Over-priced and over-hyped. For healthy snacks I can find more bang for my buck at my local grocer.

Age 51 female here. #1 thing for me was a good digital kitchen scale. I weighed everything that went into my mouth as I had no concept of what a proper portion size was. It was eye opening. I've now maintained for a year, still use the scale daily.

That I can pull my jeans from the washer and toss them in the dryer on high. I don't care if they shrink, they'll still fit!

Nope, I don't trust MFPs burn numbers they're always on the high side. I use an online treadmill calculator and another calories burned one for other cardio activities where it allows me to enter my gender, height, weight, minutes exercised, and age. Even then I low ball the calories burned number I enter on MFP just to be…

Logging keeps me honest and focused on maintaining. I've maintained now for 10 months staying within 5 pounds either way of my goal weight of 150. I don't find the logging food to be that arduous, it's become a habit after almost 2 years of doing so. There may come a time when I stop logging, but for now it's a good habit…

As a fellow 5' 10" female I noticed that when I started on MFP and was down to around 1500 calories a day the frequency of BMs dropped off. And why wouldn't it considering I'd been easily consuming double that amount of calories per day for years before. When I cut my food intake by more than half of course my "output"…

You can do it. I started my weight loss trip at age 49 and when my 50th came around 9 months later I had reached my goal weight (75 pounds lost) and most importantly I've maintained for the past 10 months.

2 more months and I'll be eligible to register. It will be (another) good reason to stay on target with my maintenance.

In Dec 2003 we bought a Smooth treadmill. Ten years on and it's still going strong. It's a workhorse, never any issues. I ordered a heavy duty one with an extended running surface since I'm tall. Our model is non-folding and it's a beast, but I like how heavy duty it it. Look at http://www.smoothfitness.com/

My main goal each day is to MOVE. Coming home from work and heading straight for the couch is not allowed, no matter how crap the day was at work. The consistency in getting some form of movement in every day has been key to my mindset about making this weight loss last. No backsliding allowed!

If you can get it, 'The Greek Gods' brand is awesome.

Kashi Cinnamon Harvest cereal. I measure it out into small Rubbermaid containers. 55 grams=180 calories. Nice and filling with enough sweetness to make me feel like it was a treat (and a snack).

All mixed together: Greek Gods nonfat plain yogurt /cottage cheese / Nature's Path smart bran cereal.

2.4 pound gain, went from 147.2 up to 149.6. TBH I was bracing for a bigger gain than that. My guess is tomorrow's weigh in will show a drop of at least a pound so I'm not stressed over it.

What has MFP taught you: That there is a ton of misinformation on the MFP boards about nutrition and exercise. That there are people willing to try the most bizarre diets in an effort to "jump start" their weight loss. That there are a lot of posters who spend way too much time posting on the repetitive threads in the…

I'm an adoptee (from back in the dark ages of closed adoptions) and am forever grateful to my bio mother for realizing she couldn't properly raise me. I'm also grateful to my mom and dad for taking the chance on little six month old me. Without a doubt my life turned out way better than if I'd stayed with my birth family.…

Love my cottage cheese, would happily eat it all day long. First choice is mixing it 50/50 with Greek Gods plain nonfat yogurt and slightly thawed organic frozen raspberries (or blueberries). Yum times ten.

Put it behind you, it's in the past and nothing you can do about it now. From here on out, accept that there will be both good days and bad ones. Make it your goal to aim for having way more good days than bad and you'll end up ahead of the game.

I never announced my attempt to lose weight to anyone. I told my husband not to bring me any more apple fritters home and he stopped. Obviously after about 20 pounds lost people started to notice but when asked I just tell them I'm eating healthier (which is true). OP your wife sounds like a not very supportive spouse. I…

My diary is always open and I'm on 1650 calories. Have been in that ballpark calorie number for months so feel free to look at mine. I'm a pescetarian so no beef, chicken, lamb or similar, only seafood as my meat source. Also I get a majority of my calories from what I snack on constantly during the day, so my way of…

I stay motivated by setting small, incremental goals and by realizing this is a long process. There is no secret, no crash diet that works long term, no magic pill or supplement, no way to jump start the weight loss, and most important, there is no excuse to not move more. Being tired is NOT a valid excuse, even a 20…

7 months maintaining as of now and I really don't see logging everyday as that big of a deal. It seems I'm always near a computer to do so, and since I tend to eat the same sorts of food over a weekly basis the logging goes pretty quick. I prefer to use my computer time logging calories as opposed to trawling Facebook.…
