  • Thanks. My Dr prescribed many of those exercises. I guess I just need to keep doing them. Glad to see another vote for chins as I love my chins. Really missing inclined bench. Hopefully someday. Thanks again.
  • Elliptical. That's all I've been doing. Coming up on nearly a month without serious strength training due to a shoulder problem. Saw a Dr last week and now know it's impingement (the likely result of my shoulder separation from back in '09). Happy it's not a tear. Doing band exercises to deal with the shoulder impingement…
  • Pulled the engine out of my wakeboard boat over the weekend. May not sound like much, but climbing in and out of a good sized boat on a trailer, hour...after hour...after hour for three days (not to mention all the wrenching and lifting) was something of a workout. Can't believe it, but re-injured my shoulder (I wasn't…
  • I gingerly did some chins at work today (I have a pull up tower in my office to force/remind me not to spend all day sitting on my brains). It worked. Seems my shoulder has healed!! Back to strength training this weekend! Well, easing into it (don't want a repeat).
  • Shoulder still damaged, so no strength training. 35 min elliptical last night. Working my evening side hustle for the next three days (all income to retirement-sailboat goal), so up at 5:20A for 35 min on the elliptical again.
  • I have a horrible sweet tooth. Prunes satisfy it. I happen to love prunes, so that helps. Perhaps give them a shot?
  • I have a gallon jar of pickled eggs in the fridge. Won't be ready for a couple of weeks though. We go through them like crazy.
  • Easy cardio day (34 minutes intense, but not HIIT) Bumped up my preacher curl weight by 20# for a change (3x5 instead of my usual 5x10). Lat pulls downs (5x10), reverse narrow grip lat pull downs(3x10), and approx 50 Greasing the Groove-like chin ups at work. Form was so horrible while grunting out the final curl reps, I…
  • New Precors may work with bluetooth, ANT+, etc, but my older one needs a HRM that transmits 5 kHZ. Phone is generally plugged into my old receiver pumping out music, so not really looking for an app situation. The heart rate indicator on the machine is spot-on (generally within 1 beat when compared to apps I've tried…
  • I have a commercial Precor elliptical. I thought it would connect, but now I'm not so sure. Support request into Wahoo for clarification. Hope it works, otherwise I'm going to have to ship it back when it arrives. A little research goes a long way (I should have done my due dilligence). Apparently Wahoo does not transmit a…
  • I am an afternoon or evening workout kind of guy. Always have been. However, I have plans this evening, so I actually got up at 5AM and cranked out 440 cals (indicated) on the elliptical. Glad I did it, but no plans to make this early AM nonsense a habit.
  • I hear you regarding shoulder issues. Dirtbikes (mostly) and snowboards (and doing drunken cartwheels at 2AM in a piazza in Italy) have all required their blood sacrifices. Although not entirely pain free, what helps me is an incline bench. 15 degrees is all it takes for my better shoulder to be pain free when doing bench.…

  • VW Bug parts strewn about, but it works. Actually, works well. I present: The Gender Neutral Cave of Despair:
  • Cardio (HIIT) gold right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FssULNGSZIA
  • Thanks again everyone. Ordered up the Wahoo Tickr. Went directly to their site (Amazon was weird (medical professional, business account nonsense).
  • Still spent from overdoing it on the prior day (body was telling me "Hold up there, Tiger" -my body is a bit of an ahole). So, no cardio last night. Just focused on Abs, back and biceps.
  • Kimchi (for a few reasons). I don't even waste my time counting cals from it. Make sure you have windows that open.
  • Two 10-rep sets on the bench (raised to 15 degrees). Onto the elliptical for HIIT cardio (4 min intervals), after four minutes, jump on bench for ten reps (before the elliptical resets (30 sec)), then back on elliptical for 4 min interval, back to bench, repeat, repeat repeat... 39 min total on elliptical (clock stops when…
  • I make the time for working out in the evenings (wife would rather have me out of the house anyway). It's my evening priority right now. In addition, I have an office job, so, naturally, I have a pull up/dip station in my office that I also turn to throughout the day (not super effective the way I approach it, but it's…
  • I have a gym in my shop, decked out with sound and a TV. I used to watch movies while doing cardio (something with action as I noticed I would inadvertently push harder during action scenes). However, I find I push even harder with pounding music. So, music it is. Probably too loud. Okay, I know it's too loud, but we live…

  • I have a Precor 576i that I bought used, some years back. It was expensive. However, not once have I had buyer's remorse. Pinched pennies for nearly a year to make it happen. In my opinion, they are well worth the extra money.
  • Bench Press. Bothered my back and shoulders. Finally bought a Super Bench (Precor). I raise it to 15 degrees. Back and shoulders are happy.
  • I have a red and a black "Rubberbandtz" bands for dips at work (I only use the red one now, if at all, if I find myself doing dips at work). Just loop one or both (or more if needed) around your dip handles, put your knees on them, and off you go. They have heavier bands as well (can't recall the color(s)). I'd rec you use…
  • Good question. I log 430 or 480 cals a day (depending if straight cardio or HIIT cardio) x6/wk. I do not attempt to log any cals for strength training (even if a component of HIIT). Like others, I try not to eat those cals back and bank them in case I go over my daily cals on occasion (i.e. Saturday rest and cheat day).
  • 38 min of HIIT on the elliptical (most every four mins (once HR comes down), jump off an crank out 10 reps on a 15 degree bench press before the elliptical resets (total 80 reps)). Afterwards, on to lat pull downs (alternating close reverse and wide forward grip) and preacher curls. Pretty nasty evening. Tonight,…
  • With just a pull up/dip/leg lift station (commercial quality), you could hit a lot of areas. Add a commercial elliptical, and you'd be well on your way. If unable to do dips/pullups/chinups, you could use bands to help get you going.
  • Back in jr. high and high school (gawd that was a long time ago), I was obsessed with my vertical (I high jumped and played, poorly, basketball). I ran a lot, but I really went after jump rope and a machine we called a "leaper". Basically, it was a squat machine with some sort of fly wheel dealio (it did not use plates…
  • Big fan here and effective if you're willing. I'd rec you not use handles/bars at all...ever. The little balance corrections you'll constantly make will help tone your core. Also using it with weights (dumbbells) helps with some upper body areas (arms bent and some pumping like when jogging/running, above head, straight…
  • Good question. Most of the time I don't. Oddly, I find it hard to hit my 1200 cals durine the week, then deduct 400+ cal burn 5-6 times a week from that, and I'm way too low. I've stalled at 25lbs for a couple weeks now. I'm slowly increasing cals to get the fat loss to start back up. Not fatigued (workouts getting easier…
