  • Saw this on a deal site Ironman Elliptical 1840 @ Wal-mart @ $397. Used to be $797 http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=1777152 Treadmill Doctor is the most legitimate treadmill and elliptical review site I have seen in several years of poking around the internet and looking for reviews as a 'treadmill…
  • Well my blood sugar levels are pretty decent lately. It is extremely difficult to lose weight when on insulin. Even my endocrinologist told me that they have found that to be the case. However I am determined to keep trying. I lost pretty well in the first month but have since tapered off a lot. I however just got into a…
  • I am no expert but one thing I would do is to at least try some upper body weight lifting. I have read studies that have shown people that do strength training lose faster. I have added some to my routine. I have a bad back so I am also limited as to what I can do. Good luck
  • I love it... one person says to drink more water... another to not drink as much.... Well it only shows you were are all different and have our own genes. I have known people that could pretty much eat anything they wanted to and were thin as a bean pole. Others could gain weight just looking at cake. I think you need to…
  • My wife and I recently joined and are determined to do this together which makes it much easier than by oneself. Good luck....
  • My wife and I ditched all the foods and treats that we decided was on our 'bad' list and vowed not to bring 'goodies' into the house. It is the only way not to give in for late night snacking or moments of stress. If we decide to give ourselves a treat we would prefer to buy a single scoop of icecream and eat it out then…
  • Here is a man who has been married for 31 years advice. Dump him and keep looking. There are many other fish out in the sea. You need to find one that will treat you with respect the way a woman should be treated.
  • Also I have learned that not all carbs are created equal. I would stick to what Dr Oz has suggested and toss all 'white' carbs meaning any refined ones. That included white breads. Switch to whole grains. Also no fatty foods. I switched to all lean meats (white chicken and turkey) and also eat more fish. It is a good idea…
  • I had baked COD with mixed vegetables, chicken noodle soup and a salad with very little dressing. It was very low in cals and carbs yet I loved it. And this is from one of our local favorite restaurants. So often it is hard to find foods to eat out that are not a train wreck for carbs and fats.
  • Well I can say that some of us older people came through the 70's and 80's and really hurt ourselves doing those fad diets. There is a lot more good information around (remember we didn't have the internet) and there there was no idea that the body would go into starvation mode if you ate too little. So I for one have…
  • Maybe it is because muscle weights twice that of body fat...so while you can go up on a scale your size goes down. Just a thought
  • I do it once a week. Dr Oz just made a comment on the scale... fat weights half of what muscle does so if your start working out you could in fact increase your overall weight and still be getting smaller in size. So it is not always good to be obsessed with the scale.
  • Have you tried to cut out all high glycemic foods as well as all refined carbs? Watching Dr Oz it seems that the people he has on that have lost half their body weight all used the same strategy. More fruit and veggies and lean meats. So not only matters have many calories we are eating but also what kind. Give that a…
  • I have a bad back and had a couple disks removed 2 years ago. I have decided to use a recumbent bike to exercise with. I am able to do so with minimum back pain. I also use some weights to work the upper body some. So far I have surpassed my goals so I guess the exercise I get on the bike is sufficient. It sure is a much…
  • And is it no wonder Americans are so overweight. This program has been an eye opening experience even for one that has been 'cutting back' for a couple years and 'thinking' they were eating healthy and less food. Even splitting meals with the wife is not enough. There is just SO MUCH calories in most dine out dishes these…
  • My wife makes diet coke cake and it is actually pretty good... she tweaked it some this last time... she added only 10 oz of coke and added 2 egg whites to hold the cake together more. Still less than a normal cake.
  • I am more a cookiemonster... lol ....err... was

  • My wife and I use a treadmill and a recumbent bike along with some free weights. I have a TV setup with a Tivo like setup so we can watch recorded TV shows while we do our workout. Helps with the boredom factor.
  • Welcome.... my wife and I are also new to this site but not new to trying to lose weight. Personally we have chosen a healthier way to lose and are trying to avoid any fad type of dieting as that is probably what got us here in the first place. We are eating more fruits and vegetables as well as small portions of lean…
  • Well Becky is my better half.....we have committed to doing this and promised each other neither one of us would 'derail' us with baking (hint-hint) or buying anything we shouldn't have...hehehe Thanks for all the support.. John
  • Well I am looking into this as well. Read this article and decided to order the "Getting Back in Shape 32 Workout Programs for Lifelong Fitness" book to use as a guide. It got decent reviews on Amazon. http://www.shelterpub.com/_fitness/_office_fitness_clinic/OFC_wt_mgmt.html
  • That is a good idea.... maybe for now just a thread started that gives a thumbs up or down on a product.
  • Well my wife has a bread maker so maybe we could try the recipe.
  • Well try and each low glycemic foods. Here is a website that lists the numbers. I use it to decide what to buy and what not to buy. You can click on top of the list for medium and high items. I stay away from all high number foods. http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/lowglycemicfoodlist.htm
  • I just joined and have been on insulin for a few years now. It is really hard to balance your insulin but I have to say that keeping the food log and exercising has helped me just in this past week. Also one thing to do is to check out the glycemic index for the foods you are eating. We need to eat low glycemic foods as…
  • I really wish they would stop them from putting 'whole wheat' on and item that still has processed wheat in it. I understand the difference but have been looking for suggestion hoping that there someone found one that thought was better. My wife is looking into making her own bread also so many some good recipes for 100%…
  • My wife and I are in Dearborn and just joined together.
