5k Results Thread?
How about a spot to put our race results? Can I go first? 22:48 3rd overall out of 750 women. Pretty pleased with that result as it was A. A night race B. 77 Degrees C. 80% humidity. This isn't technically a PR (or maybe it is) since my last 5k race measured short and there was some operator error on my garmin so I don't…

Last Race of the Season
Here's the blog recap of my last race of 2014, which is my first year doing triathlon. Have a read if you're into that sort of thing. :)http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/ZenInTexas/view/oktoberfest-triathlon-702278

The New Yorker-Marathon Man
Fascinating article. How do you think he did it? I know some of us have encountered cheaters, or people we have suspected of cheating in races. It's a long read, grab a cup of coffee. http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2012/08/06/marathon-man

Stairs As Hill Work
So I live in the flattest city in America and haven't really ever managed to do hill work in my training. There is a parking garage however the only time to run it right now is early in the morning (because of the heat) and that's not really the time I want to be alone in an abandoned parking garage. So what about climbing…

How Many Calories do you burn??
I was just reading through the thread in the general forums about 1000+ calorie burns. I know I have to run very far to burn 1000 and bike even longer. So for the sake of comparison, and just for kicks, how far do you have to run to burn 1000 calories? What's your gender, age and weight? And can someone explain to me why a…

How to taper for an Olympic Tri?
I didn't taper at all for the sprint tri I did but I figure some tapering is needed for an Olympic? I am not following a training plan right now, just making up my plan as I go along so any advice appreciated. Race is May 4th.

What kind of bike should I get?
Here is my situation. I am currently borrowing a friends bike. It's a nice road bike. I am doing one sprint and 2 olympics this year and I think I can use her bike for them all. But I do eventually need to get my own bike. My long term plan is to do a 70.3 next spring and a 140.6 the year after that. I will be doing pretty…

Your number one piece of Marathon advice
I'm doing my first marathon in 2 weeks. I came off my last long training run feeling confident about going into the race but now my nerves are getting the best of me and I'm starting to psych myself out. So I want to really focus on getting my mental game on and my head straight. If you are a marathon veteran what's the…

tri shoes?
So I googled this and didn't really get a satisfactory answer other than that they have elastic laces to get on and off easier, but what is the purpose of tri shoes? Why not just wear regular running shoes? And the same for tri bike shoes, why not just wear regular bike shoes?

My First Marathon-Reflections
TL;DR I ran the perfect marathon. So here goes my marathon report. Apologies in advance if it gets wordy. First of all we stayed downtown, which was the best idea ever. We were 2 blocks from the finish line. I slept terribly but not having to worry about finding parking and all that was awesome. The morning started off…

Training plans?
I am looking to do my first triathlon this spring and would like a training plan to follow. I'm currently a distance runner and I want to keep up my running base while adding in the swim and bike. I've looked at the ones on beginner triathlete and they don't really seem to be quite what I'm looking for. Anyone have…

How do your paces compare?
Just curious how does your easy run pace compare to your marathon pace? How many minutes difference? And how does your HM pace compare to MP?

Ultra Marathoners?
Just curious if anyone on this board has done any extreme races? I was reading about 100 mile races and my thought was "why?" Would love to hear about someone's personal experience with one!

Longest Run During Marathon Training
My training plan calls for three 20 mile runs. I was thinking of doing 22 on the middle one purely for the psychological benefits. The training gurus say there is no physical benefit to doing a long run over 20 but I was thinking if I go into the race knowing it's only 4 miles over what I've conquered before it will be…

Mental Toughness?
This is something I have been giving a lot of thought to lately. About having the mental toughness to go the distance in the marathon and also how mental fortitude comes into play during racing shorter distances. I have definitely experienced both ends of the spectrum, I have been in races and found myself able to push…

When to do recovery pace runs?
In the past I have only done the really slow recovery pace runs after races, when my legs are super sore. I don't get that sore or tired in regular training. I just do the majority of my running at easy pace. Now that I'm heading into marathon training though I am wondering if I should do one run a week at that pace? My…

So I have this weird pain...
I've tried Dr. Google and I can't seem to find anything to relate to what I'm experiencing. I've had this weird pain on and off for a few months now. Imagine you are standing up with your hands on your hips, it hurts right where your thumb would sit on your waist. The pain is in the fleshy part in between the top of my hip…

What makes someone a fast/good runner?
What makes someone good at running? Why are some people capable of 2 or 3 hour marathons and others, even if they train for years wouldn't be able to do it? Is it genetics? Anyone have any insight into this?

Unspoken Rules Of Running
I was thinking about this the other morning when I was running and yet another duo of old women wouldn't move over and share the sidewalk. What would you add to the list? http://www.hmcpresscenter.com/featured/the-unspoken-rules-of-running/

Training and Racing Pacing strategy
I am going to be starting training soon for a full marathon, my first. During that training period I will also be running a half and a 25k. My goal pace for the marathon is 10 minute mile. (Yes, slow, I know) However my goal pace for the half is a 9:30 or better. During training my plan calls for runs to be done at "Race…

What do you do with your old running shoes?
I'm rapidly accumulating a pile of shoes that are no longer good for running but aren't garbage either, I would feel guilty throwing them out. Give them to charity? What do you do?

Bike Basics
I am hoping to do a triathlon next year. I currently do not own a bike but it looks like I might be getting one in the next couple months. I know NOTHING about bikes. (Other than how to ride one) What do I need to know before purchasing? Give me the basics. I will hopefully be using it for both triathlons and longer road…

Let's Talk About Shoes
So as a newish runner this is something else that I really don't know much about. I got fitted for shoes last year and I have stuck with the exact same ones because they work so well for me, however they have been discontinued and the new updated version of them suck. (I'm wearing Asics GT-2170's) So I'm going to be on the…

Marathon this Winter??
Hey everyone, I'm going to be running my first full this January, the Houston Marathon on Jan 19th. And since I don't have any real life running buddies to train with (other than my husband) I would love to have a virtual running club to share training tips with, and commiserate with and just be able to learn from. So if…
