  • I love reading all your suggestions, serious or not (I'm looking at you TDSeest :-). Good luck, Snow!
  • We moved from the plains of ND to the rolling hills of WI a couple of years ago, and I'll tell you what, I don't miss the 30 mph winds at all! Or the dust in my eyes, ears and teeth. Well, maybe I do miss it a little bit. But at 5'10', 175 lbs, I'm not in danger of being blown over, either.
in Wind sucks! Comment by ksavvy March 2013
  • Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites by Skrillex. This version is a little different from the one I use in PRM (cycling class), but when I first received the music from the company that licenses my program, I thought there was no way I would ever be able to teach it! It is now one of my absolute favorites to ride to!…
  • My cold weather cycling gear (gloves, arm warmers, no-chamois insulate tights, base layer t-neck, wind jacket) works really well for winter running. We'll see what I think when I get back today. It's windy here in SE WI today!!
  • My FT4 is about 5 years old, and still going strong. I can't imagine my fitness routine without it! If Polar has kept the quality standards up, yours should keep on ticking well into the future! Nice review, by the way.
  • I teach a high intensity, interval style cycling class that combines those two types of workouts. Together, they provide and excellent calorie burn, muscle conditioning and a tremendously effective cardio workout. I recommend talking to a cycling instructor in a gym, even if you don't have a member ship (sneak in on promo…
  • Please, please, please can I steal and keep copies in my gym bag, fridge door, and my grocer's freezer case??
  • I agree with alexpapa. I have that problem, too, when I don't wear cycling shoes. First of all, they provide the stability necessary for a push/pull action, which alleviates pressure on the ball of the foot in the 'upward' phase of the pedal stroke. Secondly, they provide a stable, inflexible platform for the foot, with…
  • 900 calories in 30 minutes is pretty high. The machine is probably closer to accurate, but a HRM or similar device is really the only way to go. Individual results vary far to widely for a machine or a website to even remotely accurately report a calorie burn. Regardless, you were there, on that bike, instead of your…
  • It's awesome to hear a little Les Mills love! I'm a huge fan, and am heading to an RPM AIM in 10 days. Truly a fabulous organization, and the trainings have been life changing. I would shrivel up and die if I lost all my programs!
  • I'm very curious to hear more about how the home versions of these programs work for everybody. I've been taking Pump, Combat, and other Les Mills classes (and I teach the cycling program, RPM) for years, and I love them all! Good luck, everybody :-)
  • Yay, RPM!! I love to hear that others get it :-)
  • I'll jump on this bandwagon! 1-2-12 Starting weight (thankyouverymuch, holiday goodies!) - 173
  • My Gold's Gym is as low as $19.99/mo for all classes, pool, hot tub, sauna, all cardio equipment and weights. Love Les Mills! I joined my gym specifically because they carry all but BodyJam, and now I teach RPM!
  • I teach a challenging 60 minute cycling class, and burn avg 11 calories/minute. I don't burn quite as much when I'm not talking/teaching. HRM is definitely the way to go, when you are ready for it.
  • Not much?!? Are you kidding? That's FANTASTIC!!
  • I agree. One foot in front of the other. You can do this!
  • Absolutely correct! And they do make your yoga pants look much better. Ipod holder....hahahaha!
  • I was just brainstorming the other day as to how to take care of the same problem...Redneck solutions rock! I just wish I had a fisherman in the house.
  • You look AMAZING! Congratulations on meeting the halfway point, and good luck on the rest of the journey. I look forward to watching you as you get closer and closer.
  • The best way, in my experience, to accurately log calories is to wear a heart rate monitor while exercising. There are so many options available, at many price points. Then, you can create your own exercises and log the calories you actually burned, instead of a number that may or may not reflect your actual burn. Kelly
  • Please do keep in mind that you cannot judge a book by its cover. You may be much stronger on the inside than you realize, and by taking on some resistance training, you will only become stronger and healthier. Group Exercise is for EVERYONE!
  • BodyPump is an excellent way for a person to enter the group exercise arena. Be sure to let the instructor know you are new, and he or she can guide you through weight selections. Form is key for new Pumpers, so don't focus on weights. Also, this is your workout, not your friend's or your neighbor's. Do what works for you,…
  • I get almost all my stuff at JC Penney. They have a line called Xersion that covers everything form yoga to running to general workout gear. And the styles and colors change on a regular basis. It is almost always on sale, too.
  • Bicep curls, tricep kick-backs, side and forward raises for deltoids. Good luck!
  • Way to go, Amy! That is awesome :-D
  • Me too! Feel free to add me.
  • Being a fitness instructor is about sharing your passion for what you do, not about how you look. Also, imagine how inspiring it will be for others to see you following your passion, and getting healthier and fitter in the process. Totally go for it! (I took the leap to cycling instructor 3 weeks ago...) Good Luck!
  • Don't let some cranky, possessive old lady scare you away. I am very attached to "my spot," but hey, if somebody gets there first, it isn't mine, is it? Be brave, head to the front of the class, and make friends with the instructor. Good luck!
  • I'm one of those crazy, silent (I think) singing people, too. I don't see where German practice would be any different :-)
