  • One more here. I'm a 6'4" tall male and 12 years ago I was 260lbs. I got down to 185 in about 9 months. Ever since then I've been between 185 and 215. (75lb to 55lb weight loss). No one would want to see me on YouTube or leading a gym class. I'm a programmer and I sit for a ridiculous amount of my life.
  • Pre-Log your food then try to eat what you logged. If it ends up being different, edit it to be accurate. I say 80% of weight loss is diet (everyone agrees that diet > exercise but the percentage is up in the air). That being said I find that pairing diet with exercise creates a mental connection. Why waste a hard exercise…
  • Truly awesome man, great stuff!
  • Hi and welcome! Although I figured out the "system" pretty quick, and could work it without this site, it really does help. The food database alone is a huge time saver. Also reading everyone's story is both educational and inspirational. 10 years ago I was in your boat only a bit younger. It took me about 5 months of…
  • My personal experience is that diet is the best way to lose weight, exercise and sports is the best way to keep it off. Good thoughts, keep it up!
  • Lost ~70 lbs 10 years ago, still down > 50lbs
  • That's ridiculous bro, friggin' awesome!!! Keep it up!!!
  • A great way to make it a lifetime change is to pickup a physical activity that you really enjoy. For me it was soccer. Even though I went back to eating like garbage, playing 2-3 games/week gave me the calorie budget I needed to keep from getting BIG again.

  • ROFLMAO! I think this is my favorite before/after yet!
  • Yup, I lost 70lbs with diet alone. I caution people about exercising too early in your weight loss journey because you are at higher risk of injury.
  • Your gender, age, and starting point all have a huge impact on this. When I was 29 with ~70lbs to lose I had similar results. Now that I'm pushing 40 and starting a moderate cut it took a good 3 weeks before the scale moved at all! 1-2 lbs/week average is the recommended safe, maintainable weight loss target so I think…
  • That is some incredible progress! Truth is the scale is really garbage for determining health. The only reason we use it at all is that it's so simple and straight forward and cheap. If we could buy an in-home dexa scanner for $30 and home blood work lab then we'd use that instead and have a lot more sanity. It's great…
  • Great job to both of you! Really impressive!
  • That's super awesome, well done!
  • If you can afford the trainer (and they're competent) I'd go that route. Otherwise you can find lots of good info on youtube showing how to do lifts. Just pay attention and get several sources. There is SOOO much misinformation in fitness and nutrition so you've got to do the research and then test it with your own body.…
  • True story man, great work!
  • Aug 2008 to Jan 2009. I tried to recreate the 2008 pic as best I could. Little hard to tell in the shirt (baggy) but this is about 265 to 195. I actually lost all the weight over about 5 months then over the past 9 years have gone up and down from a new high of 220 to 185.
  • When I was 29 and started losing it was almost immediate. Here at almost 40 I'm starting a recomp on a cut cycle and it's taken 3-4 weeks to start seeing it on the scale/mirror. This path is about patience and persistence. I always recommend that you weigh yourself once and only once per week at the same day/time under the…
  • That's awesome, welcome! Step 1, fill out your profile and some goals. Then take some starting point pictures. These are INVALUABLE! You don't have to make them public if you're not comfortable with that but you NEED them for you. Depending on how far you have to go you you may hit plateaus and challenges, the progress…
  • I wish I could identify the magic trigger that causes people to finally make (and stick to) life changing decisions but I can't. You've got to find what drives and motivates you personally. Whether it's losing weight, building muscle, quitting smoking, exercising, career changes, anything... you've got to have that…
  • Yeah, weight is pretty much garbage as a goal, we just all drift to it because it's so easy to measure. You may try getting your BodyFat % tested by the most accurate means you can afford. This, too, is notoriously garbage though as no 2 methods agree and people can look significantly different with the same measured…
  • Although I agree with Quik and Puff there's a delineation between losing weight and feeling good. Additionally if at some point you get into rigorous exercise or a sport then that grilled chicken and rice will serve you much better than the McDouble and Small Fry. There's also quite a bit of debate/uncertainty concerning…
  • I think everyone's different (physically and mentally) so you've got to try different advice and find what ultimately works for you. For me it was (is) all or nothing, at least until you get to a point where you're metabolism is really burning and you're at a point it's safe to add some serious exercise. One thing I found…
  • Lift, which REQUIRES eating more for muscle to develop. Based on your description I'd suggest starting the lift now vs. losing more weight first. Actually, the first first step is to figure out what your honest to god maintenance calories are. 2-3 weeks of trying to eat at maintenance and weighing yourself will help you…
  • Doesn't matter how many times you stop so long as you start again! Great job! Water and herbal tea (like kitty suggested) are great! I rotate between Earl Grey, Chai, and Green Tea. A Tbsp of creamer or honey runs you ~25 cals and really takes the edge off if the taste is too much for you at first. Keep it up!
  • Yeah I can appreciate your frustration. When I started losing what I wanted most was to lose my belly. I thought I had a decent chest, arms, "lower" half... at 70lbs down I discovered I had almost zero muscle, no trunk at all... and still had a belly! So frustrating! It sounds though like you've got a "favorable" body…
  • Yeah you're so not alone. I flip flop all the time, and have for years. I started at 265, dropped to 185 and over the past 8 have yoyo'd between about 195 and 220 (currently 200). The really important thing I think is not to put a mental barrier in between you and eating healthy at any time. At ANY moment you can opt for…
  • Looks like you also lost some resolution. j/k, great job!
  • Congrats man, you look awesome!
  • Unsalted almonds are my favorite snack. Not too hard to resist over eating and they'll fill your belly with protein for the night. win/win
