  • I usually mash the avocado and add some garlic salt, pepper (dried habanero peppers from my garden), and lemon or lime juice. I usually use half an avocado, so the other half I store in the refrigerator until ready to use. Sometimes I top my avocado toast with either a poached egg or bacon.
  • I've been going for 3 months. The first 2 months I was signed up for 8 visits a month, but last month I started unlimited visits and have been going 5 times a week. Last month I lost 8 pounds and a few inches (my Orangetheory will take measurements to compare month-to-month results). I typically burn just over 500 calories…
  • I am a 190 pound female with approximately 110 pounds lean body mass. My goal is to lose 50 pounds (maybe more) while minimizing loss of lean body mass. I recently set my macros as follows: Calories: 1,700 Carbs: 159 (35%) Protein: 128 (30%) Fat: 66 (35%) I've heard a number of ways to calculate protein needs including 1…
  • I had someone sitting next to me in class last week pick up my 100 calorie container of Activia yogurt and ask "How much sugar in this? 15 grams, that's a lot!" The person lost a lot of weight on a low carb diet, but I am not on a low carb diet. It felt awfully judgmental.
  • Insurance should cover cholesterol testing, and I believe it's commonly done if you go for a physical. If they don't cover a cholesterol panel you could try donating blood. I gave blood recently and they sent the total cholesterol about 1-2 weeks later (they did not send HDL and LDL numbers).
  • You look great!
  • I am right there with you. I'm 42 years old and weigh about 180, so have at least 40 pounds to lose. I tried netting 1200 calories a day for a while. Recently I switched to grossing approximately 1600 calories a day. I've been at this for a few months, and have actually put on a couple of pounds.
  • Great job! I ran my first Sprint Tri last year at 41. I had a great time and look forward to doing more this year.
  • Sadly I am in an apartment complex. I just moved to TN and only had a week to find a place. I have not decided if I will rent or buy, but I will leave the apartment as soon as my lease is up. It is just too small for my family and for the same amount monthly I can rent or buy a house with 2x the space. Buying a house can…
  • I did not buy either as rental property. Both were my primary residence at one point. Also, there are certainly times when renting is the best and maybe only option. I was just out of college once, and wasn't always in a situation where I could afford to buy a house. But, the point is if you think you aren't paying…
  • I own 2 homes that are rented out and live in an apartment that I am renting. I can assure you that my apartment is owned by a corporation that is in business for the sole purpose of making money. ALL THE COSTS (taxes, maintenance, insurance) plus some profit are passed on to me in the form of my rent. While there are…
  • I moved to Tennessee in January and have had a hard time getting into a routine. I've already lost about 5 minutes off my 5k time (which wasn't good to begin with). I am signed up for Peachtree Road Race 10k in Atlanta on July 4th, so had to start running again.
  • Does anyone else have skin issues from eating gluten? I have eczema which causes my fingertips to crack. It is extremely painful and I have been to the doctor several times. Docs usually give me steroid cream for my hands. Steroids don't seem to prevent cracks, so I tried bandaids, tape, new skin, etc. to no avail. They…
  • I have a polar that works for swims. It stays connected and seems accurate. It's an older F6. Per the polar website "All Polar heart rate sensors can be worn in water. Only sensors with 5 kHz transmission detect heart rate while swimming." http://www.polar.fi/en/support/Compatibility_Between_Receivers_and_Transmitters
  • I love mine, but bought it on Craigslist for $100. I do not use it too much because it is put away and a little hard to get to. I have a magic bullet that gets more use than the Vitamix just because it is so much lighter.
  • Start gradually to prevent shin splints. What I have heard is never increase distance by more than 10% per week. I've never done the couch to 5k program, but hear it is good. Also, get fitted for running shoes at a running store (not a sporting goods store but a running store).
  • Steamed
  • You are beautiful! Congrats on your progress.
  • Nothing wrong with milk, but the fact that lunch was mashed potatoes with gravy, breadstick, and milk. Gravy had some turkey, but hope they don't cut down on that protein. One parent was telling me if her high school son got hot lunch, she had to pay for two lunches because he was still hungry with one. I can certainly see…
  • Of course they aren't all the same, but I went to 4 different high schools and went to school in 4 different states. What I got was hands down better than the carbs and milk that my kids are offered.
  • Very few schools actually prepare lunches any more. In my kids school, lunches are contracted out to Sodexo. Lunches are presented as healthy, but I went to lunch with my daughter at middle school once and I was really upset at what kids were eating. Most kids sat down with a serving of mashed potatoes and gravy, a…
  • Congrats! I am considering low carb and I will look for the magazine.
  • You look so much younger. Great job!
  • Doing great! Keep up the great work!
  • I haven't tried Isopure, but it has good reviews on amazon and I understand it's lactose free. It's on my list to try.
  • Same problem here. Used to swim team, but now I dread flip turns. It just feels like they zap my energy (and breathing). I swam 10x100 free yesterday and wanted to quit because of the flip turns, especially toward the end as I was getting really tired.
