I would try different shoes, even though you were fitted for the ones you currently have, they might just not be right for you. And lace them differently.

Black shorts. Always wear black shorts.

I had a lot of trouble taking gels on the run so I switched to shot blocks and my stomach can handle them a lot better. I also skipped gatorade on my last marathon, just did the chews and water and it worked great for my stomach. Just try different products until you get something that works.

Why rush into something you're not adequately trained for and will likely be a bad experience? There are marathons all the time. 7 weeks is not enough time to build to the distance. It's not like doing 2x13.1's. It's so much harder than that. Train appropriately and have a good first marathon.

You'll get a lot more help, assistance and support if you call your race by it's correct name. A person cannot give you advice on how to run a successful first 5k if they think you are running a marathon. Apples and oranges. Download the C25K app. That's all you need. Good luck on your 5k.

This is wild, these are almost identical to my goals for next year. :D

I typically do not eat much white rice, bread, pasta etc or processed foods. However, that doesn't mean I am eating low carb. Fruits and vegetables are full of carbohydrates and if you are wanting to be a distance runner this is what you need. You do not need to fuel for runs up to a half marathon distance. I use gatorade…

I have a couple bondi band ponytail hats that I love. They have all different colors and designs too. Keep in mind though that I don't live in a very cold place. So I don't know how good they would be in real arctic air.

Well I know this will come as a surprise to most because I've hardly mentioned it but I'm running the NYC Marathon!!!!! :D
-
I'm counting on this being true. If I'm in as bad of shape after this race as I was after my first the whole touristing around NY thing is going to suck.
-
Here's a reply. Did it work?
-
This is the best. I hope to run a marathon this way someday.

I am no expert, obviously. But I think the chews and beans and stuff have sodium and electrolytes as well? Plus some have caffeine. If you are going for pure carbs and aren't worried about sodium loss I don't see why fruit chews wouldn't be a good option.

This! Dave, Carson, Mark, they're all over 40 have been running for years and are making PR's.
-
It sounds like you are working your way up to the 10k distance? I honestly would ditch the speed work and just focus on building your base mileage. New runners will see the biggest gains from just improving their endurance. Speed work at this point will not make much of a difference but will increase the likeliness of…

When I was between plans for my "off season" I cut my base down to 120 miles a month and capped my long run at 10. Ran 5 days and did 2 days of cross training.
-
After a really long run, like 3 hours, I'll have a recovery shake while I soak in the bath. After just a regular long run like 2 hours, I have coffee and eat a bunch of food. If I'm being good I'll foam roll later in the day.
-
Well, anything is possible. How much are you running now? It's generally advisable to have a base of at least 25 miles per week before starting a marathon training program.
-
I'm in. Going to be tapering so it'll be a little low compared to past months.
-
Hal Higdon has a 10k plan, it's not so much a "work your way up to a 10k" but more of a how to PR your 10k. You could give it a try. Now that you have a good running base just keep it up and keep building on it. Find another half to run and go for a PR.
-
I vote for Hal Higdon as well. He has great plans for all levels, I used him for my first half marathon and first marathon.
-
I am following a Pfitzinger plan and there is a mid week medium long run. It tops out at 13. Yes, I do it every week. During taper it looks like it goes down to 8. I am also 6 weeks out from my marathon. :)
-
I agree with this too. You have to have a goal time in mind to plan for pacing. However, I think first time (or anytime) marathoners shouldn't beat themselves up if they don't make that goal. There are so many variables that go into running a marathon that you can't plan or account for. So in that sense the goal should be…

I think your 4 hour goal is very realistic. I would plug your goal time into a negative split calculator and then stick to the plan. Resist the urge to go faster than your goal time for the first 20 miles. If you hit mile 21 feeling great then that's the time to kick it up. I ran my first marathon in 4:05. My half PR…

Before you swear off running forever please go outside. I would have given up a long time ago too if I was running in circles in a gym. That sounds like hell.
-
350 to 400. I keep track but I can also tell because I get achy knees and feet. Also the tread will be pretty much completely worn down to smooth. I wear Nikes, I don't think they're the most high end of running shoes so maybe that's why they don't hold up as well.

I am a stay at home mom, I have four kids under 9, 2 of which are still home full time. I have no interest in doing an ultra but I do want to do an Ironman so that takes the same level of commitment if not more. My husband also is a marathon runner. So basically 7 days a week one of us is up at 4 am to get a run in. We…

I agree with the others. Sub 3 is dreaming right now. Give a few years of hard work and you never know but in a year, no way. For comparison my PR's are faster than yours at every distance and I'm training my *kitten* off right now to try and run a 3:45 full. For another comparison my husband who is only a couple years…

Ok, I actually think your chances of running 3 minutes faster than your best time are good. I ran my first 5k race in 25:31 and I had never run under 28 minutes before that. Race day adrenaline can do amazing things. However, I really would not have the expectation of placing in AG with that time. There are likely to be…

Well if that's the case then just make the most of it. Do your long runs as you have listed, don't skip any, and just try to have fun at the race. I wish you luck!!!
