  • Yes it helps tremendously. I unfortunately yo-yo and was at my thinnest 140#s and 5'9" whrn i was walking everywhere. Tonight I'm going to a Mexican restaurant. I can't afford the calories so I'm consoling myself by walking there and home. I feel a little better about it that way.
  • You say you cannot work out outdoors, but cann you walk outdoors? When i started exercise for the first time in my life at age 32, i started by walking...a lot. I didn't want to do any sort of difficult exercie with impact until i took the weight off my joints.
  • I think you sound like you might be a bit depressed. If you are eating to treat your depression, no amount of willpower, determination or "wanting it badly" will help you lose weight. You need to treat the cause, not the symptom (weight gain as a result of overeating). If you are depressed you will continue to beat…
  • Breakfast burritos thst can be made a few days ahead and toasted up in the morning: Ancient Grain tortilla 1egg ham Cheddar cheese 251cal If you want it bulkier, adding an extra egg white with the whole egg, or add more ham, but swap out the cheddar for feta.
  • You don't have a set point, everyone has variable appetites. Many of us, unfortunately have a big appetite and that is what is difficult (or impossible ) to change. I'm so jealous of people who can eat half a sandwich and be full. I've pushed down to 145 and to maintain that I have to basically be mildly hungry at all…
  • There's calorie counting and intuitive eating. It can go hand in hand. If I'm not h8ngry, I don't eat. The other day I ate 1100cal and was fine and not hungry. The next day I was starving at 1800. I went to sleep hungry. I love the days I can eat low cal and not be hungry. I love when my body actually uses its off button.…
  • I'm 38, but I'm taller 5'9" and exercise like you, but do not walk like you do. On days that I exercise I allow myself 1800cal. On days I don't exercise I can comfortably (without wanting to kill someone) stay around 1300cal. Without knowing you and guessing, I'd say your calories are too high. Have you calculated your…
  • Maybe buy a baby food cookbook. Children usually hate vegetables, you can hide yours just like I did for my kids when they were toddlers. They too thought they hated vegetables.
  • I foolishly bought into it and hated the shakes, but was too lazy to turn off delivery. I ended up with 24 unopened shake cans (yes, crazy!). They had been sitting in the house collecting dust and one day my husband got sick of them and decided to drink them as meal replacements. He drank 1-2 a day and added a banana and…
  • This is me! I was so incredibly skeptical about Paleo. I used to eat a ton of "healthy grains and legumes". Lots of quinoa, lentils, and beans ( I actually like that stuff). However despite my healthy diet, I was so frustrated that the scale would not budge. I grudgingly gave Paleo a try. The strangest thing happens, after…
  • Since this is just for a weigh in and not for "real" weight loss, personally I would eliminate ALL carbs, I mean every single one. Not one single gram. I would then start on diuretics about a week out from weigh in (but make sure you drink a TON of water with that!). For the day of weigh in would do a water enema to…
  • Check with your doctor (or you can try to check yourself) and see if you have diastasis recti. If that is the case, then only surgery can fix it. MANY women get it after childbirth and no diet or exercise in the world will solve it. I have a very mild case of diastasis recti, but not enough that makes me want to go under…
  • I found that my body has continuiously "re-set" my "set point". I was as 180 and for a long time my body seemed happy at 165. Then it was 155 and now I feel like it is not going to be so hard to push down 5 more lbs to my goal of 140. This ONLY started happening to me when I started intense exercise and varied exercise. I…
  • I'm 5'9" and started a 180 as my peak. My first goal was 155. I got there primarily running and eating better (but not starving myself). At 155 I was not satisfied. I have scaled back my running and tightened up my diet and have added in heavy lifting 3xs a week. I'm down to 145. My goal is 140. I know I can get there if I…
  • I cannot say I do. I have nice muscle definition and the only way it can be seen is for me to lose more fat. I really start to look as fit on the outside as I am on the inside when I lose the fat. Nothing is more frustrating than being able to easily run in a half marathon and still appear fat...that toned fit body just…
  • I'm a runner and I used to be a walker. NO WAY should you run when carrying around a bunch of extra weight. Running is very hard on the body and joints for a thin person, let along someone carrying around 20+ extra pounds. Running will not make you more fit than walking. Running will just build up your endurance. I run…
  • Let me know when you figure it out! I have 8lbs to lose and it is driving me nuts. It is so stubborn! I'm running a half marathon next weekend and I'm convinced this is the problem. After this race, i'm going to ditch the running and focus on Spin classes, some HIIT, and some weight lifting. I think my body is so efficient…
  • I have to agree that running helps tremendously. However, it does boil down to genetics. I only run half marathons, but I've seen thin, very in shape marathon runners with cellulite. It has to do wtih how the fat attaches to the skin and gets worse with age.
