  • This! It's not anything specific to any food, it's just learning tricks to work around my own weaknesses.
  • I'm a fan of seitan (veggie meat made with gluten) - low fat, high protein. Assuming you don't have celiac disease of course.
  • My favorite - http://www.theppk.com/2009/10/tof-u-and-tof-me-scrambled-tofu-revisited/ If you don't have nutritional yeast just leave it out, though it does add a nice taste IMO.
  • I think it's definitely worth mentioning, you never know. Hopefully it's not related. I don't have children but I think in some cases it can run in families.
  • Do you live near a Trader Joe's? I believe they have a coconut coffee creamer. I've never tried it (not a fan of coconut) so I don't know how good it is.
  • Mine started after I lost most of the weight as well. I do much better when I avoid all coffee, chocolate and tea. My doc wants me to do an endoscopy before I go on long term meds but I'm resisting it, or at least trying to put it off to next year and do it when I'm due for a colonoscopy anyway. I did not have any water…
  • I don't want to push any house rivalries but... Hufflepuff pride! ;)
  • I'm a big fan of their frozen food, if you're on vacation maybe that's not an option. They have frozen fava beans, can't find those anywhere else. I also like the snack foods - crunchy curls - tastes just like carbs & salt mmm. Inner Peas snack. Flaky crackers. Stuff like that. Pasta & lentils are fairly cheap but most of…
  • Skim milk also has protein, almond milk has nearly none (one gram per cup IIRC). So it isn't that one is better nutritionally, but rather what is better for your personal goals? Not all people count carbs, sodium or sugar, and some people think the extra 50 or so calories are worth it.
  • Challenge - Rhode Island, 27 Miles Today 1/12 walked 4.09 miles - 22.91 miles to go! 1/21 walked 2.07 miles - 20.84 miles to go! Really need to start walking on my lunch again, I'd be halfway there if I were still doing that!
  • The magic trifecta for me for avoiding issues is - fiber, water and oil. Not drinking enough or not eating enough fat can cause me problems as well. Specifically for the fiber I prefer lentils and try to have at least one serving a day. I cook some up, flavoring with cumin, garlic powder and maybe a bit of chili powder,…

  • 2.02 miles walking this morning taking the bus... through snow gets me extra calories burned! Will have to check out the ticker after work.
  • I'm in for Rhode Island. It's so cold out I need extra incentive to exercise since walking outside hasn't been a good option.
  • +1 on cancelling the gym membership if you aren't using it I can't give sage advice as I don't have kids, but what about walking on your lunch at work? I can't do anything really sweaty on lunch (my coworkers would not appreciate it) but walking around inside the building or outside burns calories.
  • I buy less perishable produce (ie apples, winter squash) or buy frozen. You can go to the store several times a week as well but that might be a fair amount of time out of your week. I try not to buy greens or other really perishable produce unless I have plans to cook it that day. Once in the produce drawer it's out of…
  • I think it's just that a lot of meal plans don't take into account how people might actually cook (don't get me started on how they never use leftovers) and/or don't want to frighten away those that like bland food. Spice away, although as others state, logging them is not a bad idea.

  • Hmmm if you don't like eggs what about a breakfast burrito with tofu instead of eggs? Some cheese, sausage, whatever else you like. Can even be prepared in batches and frozen.
  • Seitan Beans/Lentils soy nuts/soy milk Veggie burgers. Ones that aren't pretending to be beef are usually better tasting IMO - black bean is particularly good
  • This. I had intermittant bad nausea and I ran to the doc. (Reflux, not baby) I'm really just here for baby update though. Feel like we should take up a collection for a test or something.
  • +1 on trying chewables or gummies while waiting to see your doctor. The horse pill ones make me sick. Now they have brand here that does half-pills, you take two but they're smaller so you can take them at different times. Less irritating to the stomach. Don't know if they have them in the UK.
  • What access do you have to humanely raised eggs & meat? Would you feel OK about eating that? Also, consider that you're sick and recovering. Would you take a drug tested on animals or with animal ingredients if there were no good alternative? This is really the same thing - you're adding things back to your diet for…
  • Someone else mentioned - did you take any medication for the virus symptoms that maybe you're still feeling the effects of? For me it's fiber, fat and water. If I start getting backed up, I make sure to eat lentils - a couple servings a day with a tsp or so of olive or canola oil mixed in, and drink plenty of water. YMMV…
  • Definitely, my weight gain started with prednisone. I was really hungry pretty much all the time and too tired to shop/cook due to the disease. It may be helpful to go to forums specializing in your illness (or one that has the same med as treatment) and see if people can help with coping strategies. Just because the…
  • Sounds like a stomach bug to me, but also maybe kale just doesn't agree with you. Too much zucchini gives me indigestion, not an allergy or anything but just doesn't agree with me. It's worth testing again later, especially since you've had kale in a salad with no issues before.
  • My mom uses gruyere in her mac & cheese, along with regular cheddar. So maybe gruyere mixed with something slightly milder. I've only had aged gouda straight, not in a dish, but it seems like it would work. And agreed on the mustard powder. Just a bit.
  • This. Plus the number of points you're assigned takes some fruit and veg into account - the minimum 26 points is roughly 1000-1100 calories so they're assuming that you will eat some calories in fruit & vegetables every day.
  • Why? It's easy to fix and has a high protein content for the calories. Easy way to get more protein in my day.
  • I do the same thing. To be honest, I'm also a lazy cook so part of it is taking the easy way out when cooking. Breakfast and lunch are "reasonably OK tasting and filling and easy to take to work" and dinner is usually something I actually enjoy eating.
