  • I am a 38 year old married mother of two who works full time. I was diagnosed with Diabetes/ High Cholesterol and High Blood pressure almost 2 years ago. I have lost 45 pounds and have my blood pressure under control. I currently take 2 medications for the Diabetes but am very close to being able to take away one. The…
  • Hi there, I was diagnosed last fall and am still working on getting it under control one day at a time! If you are looking for a friend to chat with, feel free to send me a friend invite.
  • I found out 6 months ago that I have type 2, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. It's been overwhelming and very hard at times but I am always moving in the right direction. If you are looking to add any friends for support, motivation, or just to rant and rave, feel free to add me !!
  • For me, exercise sucks. I know some people love it but I am not one of them. My goal for this week is to do 15 minutes of exercise each day. Doesn't sound like much but for me, it is huge! I plan to up it to 20 minutes in two weeks. We'll see how it goes! I am normally an all or nothing sort of person (if I can't do an…
  • The problem is a lot of people think that because fruit is healthy, they can eat as much of it as they want (I know I used to!!). As everyone mentioned above, it does still come down to moderation and eating your calories at a deficit.
  • Why not try setting non scale related goals for a while? That's what worked for me. I found if I tried to do it all at once, it was simply to overwhelming. Each week, I would set a new goal (while sticking with the previous goals I set) by the time I got through 5 or 6 goals, I had dropped 10 pounds and hadn't even been…
  • I am not borderline but was diagnosed with type 2 4 months ago. I am on medication and also making huge changes to my eating to get my sugars in check. It can be done!
  • Thank you for taking the time to explain this. It makes sense now. I find all of this so overwhelming right now that any little clarification makes it a little bit easier :)
  • When I saw a nutritionist, she said that you should eat when you first get up so that it breaks the fasting cycle that your body is in. It gets your metabolism and everything moving again. That being said, I saw the nutritionist because I am a new diabetic so maybe that doesn't apply to everyone. It may just have to do…
  • I definitely need to invest in a good set of kitchen knives. In the past, it wasn't something I thought was worth the extra money however, now that we are doing alot more prep in the kitchen, I can see why they would be !!
  • Thank you so much for all of the great ideas! I will definitely look into them :) Love the idea of a crockpot! It would be great to have the meal ready when we get home.
  • Very inspiring! I was diagnosed 3 months ago and am currently on 4 pills a day. I am working towards at least reducing that if not eliminating. Glad to hear it can be done!
  • I was diagnosed 3 months ago with type 2. I test my blood each day. My doctor eventually wants my numbers to be between 4-6. How come all of your numbers are in the 100's? Is it something different that you guys test? Sorry that probably seems like a stupid question! This is all very new and confusing to me!
  • I weigh each morning when I get up, before getting in the shower. I only do this right now to get a better sense of what different foods do to my body (I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol) so I can learn to make better choices from the info. As for actually logging my…
  • Wow! Good for you :) That is a fantastic commitment. You must feel much healthier!
  • I didn't notice until around 35 pounds. It was very frustrating! Keep at it though, it will happen :)
  • I was diagnosed with type 2 about 3 months ago now. Unfortunately I am currently on 4 pills a day. My doctor is optimistic though that once the numbers get under control that diet and exercise will play a big part in being able to cut back on the medication that I am taking. That is very important to me as I do not want to…
  • The nutritionist that I saw had lots of good tips on what foods to pair together to keep sugars from spiking. Lots of good information as well on times of the day to eat and how often. The importance of not skipping meals.. Yes, everyones body is different and no meal plan is going to work exactly the same. That doesn't…
  • Great first step! I just found out I was diabetic about 6 weeks ago. It's very overwhelming for sure. There are many resources though that will help you along the way. Feel free to add me if you are looking for some support and motivation!
  • For me, it is definitely a lifestyle change. I was diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol this year at 37. I have a husband and two young kids that I want to be around for MANY more years to enjoy :)
  • I am diabetic as well and had my first apt with the nutritionist last week. She was fine with me eating some carbs and said there is no reason to cut them out of my daily diet. I have to keep my starch/carb portion to nothing more than a 1/4 of my plate though and I can't use instants (IE - minute rice causes my blood…
  • I like to look at the menu online before I go out and choose what I am getting. If I already know what I am going to order before hand, I tend to stick to my good choice. If I show up hungry and not knowing what I'm getting, I tend to make a bad choice!
  • As everyone mentioned, the calorie deficit is the first thing to work on. As someone who also has anxiety (and depression) working out does help. I bought a Weight Watcher walk at home DVD and love it !
  • For me, I find that I don't want to waste any of my calories, sugars, fats.. on drinks so I stick to plain water. This journey is going to be different for everyone of us. It's a matter of tweaking all the information you will get and figuring out what will work best for you :)
  • I agree. If it isn't something you do all the time and you have the room for it, ENJOY !!
  • Thanks everyone! One step at a time and I will get there :) It's great to have others to talk with!
  • Thanks everyone! I will be going to a Diabetic clinic the next time there is a session. I am sure that will help alot. Right now, I guess I am still just a bit shocked :(
  • Thank you Calliope for the links! I will read those tonight!
  • Thanks everyone! It's nice to hear others had the same struggle. I thought it was only me!
  • Thank you! I have been looking over the various boards to find good, filling snack and meal options. Definitely making a trip to the grocery store tomorrow!
