  • Howdy! Glad you spoke up. Lurking is a good way to learn, but asking is better. Because of the way our weight room is set up at home, I end up having to do power cleans to move the bar around and reset things so I have incorporated it. Like the way it feels to be able to do that. My 19 year old son came down to…
  • @ ho - Your tat is beautiful, as is the expressed thought in it. I literally sucked in my breath when I scrolled down. (Also because of the location, I think. The foot would absolutely be out for me.) And welcome as well. Quick thanks for advice about push ups @Doozer and whoever else discussed it. I took them out of my…
  • Bahahahaha! Agreed, I must say, you DO NOT appear to be the weight you say. Def. look smaller. Very nice back and tat. I have a hummingbird, but there is no way I could ever have an easter egg -- I just don"t have what it takes!
  • Will it keep me from being FAMISHED and stuffing my face for the rest of the day?! I think I need this...
  • I noticed that while you mention vegetables, there is no fruit. The natural sugars would be good fuel replenishment. Maybe throw some in one of your shakes, or switch out some of the veg's at one meal.
  • Aside from the meat, you can pick high protein sides, too. Peas, spinach, broccoli, chichpeas and corn are all great choices. And potatoes? Super! nice and carb-y but also 5 grams of protein per lovely spud.
  • Welcome, CupCake! Awesome, more new folks! Hope you love this as much as the rest of us, I think you will. As for food / diary stuff, mine is open to all as a bad example of a vegetarian. Hey, peanutbutter and jelly is vegetarian! I eat a bunch of eggs and every now and then I throw a protein shake down. Lifting at home is…
  • I second what they said, just be patient. I have similar stats: Ht. 4' 10", 123 lbs., but age is 52, similar workout sched., I average betweet 1550 and 1600 cal. and I'm not gaining. I'm not losing either, but most likey because of A. not consistantly getting 3 sessions a week, B. sloppy logging, and C. possibly my age/…
  • *circuit training* Ha ha! Umm.. yes, much improved :smokin: Goals? What is this goals you speak of? Perhaps I should... How about just lifting 3 times a week! And hitting 50 on my OHP. Maybe if I move my push-ups around to another time, I can (thanks for info.).
  • TONS of common sense and wisdom here -- and yes, I think you have reasonable expectations. I am a living example of Tameko's age-related information for sure. I saw the down hill slide in my strength as I turned 49, 50, my joints (especially my shoulders & hips) hurt. Then I realized I was even becoming unsure on my feet!…
  • @ Jaylio I do them as a warm-up. I have had chronic shoulder issues so I do extra there. @ RD: why after and would you recommend a different warm-up? (always looking for advice)
  • ^^^This^^^ Huge "well-said" and second from me.
  • @ Fishlover, Welcome! I think you'll like it here, and absolutely sure you'll enjoy 5x5. @ Tree, thanks for posting the strength standards link. Honestly I'm so NOT goal oriented that the only ones I had to start have been get strong and get at least 3 workouts a week (the harder of the 2). @ Julie, just vent here when you…
  • Must watch video. I KNOW my form is all jacked up because rows hurt my low back and my left bicep. I did a video to check my form (almost broke my ipod dropping it!) and I'm nowhere near parallel. Boo. Hate rows.
  • Many thanks! I'll take a look at it. :flowerforyou:
  • Yoga for back pain?? Title PLEASE?? Or at least which exercises, so I can look them up?
  • Love tricep dips - but only because I CAN do them! It's like celebrating reaching a goal. I'm a recovered torn-and-fixed-rotator cuff girl. Horrid sleep here too. I wake up several times a night and curse any light I see.
  • Gray hair is boss! (changed my pic so you could see it) I love mine, but I know not everyone likes having it. I used to color to my original dark brown, then just couldn't do it any more. It took 9 months to grow out, like having a baby. The hair color didn't age me, but what has is losing weight! My face got wrinklier.…
  • I read the whole thread with interest because how much to eat has always been my quandary. 1. I am 4’10”, 123 pounds – the scale has not moved much in months 2. Doing 5x5 since last summer, shifted to more cardio/less lifting to prepare for a strenuous mission trip, now after holidays, back to 5x5 schedule with cardio in…
  • A stunning difference! When I read your post I saw that your weight loss EQUALS my total body weight! Dude, you've lost a whole person! Congratulations!!
  • This is completely true. I am 4'10", currently 123 and have weighed that for a few months now. My goal was about 118 or so (I'm 52, in menopause, and have no delusions about being 110#) BUT I have removed my ticker and reduced the frquency with which I weigh myself (Yay!) because: *I eat slightly less than I burn *I lift…
  • Voted too! Can't remember which video now, but I remember hearing the person instructing say looking slightly upward would help bring the CHEST up too. Just bringing my chest up has helped me immensly. I think of it like driving... where your eyes go, so goes your car!
  • Whoop! A banner day to report -- at least for me. Today was a B day, my fav. too (what is it about deadlifting?) Squat: 80 # OHP: 46 # (s t u c k) Deaelift: 100 #!! Whoop! Felt so good! @ fisherlassie:45# sounds like a welcome break, despite my excitement over progress. Just keep doing what you're doing. Can I just say I…
  • This happened to me. You have the same kind of stomach I do, and as you lose weight it will deflate and the "apron" of skin as it is called, will actually hang lower and flatten out. I see a huge change for 10 days. Keep up the good work!
  • Wowzers! Excellent blog post!! Most eye opening, thank you.
  • I finally feel like I can check in instead of just lurk. Even though I joined a while ago, I've had so many interruptions in my program that I feel like I haven't been able to make any headway. It's all good though, You are a wonderful bunch of ladies and I always come away a bit wiser or at least entertained.…
  • It all depends what you do with them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBHqQcXFmLA
  • Hmmm... Got me thinking. I wonder what Victoria's Secrets could do for the new - teeny-tiny - me. I was not very big before but now :frown: I've worn a sports bras for so long now (even under dresses!) I don't even know my cup size! The old ones are sort of like putting on wrinkly baggies! Time for some shoppin'!
  • alejandrajoy1, as a comparison I am 4'10" and work out 4 - 5 days a week also. I am eating about the same as you, however I am at the oposite end of the weight loss spectrum (123 pounds, only about 3 or 4 to go and can't seem to budge them!) AND I am 52 years old - older than you by the looks of it. :) From what you…
  • Calculators are ok, but I have found that I could use 4 different ones out there and get 4 different answers. The one posted did not go low enough for my height. Please first, relax! You won't go into "starvation mode" in a day, or on what you are eating by the sound of it. This is a sound, sensible article about…
