  • I say go run the race and see what happens. It's great to have a goal, but if it is your first 5k you should treat it like your baseline. My first race goal was to be under 30 min and run the whole time - no cheating on hills. I ran a 28:26. My PR is 25:26. I hope to one day be under 25. I still get excited when I can see…
  • Congrats on your first race. Warning - it is addictive. I do about 2 a month now ;). A lot of serious runners suggest drinking a cup of coffee before runs. The caffeine helps blood flow. Some people's stomach doesn't tolerate it well, but I won't lace up without a cup of joe in my system.
  • I use it as motivation! They honk b/c my bum looks good. (makes me keep going) They honk b/c they think I'm running too slow. (makes me speed up) They honk b/c they are annoying and too lazy to run themselves. (gives me a good laugh) I just always give a peace sign and keep going.
  • I'm new to protein powder. Is there a brand that I should avoid or try?
  • I 100th getting fitted. I cannot even stand to wear my Nikes to the mall that I ran in for four months before getting properly fitted. I'm a Brooks girl all the way. Getting the right shoes has reduced my knee issues and have made my long runs way more comfortable. It was a shock to my system to pay $100 for running shoes,…
  • I plan to run my first half Feb 2013. I hate the hot weather in the south and I just don't know if I can be ready by Nov 2 for the Rock n Roll in Savannah. I hope that by September I can up my mileage (I run about 6 miles 3x a week) and get serious about training! Run on!
  • Congrats! That's an awesome time drop! Keep doing what you're doing and I bet you'll see a sub-30 next time! Run on!!!!
  • I'm at the end of week four tonight! I found that I get cramps horribly when I run the next day after 200+. I hope this gets better.
  • I just found this group. Is it too late for me to jump in tonight? I really need motivation to work on my core strength to hopefully improve my running times. I hope you guys don't mind...
  • Hi everyone. I'm 5'9.5" with a large frame. I currently weigh 137. I started MFP at 156 and set 145 as my goal. Now I'm trying to get to 130 after meeting my first goal pretty easily. I actually had a friend of mine who saw me recently and said that he never thought I was over weight or needed to lose any weight - until he…
  • I graduated today (1/1/12) and ran 3.73 miles for my first run of 2012. Current mile average is 10:21/mi. Looking forward to improving that time and scheduling my first official race in the next few weeks.
  • Sonya - Congrats on your 5k run today. What a great way to start off the new year. I hope to run my first official race at the end of this month. That's a great time! I can't wait to keep up with your progress. We should have a cyber graduation ceremony! W9D3 Stats: Distance: 3.73 Run Pace: 10:21/mi Walk Pace: 14.09/mi Cal…
  • Well at least the two of us finished up on time Sonyachan! I did W9D2 today. I was hoping to see a little improvement in speed, but none so far. Oh well. I'm thinking of doing what you are talking about Sonya. But I'm going to run the 30 min program 3x a week for the three weeks and see if I make any improvement. I'll…
  • Hi, everyone. I'm 36, married without kids, and I work from home. I'm currently on week 9 of the C25K program and have made running 3 days a week a part of my lifestyle. I'm looking to including additional activities to my routine and a challenge may be just what the doctor ordered. While doing c25k I lost almost 10 lbs.…
  • W9D1 Complete. I still cannot believe I'm on week 9. Dexter_Dexte I will post final measurements on Friday or Saturday - will that work? Stats below. No improvement over W8D3. • Week 8 was completed on Christmas Eve Eve - although after the severe consumption over the last two days, I should have run at least once this weekend. Oh, well. • You absolutely can do this. I have never run in my entire life and now I look forward to my 30-ish mintes on the road three times a week. Stick with it - even when you're not sure you can put another foot in front of another. You absolutely can make it to the end. You'll find what works best for you. Good Luck!!!
  • W7D2 was completed on Thursday with husband in tow. We averaged a 11:20/mile. W7D3 was completed solo this afternoon. Running with music makes me run faster as I ran at 10:36/mi. Go figure. Here are today's stats. W7D3 Distance: 3.26 mi Run Pace: 10:36/mi Walk Pace: 14:16/mi Cal Burned: 344 Run on ladies!
  • Most dogs, like people, aren't natural runners on a leash. You will probably need to do some training with him and teach him how to stay next to you. A short leash is important, even one that goes around your waist is ideal when your dog gets good at it. Clicker training is a great method and of course smelly treats - like…
  • W7D1 DONE! Today my husband decided to join me and I ran slower than I ever have trying to run with my better half. He's a high school basketball official and is in much better cardio condition than I am, but I run faster typically. It was fun to have company, but I kinda like my alone time with my music. Horrible - I…
  • w6D3 - DONE! The most milage yet!!! Stats below: Distance: 3.34 mi Run Pace: 10:05/mi Walk Pace: 15:09/mi - slow Cal burned: 341 Des92 - are you using the ease into 5K program on your ipod? If so, they updated the app a week and a half ago and altered the times for running and walking a bit, so it might not be exactly what…
  • Week 6 Day 2 was run in the rain this morning. It started out a 65 degree day with rain and by the time I was done I totally believe the temperature had dropped 10 degrees. But I finished - soaking wet and frozen ears. Stats below for today. W6D2 Distance: 2.58mi Run Pace: 10:38/mi Walk Pace: 14:28/mi Calories: 274 Anyone…
  • W6D1 can be checked off the list. I guess my speed will pick up as I get used to running longer and longer, but I'm sad to see I'm running slower than I have all program. Oh well. Something to work on. Today's stats below: W6D1 Distance: 2.55 mi Run Pace: 10:28/mi Walk Pace: 15:31/mi (wow that was SLOW) Cal burned: 252
  • Well - I survived W5D3! I think we should make t-shirts. Stats below. I was slow - no shock. But I didn't stop. W5D3 Distance: 2.50 mi Run Pace: 10:27/mi Walk Pace: 14:28/mi (warm up/cool down) Cal Burned: 297 (the most yet) Bring on W6!!!!

  • I completed W4D3 on Saturday. My left hip has been bothering me, so I guess that slowed me down a bit. My stats are below. W4D3 Distance: 2.61 Walk Pace: 14:49/mi Run Pace: 10:15/mi Calories: 266 W5D1 was today. I had to run on the treadmill tonight b/c it has been raining since 8a this morning. I really dislike running on…
  • It wasn't much of a workout today, but it was something - a 40 min walk with the dogs. I came home from Thanksgiving lunch with the start of the migraine so it was all I could really manage today. It was something though.
  • W4D2 Complete today. It was easier than day 1 this week, but still tough at the end. I think I'm going to repeat this tomorrow as my work out. Stats below: Distance: 2.66mi (most yet) Walk Pace: 14:13/mi Run Pace: 10:11/mi (faster than W4D1, but still slower than the other weeks) Calories Burned: 266 Happy Thanksgiving to…