  • YES! Or else I would be starving. Like others though, I think MFP over estimates the calories burned. So, if I run for 40 minuets at a 9MPH pace, I put it in MFP at a 10MPH pace, so that calories burned are lower.
  • I saw how much weight you have lost and clicked into your blog and HOLY CRAP! I'm going to believe what you say. You know what you are doing when is comes to weight loss. You are amazing!
  • Maybe you can put something inside the door (like tape the part that locks) while you are going up and down. Or you could just walk them twice and go out the bottom and elevator back to your floor. Seriously, give it some time and if you do this, your body will be very happy.
  • If you have a desk job that keeps you on your butt for 8 hours a day, plus a commute, you are sedentary. Period. The End. I have a desk job and I'm an avid runner, packing on big miles for an upcomming marathon in less than 2 weeks. I am sedentary. I might hit over 10,000 steps a day running and have my HR up for nearly 2…
  • There have been a ton of studies recently highlighting the horrific effect a desk job has on your cardiovascular health and metabolism DESPITE a clean diet and exercise, or even weight. Humans are not meant to be sitting all day and driving in cars all morning and night. I think for those of us with desk job, this is by…
  • Weight loss is about the marathon not the Sprint. You will gain it all back if your approach is not sustainable. I'm a daily runner. On days I run I eat more. Food is fuel. I eat until I'm almost full. Maybe that means I eat back all my calories maybe that means I eat back half. Some days I'm more hungry than others, but I…
  • OH YES!!! Mine has nothing to do with exercise because I exercise pretty consistently on a daily basis. One day I was shocked that I ended the day at under 1200 calories. I was not hungry, not bothered at all by the low calories. Then I will have a day that I'm still hungry after eating over 2000 cal. For me, I think it is…
  • SW 153#s 5'9" 5 Weeks later (today), I'm at 147#s I go only by the scale, no measurements because I already work out, so I'm pretty fit, I just need that last layer of fat to come off.
  • I was a runner who "could not lose" and even gained weight when training for a marathon. I also ate extremely healthy (grass fed meats, loads of veggies, beans, naked nuts, and whole grains such as quinoa, brown rice, and steel cut oats) however, what MFP taught me is that I ate way too much of it all. What happened is…
  • Me too! I've only been on MFP for 5 weeks, but the first three weeks a discouraging NOTHING. Then in the last 2 weeks 6lbs. It averages to a healthy 1lb a week, but it is so strange the way it is coming off.
  • I've gained weight training for a marathon. This is because if left unchecked, running makes me want to eat constantly. All i crave is pasta and heavy heavy meals. I know pleanty of marathon runners who are quite overweight. However, I have luckily learned how to curb my hunger after runs and my body has adapted nicely. I…
  • I'm 5'9' and my starting weight was 153lbs, my goal is 140lbs-i have two children and am 35yrs old. I've been at this exactly 5 weeks and I'm down to 147, so that is a loss of a little over 1lb a week. I get about 1460 calories a day and I exercise daily, buying myself an extra 400-700cal/day. I too like to stay under my…
