  • You take the Heathrow Express. You try to swipe your paper ticket on the Oyster readers. You press the buttons to open the tube doors. You take the tube from Leicester Square to Covent Garden. You barge onto the train before letting the people off then tell everyone that Londoners are rude.
  • Yep, my husband's Grandma just turned 97 and she still plays golf twice a week. My mum on the other hand tells me she can't do anything because she's 'old' when she's only 55!
  • You can't measure body fat with circumference measures or by weight. If I have bigger hip bones that you, I could have double the circumference with the same percentage of body fat. Likewise, someone with a lot of muscle will have a lower body fat percentage than someone the same size with little muscle. When we measured…
  • I find one fried egg on a slice of wholegrain toast or 1/2 avocado on a slice of wholegrain toast super filling :) I also like a crumpet with ricotta and honey but it's not quite as filling.
  • Cravings. Not necessarily for a particular food, usually just for a LOT of food - enter binge. I've not binged in ages though which I guess is a good thing. Other than that, being busy/lazy - when I had a 1.5hr commute each way from work, if I'd had a really crappy day, the last thing I wanted to do was cook when I got…
  • As long as it's simple healthy eating, I don't see why you wouldn't just eat the same thing. People who aren't trying to lose weight still benefit from eating healthily. Hubby and I eat the same meals but he has some extra (healthy) snacks because his requirements are higher. If I were doing something extreme like cutting…
  • If he thinks tattoos are trashy and you are planning to get quite an obvious one, won't he then feel embarrassed being seen with you? I'd have thought that could break a relationship. Definitely something that at least warrants a discussion I think.
  • hahaha mine is similar - my father in law told me once that my 1 sausage with 1 slice of bread was much worse than his 3 sausages...
  • Bahahahaha! Not a fan of dominos but I like the idea!
  • I'm not a vegetarian but I do eat a lot of vegetarian foods :) Also, at the moment I'm doing a month as a vegetarian (little carbon offset for my 30 before 30).

  • Ha! Apparently as a dietitian, my job officially makes the 'not stressful' list. Clearly the person writing the list has never had a patient's family screaming at them about how much weight their Mum has lost or a doctor blaming you for killing the patient that they have legal responsibility for. Actually, come to think of…
  • I get why you would want to avoid changing weights mid-workout but I don't think most people can get away with using the same weight for every muscle group. You'll be letting yourself down if you do because the small muscle groups will always be holding the big muscle groups back.
  • Yeah, similarly, I just say no thanks, I just had breakfast/lunch (or I'm going to have lunch soon)
  • If you are making them at home, I think you can adapt either to make both a good choice. If you are eating out or buying packaged, it really depends on the portion. Neither will be good calories-wise. Perhaps the fries are easier to 'guess' the portion and calories than the soup - not that that necessarily makes it a…
  • Wow. Really? What research did you do? There's like a good 50 years of research including level 1 evidence that shows this. A famous dietitian in Australia recently said that despite the strong evidence against saturated fat, we shouldn't be asking whether butter or margarine is better but rather trying to reduce our…
  • I'm totally the same. You can easily undo a whole week worth of hard work in a weekend if you aren't careful. I either try to get in some extra exercise, which usually helps with the boredom/home thing too or I aim to eat my maintenance calories. Sure, I would lose more if I ate to goal but if I eat to maintenance, at…
  • Actually, of course you can gain muscle from cardio! You can gain muscle through any use of muscle. You don't think you use muscles when you do cardio? Of course, strength training is more efficient at building muscle. You can also gain muscle when in calorie deficit if you have excess fat - this is because the excess fat…
  • I've had a look at that before. I think it's a really odd representation - particularly of the higher weights. One of my facebook friends posted her before and during but the before looked slimmer than she is now, in my opinion, even though she's lost quite a bit of weight.
  • Definitely hate it! I love the sunshine but would prefer it a bit cooler. I actually prefer a winter sunny day :)
  • I can't help but feel you didn't understand the point of this post - since your reply is essentially saying you try not to eat. I think this view is the view of the majority of purist eaters. It can't hurt, right? Well... how do you know that? There are lots of natural things that can do us harm, example: arsenic. Just as…
  • I agree. Partly for educational purposes so people get to see how many calories the foods they are eating have and partly because as a whole, those who choose to 'diet' without calorie counting tend to eat far too little making the plan very unsustainable. Those people usually don't appreciate that they could actually eat…
  • Also, even if you aren't burning fat at the specific time you are doing the exercise, you are burning calories. Eventually, your body is going to need to get them from somewhere so if you are eating at a calorie deficit then you will burn fat. Maybe not at the same time as the exercise but still, because of the exercise.
  • This is an interesting statement. I'm not sure what is had to do with my post :) As a registered dietitian, I'm pretty confident in my knowledge that each person's body breaks down food slightly differently and that different foods require a different amount of energy and time to be digested.
  • I honestly don't think it is the same for 2 reasons: 1) When you eat packaged foods you are more likely to underestimate the calories you are taking in. Ie packaged food can be labeled up to 50% wrong but xxx grams of say potato is likely to be much more accurate 2) Different foods are processed by the body very…
  • This thai fish recipe is amazing http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/25501/barbecued+fish+with+thai+dressing+and+coconut+rice I don't like spicy so I leave out the chilli. Nice and summery too :) I just do it in the frypan instead of the barbecue. If you want something more simple you could just pop the fillet on a piece of…
  • I'm a total foodie (as are all dietitians :P). If you take away any eating for pleasure then my life would not be worth living. Perhaps a little over dramatic haha but I think food is there to be enjoyed. I definitely have a 'everything in moderation' mantra. Part of the trick of a true lifestyle change though is actually…
  • I was also super good with the gym at uni - it was way cheap so I just paid upfront so then it felt free for a year and was really convenient on campus. Food-wise, I can't say I was rich enough for takeaways! I cooked in bulk and froze things - basically ate the same thing every day for a fortnight. It was what I needed to…
  • Totally see your point. That's me, I don't enjoy lifting at all but hey, it gets different results from cardio alone.
  • I think it would be hard to do both together since they work in such different ways ie. MFP focuses completely on calories where some weight watchers points don't align with the calorie content because of the type of food and the other parameters they use to assign points which they then make up for with their free foods…
  • That's a LOT of protein! Nearly 300g/day. Even if your lean body mass was 100kg (which I'm thinking is generous for most people), it would still be 0.47g nitrogen/kg! There's no way your body can cope with that, maximum protein utilisation sits at around 0.3g nitrogen/kg. Maybe something to think about.
