  • After weighing about 110 lbs my whole life (29 years old now), I decided enough was enough. I went on a 4500-5000 calorie diet for almost a month, doing mostly carbs with a some fat and protein as well. I gained about 35 lbs in 1 month!! However that wasn't the proper solution since it went mostly to my stomach. So I ate…
  • I've seen people use Fitocracy to track workouts. I tried MFP briefly and it needs a huge overhaul, so I won't use it. For now, pen and paper for me. It's a bit tacky, but I put down the 4-6 exercises on a 4 x 4 in. paper and pocket it along with a pen.
  • Well, usually I drink 2 cups of whole milk each meal that I consume at home, that's like 300 calories right there. Then the other 200 would be a easy to achieve. Blending stuff is like cheating because you can put in tasty stuff and horrible (but healthy) tasting stuff and have a quick meal that you can drink really quick.…
  • Yea, sucks losing weight just by sleeping, yet I can be on my feet all day lifting heavy objects at work, come home and not lose a single pound, even when I don't eat during that time. I guess the body burns fat/energy to heal itself when sleeping or something. I've actually gained about 30 pounds since I first came here a…
  • Nice quads, but what about chest and stomach? How well did you do with those?
  • Muscle and Strength: http://www.muscleandstrength.com/workouts/women.html has lots of different workout routines and videos on how to various exercises properly.
  • Here's a good list of exercises and videos for you to try out: http://www.muscleandstrength.com/exercises/abs.html Remember that a lot of exercises it's best to do slow reps. If you do it fast, you'll end up using momentum to do whatever your doing instead of the actual muscles you are trying to strengthen.
  • Idiot "bros" spitting in the drinking fountain.
  • I never heard of one gender only gyms, wtf. I don't think you have anything to worry about, assuming you go to a gym in a nice part of town. You will probably witness some idiot guys now and then, but when don't you in any other public place?
  • Only way to have firm thighs without being really skinny is to turn that thigh fat into muscle. Possibly try lunges? http://www.muscleandstrength.com/exercises/dumbbell-lunge.html http://www.muscleandstrength.com/exercises/bodyweight-side-lunge.html

  • Hopefully your metabolism hasn't been cursed with what I have. I'm having to annihilate my 2500 calorie goal by at least 2000 to see any weight gain (sucks being a hard gainer). However you are trying to shed pounds, so I guess enjoy it now until your reach goal weight.
  • I have no problem if a gym does this, obviously they won't get my money since I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum. Creating a community with people aiming for the same goal can be a good thing.
  • How often do you do ab exercises? As a skinny dude that never had much fat nor ever worked out, I had a tad more defining ab muscles. So I guess keep trying to lose that fat around your stomach. Looks like you should do a lot of weight lifting so you can train those fats to go somewhere besides your stomach.
  • I do :/ Then again I intentionally do it, because I'm desperately trying to gain weight. It's freaking hard to get that much food in, how someone can casually do it is mind boggling. To the OP. I say decrease calories to 3000 a day AND do some sort of cardio every day.
  • I have that unflattering temporary stomach bloat as well. It's probably a combination of full stomach plus gas plus crappy posture.
  • Whole Milk! It's the only thing I can consume on a regular basis while sick, depressed, angry, full, hungry, lazy, or bored.
  • I eat Carl's Jr, Subway, grocery store deli tenders and potato wedges. Sometimes I'll just eat crackers or chips if I'm sick of the fast food type stuff. Unfortunately all the good healthy stuff takes time to prepare and certain appliances to make, which is not possible for me at work. I'm trying to do better, but all the…
  • You probably should only drink a protein shake right after a workout since the protein will help your body heal and grow. Also be weary of cheap protein powders because a lot of companies don't put exactly what they list on their products. Probably the best company out there is Optimum Nutrition.
  • Nice, I like your second link showing you going from a frown to a smile.
  • I blend them in my smoothies. I use a Vitamix blender (high quality) and blend oats, whole milk, oranges, yogurt, and ice cubes. Of course that is a more of a bulking smoothie so you many want to use a different combination of foods. However blending them is the best way I found to eat them.

  • I go to a small 24 hour gym. It's annoying when someone keeps bouncing back and forth between strength building machines. There's only one of each kind and for a person to take up like 3 different ones is kind of irritating.
  • Whole Milk!! Potatoes Oranges Grapes Kraft Mac & Cheese Oats Margarine sticks Eggs Store brand yogurt (fruit blended) These items alone can give me close to 4000 calories a day that I strive for.
  • It takes minutes for food start getting warm and hot. I haven't tried it yet, but the Vitamix company encourages making soups with the Vitamix. I always add some ice cubes to my blends to keep it real cold. It only takes like 30 seconds max to make a real good smoothie. You can always put frozen food in the blender too to…
  • How about an MFP friend who has to gain weight? Good luck in your goals.
  • Keep eating at 1200 calories, preferably healthy calories. If you do gain weight, exercise more cardio AND strength training. Keep doing this until you at least maintain weight so you can get out of starvation mode. If anything, I think you should eat more than 1200 calories and hit the gym a lot. Lot of successful weight…
  • I had to look up Psoriasis to see what it is, doesn't seem like being slender would help treat the symptoms. However you shouldn't be discouraged from hopping on that treadmill. Being at a healthy weight is better than being over weight which is a stepping stone from becoming obese which will make your life worse.
  • *High five* to weight gainers. I've been waging war on my metabolism for about 3 weeks now. I'm aiming for a minimum of 4500 cals every day. I lift weight every other day to help promote muscle weight so I won't be out of shape. I'm trying to hit 135 lbs by beginning July. 170lbs or so in a year. What are your goals, OP?
  • Fruit smoothies. Instead of fruits, water, and ice for a lame less than 400 calories, I bulk it up. I use milk instead of water, add oats, add fruit, add 2 high carb yogurts, and then the ice. Over 1000 calories for me before I go to bed every night.
  • That sounds frightening. I'd schedule an appointment with your general practitioner and get some vitals and blood tests done. When's the last time you've done this?
