  • First of all welcome to the community! This is a great place to start. To answer your questions, definitely focus on your diet and making good choices. Fix areas that you know need adjusting. As for exercise, do you have an injury or condition that would hurt you?? Why would your dr. say stay away but not give you options?…
  • What surface are you walking on? Also, what type of shoes are you wearing? Make sure you have good supportive shoes, avoid concrete/asphalt if possible and do a good dynamic warm up before any exercise. Stretch your calves, hamstrings, quads, hip flexors and glutes really well after as well.
  • Are you eating back your exercise calories? If you are eating around 1200 and exercising around 300, your net is 900 which means it's simply not enough. I know it sounds odd to say eat more to lose weight, but at 1200 you are already eating at a deficit and you would lose weight without exercise. Go to this site and find…
  • It could be a couple things, but make sure you are wearing proper footwear for YOU for exercise. If it only hurts after walking this path, try walking on a different surface and see if there's a difference.
  • What do you mean by a lot less? If you would open your diary or give us an idea about calorie intake, it would be helpful. Did you measure inches or just look at the scale?
  • Will do ;)
  • It can be intimidating, BUT you already know that there are tons of benefits. My advice, find a workout partner for the weights, preferably someone who is experienced that can help you with form, spotting and a good program and get in there! If you don't know anyone, see if you can get a couple sessions (or more) with a…
  • This is my favorite answer ever.
  • Totally agree. Look into weights and I think you will get the results you want!
  • What is their daily routine like?
  • As far as cutting back your workouts, it's going to depend on your schedule. I love working out and I would workout 6 days a week easily. Some times life gets in the way and I can't. It's all finding the schedule that works for your life. The key will be your diet. Try to keep your caloric intake within a range and the…
  • Get to Physical therapy and let them use the modalities they have available to promote healing and help you progressively strengthen it. If you keep doing more than you should, you will continue to reinjure
  • As long as your diet is intact and you are eating at a deficit or at maintenance you will not gain weight back.
  • What are your goals and what do you enjoy? If you have the Wii, one workout I liked was the Biggest Loser because you can choose what level, how long (anywhere from 12 min-60 min), what area you wanted to focus and what type of program--they even had a yoga, circuit training, kickboxing...so you could really mix up what…
  • It's really going to be choosing based on your foot structure and movement. I personally love Adidas and can find inexpensive ones, but it really will all depend.
  • Yep. Some races have costume contests as part of the race. Just adds a little fun to the race
  • Wear tighter fitting clothes--lycra and technical shirts are easy to clean. Ditto the jugs of water. The hoses had no pressure so I basically gave up and just changed as best I could with no rinsing. It was fun so enjoy!
  • Really anything that is out there you can modify some of the moves to be low impact. I know it may affect the intensity in a way, but it would be dependent on your intensity the rest of the DVD. Les Mills Combat is a great workout and you don't have to do the high impact. Lots of punches and kicks and just do the…
  • Make sure you do a warm up before you run and are well hydrated. Static stretching is best done following a workout and dynamic stretching is better before cardio: http://www.runnersworld.com/stretching/dynamic-routine
  • Same thing happened to me. Its frustrating but your body has to acclimate to the heat and humidity like vetryshyn said. I agree, run early in the day, drink more water, plan to take breaks as needed and try not to be discouraged. It's hard I know because just today I was very down about how horrible it was.
  • Congrats on your time! That is awesome! That stinks about the water stops though. It has to be so hard to plan but I would think they would always have more than they think. Are you going to do another one?
  • I agree. Don't look at the scale but take measurements, body fat and go from there
  • I have a huge problem here as well and I would love to hear a solution. The only solution I have found is to run in areas where there are no creeks, ponds where they tend to be worse. And no, bug spray has never helped and no, I won't stay on a treadmill
  • Yeah, proper diet and overall exercise ans strengthening is the only thing. Get rid of sodas, limit alcohol
  • Yes, what is your calorie goal? Do you eat back exercise calories?
  • Definitely look into a program like the C25K and good luck to you!
  • Wow! I am impressed that you are doing cardio at 8 weeks! I had 2 CSections and although I recovered quickly, I still didn't do anything more than walking for exercise up until about 12 weeks. I would check with your Dr. about any ab work. 8 weeks is very early to stress muscles that were cut open and you really need to…
  • There is a lot more information needed to know to give information about the injury but if your insurance allows, go straight to an orthopedic and skip the referral process. Many family docs don't have sports med/ortho background and are going to give you the staple rest for 2 weeks, ibuprofen, ice....lecture.
  • Talk to your PT and they should be able to help you with exercises/modifications that ARE good for you that will help your issues
