just thought it was an interesting read. Do whatever works for you.

Road when it's safe and available, otherwise the sidewalk is fine. I prefer the former primarily because in my area there are cracks and large trees pushing parts of the sidewalk up, plus there is no "edge" to worry about in the road. I've rolled my ankle twice hitting those edges.

this is really it right here .. if you're doing things solely for the gratification of receiving compliments from every person you know .. well then you're doing it wrong, and you'll probably live a pretty miserable life.

Having a 7 and 10 year old myself I can say that had a similar situation occurred here it would have been dealt with immediately. I think the vast majority of parents out there would have done the same. From what you've said it sounds like this child has a lack of guidance. Knowing that I think I could let comments like…

Am I the only one who cracked up at this particular statement .. well done sir!
-
You wouldn't look the same but you'd be the same weight. Cals determine weight, macros/exercise determine composition.
-
TXL - I was thinking more Dennis Hopper-ish.

The latter would cause me to seriously need the former.
