  • Hi, I am back on MFP after a spell of being away. I am also looking for a group to share diaries, offer support etc. I am 57 think I am through menopause now, but still have some of the symptoms. Getting on HRT patches was the best thing I have ever done! I lost a significant amount of weight through the pandemic but the…
  • I use strong and I like it
  • I was thinking about doing this and signed up to a free trial on simple. Which is rubbish. I was also concerned about eating late in the morning because we all know that our metabolism doesn’t kick in until we’ve started eating. Also I feel really sick if I don’t eat in the morning
  • Thanks for your comprehensive reply. I’ve had a bit of a motivation meltdown in the last couple of weeks however I am back on it as of yesterday in answer to some of your questions. Rowing is consistent. I have two gym training routines so I do mix up the exercises. Now the nice weather is here I’m going to try and add a…
  • I’ve made my diary open to public. I’ll try to log food so any advice welcome
  • Thanks for your comments. For those that wanted more details. I am 5’4”. 185lbs. For clarity. The 3 years I spoke of with weight loss wasn’t consistent there were periods of maintenance as well. My gym workouts vary but tend to be mainly. Lunges, squats, chest press 6kg dumbbells , chest fly 6kg, bicep curls 5kg, tricep…
  • I have recently started going to the gym. I went twice this week, monday (I could feel I had worked the muscles but they were not really sore), wednesday, after that session which included triceps with a 5kg weight my triceps are in agony and it is day 3. I suggested to my sister (who I am going with) that maybe the weight…
  • My Fitbit Charge picks up my steps even if I am holding onto a trolley - I don't know why it doesn't work for others
  • I suffer with IBS. Your symptoms are not typical of IBS. What I will say regarding anything to do with the guy. The best thing to do is just eat clean, natural food from scratch. Ditch the processed foods. They are full of sugar as well. I’m reading the g-plan diet book and it makes a lot of sense. I gave up processed…
  • I suffer with IBS so I am going to give it a go soon
  • Sounds disgusting lol. Must be us brits that only have it sweet!
  • I used to be a gymnast, and whether or not it is a good idea but the way I did the splits was to get into the split position as far down as you can go and I had someone gently bouncing me on my shoulders, eventually you will be supple enough to get all the way down. Obviously warm up with stretches first
  • I need to get back on track too. Lost 30lbs and weighed in this morning and have put 11lb back on
  • I have created a 6 month plan and put against it how much I want to lose, which is 1lb a week and against the days I think I can sustain I have added when I am going to go out on my bike, when I am going to commit to going line dancing. I used to be able to do 23k on my bike on a weekend, today I only managed 20 minutes…
  • This sounds like a good idea, I think I will try doing it. Starting today!!
  • I have done all this. Have been doing it for years, but thank you anyway. As I said in my posts, I know what to do it is just finding the motivation to do it. But thank you for taking the time to reply. :)
  • I guess I want to lose at least a stone in 6 months - I think that is reasonable. 5lb a month roughly. I know what I need to do, it's just finding the motivation. I start again every day at the moment - I have now put on half a stone. I need to stop drinking (alcohol) stop snacking, stop eating cake when I got to my mother…
  • You are a stone under the top end of your healthy weight for your age, height - why would you go so drastic to put your body in ketosis to lose what must only be a few pounds?? Are you sure you need to lose weight, have you considered just toning up (which in fact might make you heavier). I have done a diet which put me in…
  • here is the link - http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/grilled-honey-lime-chicken-with-cowboy-caviar/
  • I have recently found two dishes I like in an attempt to eat less at lunch times. Leaf salad with cooked beetroot and feta cheese (light) lovely! a recipe that is on the MFP blog - cowboy caviar. I am amazed that I am satisfied, but I am. I recently decided to try and only eat complex carbs once a day but that is because I…
  • Hi Jolive7 - I wonder if you wouldn't mind giving me some advice too. I am a 50 year old woman who needs to lose weight. I have lost 2 stone but have maintained for the last year hence now looking at building some muscle tone to help with the weight loss. I emphasise muscle tone at this point because about 4 years ago I…
  • I appreciate the link. However, the post refers me to sources of information for body building, free weight bulking out programmes. I don't want to bulk, I want to tone. Also, I have problems with my knees so cannot squat with free weights. I am using lifting machines rather than free weights, mainly for the safety aspect…
  • I am starting to do some weight training in the gym so have been told to eat more protein but I know from previous diets that I have done with low or no carbs I find myself lacking in energy. What do you all class as low carbs
  • The problem is that you are right CI/CO but unfortunately we live in a world where everything has been supersized! A McDonalds Meal, or KFC for that matter comes in at a lot of calories. The recommended daily average calorie intake for men is 2,500, and for women it's 2,000. This means if I waltz into a McD's for lunch and…
  • You are kidding - sugar is a killer
  • Well just to update anyone who is interested. I joined a gym. I am focusing mainly on strength training. Using a bit of intuition as to what weight to lift, listening to my body really. Using the machines rather than free weights. At first I was doing upper body one day and lower body the next day, depending upon the…
  • I just looked at your diary. Firstly, glad to see you have increased your calorie allowance to 1500 - 1200 calories is the absolute minimum recommended and certainly not for someone who is actively running around after kids! Secondly, I agree a burger (with mozzarella in it) high in calories and then to add a whole avocado…
  • I have been "dieting" for around 25 years now. I have tried several diets - all have failed. In the last 2 years I have lost 2 stone and kept it off for the last year now by NOT being "on a diet". I say I am not on a diet, what I am doing is eating healthily. I have changed my lifestyle to a more healthy one. This way, if…
  • I have always been obsessed with eating all my calorie allowance whether on this or when I was at Slimming World and also eating back my exercise calories. Recently I watched a TED Talk by Sandra Aamodt - called why dieting doesn't work - http://www.ted.com/talks/sandra_aamodt_why_dieting_doesn_t_usually_work. I decided to…
  • In the past I have put on weight when I have returned to my old eating habits essentially. I have been "dieting" for the last 2 years this time. However, I like to think that I am not "dieting" I have changed my lifestyle to eating healthy and being more aware of what calories I am consuming. Over the first year I pretty…
