• Thanks all. I have pulled back my training this week and have been running slower, just for fun. I am hoping this will rekindle my love of running and reset my batteries. I have noticed that training isn't fun anymore, and if it isn't fun what's the point?
• I also vote for properly fitted shoes. For your knee pain, is it medial or lateral? I ice my knees prophylacticly after each run right after I roll myself out (foam roller is my fave!) because I had knee pain while training for my last half. One last thing, just from my experience, try to get outside and run during your…
• Thanks Carson!
•
"Hal Higdon has good plans for a number a race distances, but the downfall is that they are not very specific, and lacks a variety of workouts that you will really benefit from. "
This is one of my biggest peeves with his plans. I am doing one day of a short to medium run (3-7 miles), a day of…
• I've been running for about 16 months now, and have completed a half marathon so I am not a beginning runner per say, but I have never run over 15 miles, so I am venturing into new territory. I have had this bursitis since 2007. Its fairly mild now and hasn't flared up in quite a while. I've done everything: rest,…
• Higdon has a medium length run every Wednesday that is to be done at MP. For example this week's long run was 8 miles (week one), my MP run was 5 miles. These runs go up to 11 miles. We do shorter tempo runs or Yasso 800s on another running day, then one easy shorter run. Okay..so total miles run per week, and working on…
• Got it! Never thought of it in terms of total miles run per week!
• Welcome! I did my first half in April and am working on my first full in October! This is a great group with lots of active posters, you should get lots of tips :-)
• You and I have almost the same story (except I have no cute baby to show!). Congrats on all of your achievements! Let us know how the race goes! My first Marathon is in October. Just started the Hal Higdon Novice 2 this week.
• I usually need to eat 2.5 hours before a run and refuel every 45 min or so, but first thing in the am I don't seem to have this problem. And it helps your body learn to increase its glycogen stores and burn fat for fuel more efficiently which will help with running.
• I use my Camelbak on all my runs over 5 miles. I like to be able to hydrate without stopping and since I have very dry mouth from multiple allergy medications this helps me during my run. During my last half I saw several people running with them.
• I'm usually a road runner so this is my first time. Super excited!
• I'm doing the dash this year with some co-workers! See ya there!
• Nice work! Congrats on your first half! Heres to many more!
• Definitely race performance. Maybe I could wean the fueling. My next Half Marathon isn't until September and my full isn't until October so I have some time to play with things and improve.
• I would prefer not to refuel, however, it does seem to improve my performance. I do not run in the anaerobic range according to my heart rate, so I should not *need* the food but I am so refreshed afterwards.
• lol! I totally understand this! I used Galloway and I tolerated it :-) I am using Galloway again, but I have replaced the walk day with an easy run (4-5 mi) and have incorporated both hill sprints and sliders/speed drills to work on two weak areas of mine. I like sports beans for refueling. I eat two beans every 45 min. I…
• Well?? How did it go??
• I am a year and three months out, down 78 pounds (goal was 165, I weight 138-142 now). I ate 1200 kcal until I wanted to stop losing, then I upped my daily calories each week until I stopped losing. I eat about 1350-1400 kcal per day now, plus a portion of my exercise calories. If I am training for a distance race…
• Just signed up for the Columbus Ohio Half Marathon which is about a month after my Air Force Half. I may change to the full for the Columbus (my running friends are pushing for this) but we will see in the middle of August how I feel :-) You all are doing some great times! I am working on my speed more during this training…
• I second this! I wouldn't wear any other bra. They were great as a DD and still wonderful as a C.
• Hi all! I have been running since Feb of 2012. I ran my first half in April. I am signed up for my next half in the end of September (Air Force Marathon in Dayton, OH). I am contemplating either the half (or full because I am fully crazy) Columbus Marathon at the end of October depending on how I feel. I am using a combo…
in Hi! Comment by neurorat May 2013
• I actually prefer the treadmill. It forces me to continue my pace even when I am tired and it provides me with hills that just aren't here in Ohio. I have trained for all of my races on the treadmill because my schedule wouldn't permit me running outside safely and I have not had any issues. I *do* run on an incline of 1%…
• @Ingfrida86, I'm sorry, but your hair is better than mine. Its over.
