I do a combination of walking and running. i've recently started wearing a hrm which has helped out. however, before then i would call it all walking and then find my average speed. 4mph, 3.5mph 3.0mph etc. i think that would get you close to what you want. unless the treadmill gives you the option to input your…

just signed up. looks like fun and helpful.

thank you sir.

The thing that helped me the most was the training snorkel. But Ms_J1 is correct you need to be pretty comfortable breathing before you start to use it. I like it because it allowed me to build endurance and muscle memory without getting too short of breath. Also don't overwhelm yourself getting into the minutae of the…

1.5 miles tonight. Plus some running/walking this morning. Feeling strong. Plan on doing 2 miles tomorrow. If all goes well.

Mile and a half tonight. Slow slow slow. A little wrecked from my workout this morning and really felt it.

waterfi waterproof ipod to swim with or hrm- my 2 best investments-

welcome to the group. sounds like your off to a great start. i sometimes fool around with flip turns, but i'm concentrating on open turns which allow me to work longer without getting out of breath which allows me to work on my endurance which is where the fat is really burned (worst run on sentence ever). if your looking…

sounds great jim. curry and asparagus 2 of my favorite foods. thanx

I think how you feel after your workout should tell you if its a good one or not. If I feel gassed after mine then its a good one. if not then i guess i'm slacking.

Know all about that. Having no problem with getting my exercise, just can't seem to get my $h1t together with my diet. Tired of being hungry ALL the time. Brutal.

Welcome sir. You can add me as a friend if you like. Swim pretty regular and lost some weight. Sort to plateaued now but confidence is high. Now go out and get wet.

I have the finger counter like bruceapple. Works great. I like to get into a zone when I swim and having to think about my count sort of gets in the way. With the finger doohickey I can go for really long periods without stopping. Just the ticket.

Never done one before. Seems pretty intimidating truthfully. Good luck with it.

I also suggest a training snorkel. It will allow you to swim comfortably with your face in the water. That will allow you to concentrate on smoothing out your stroke without being distracted by your breathing. Will also make it easier to build up endurance. When I first started swimming I had a hard time building up…

You have already done the most important part. You've made a commitment to change. I also have hypertension and sleep apnea. I am feeling much better since I began working out seriously in January. I've lost 35 lbs and I am confident that I will be able to come off my bp meds in the future. You can do it. Start gradually…

Agree with water imawaterbender. When I start having cramps I push off more with legs only and stop using the feet as much. Sort of keeping them flexed a little more, and not extending them. I started get more cramps as I was attempting to add distance. So I started adding Mio electrolyte stuff to my water. Would drink a…

Sorry man. Not for a lack of trying. Good luck with your races.

Just so I understand. Your plan is to gain 20 lbs of fat? And then convert that fat into muscle later? Doesnt sound like a great idea, but I'd love to hear Mfp's opinion on it. Also can you tell us why you want to have an extra 20 lbs on in 2 months? Just don't hear that often, if at all. Mostly hear people trying to lose…

peanut butter. eat it by the spoonful.

Dont worry about missing a day. It's not worth the guilt and wont make a difference in the long run. Just eat to goal and go on. Just get back to it tomorrow, if you can.
-
I wish I could help you. But it does sound like a good resource. And I bet you would have to pay to go to whatever facility they use for practice. If your serious about swimming they can probably help you a lot.

Also a regular user since January. Always looking for dedicated friends. Add if you like. Won't take offense if you don't.

never really worked off monthly goals. generally preferred to work on a weekly basis. when i was doing my riding i would ride 3 or 4 times a week. generally about an hour. then a long ride on the weekends of about 2 hours or so. of course your mileage will vary on the type of bike you ride. so on my road bike my hour rides…

What helped me the most when I started swimming was a training snorkel. I purchased mine through swimoutlet.com. It helped me build endurance by allowing me to go multiple laps nonstop. It lets you really concentrate on smoothing out your stroke without getting out of breath. When I would get gassed doing a regular…
