  • Awesome! That is great progress. I would love to be at a 10 minute mile some day! Keep it up!
  • Love those NSV's!
  • What a great NSV! Congrats!
  • Feel free to add me. Love having new MFP friends who support each other!
  • Haven't come anywhere close to 75 lbs, but what has worked for me is to look at old pictures when I feel like I'm not making any progress. Set small goals - mine can be either as low as 4 lbs (1 month) or completing 2 weeks of the C25k program. And a new piece of clothing every once in a while is also a great motivator.…
  • Congrats! I'm in the same boat as you. I finished C25k at the end of December and also do 14 minute miles. My new goal is to try to reduce this in the next 3 months, so I've started over on C25k and set a goal that the running parts have to be at least a 11:00 min mile pace. I've only done the first week so far...but have…
  • C25k all the way. I was like you when I started last summer. It took me 2 weeks to be able to get through the 1st week of running 1 minute at a time. I finished C25k in December and walked/ran a 5k at midnight on January 1. Starting the new year off right! Running is still hard for me, and I'm extremely slow, but I just…
  • I bought mine (Polar FT4) at Academy. It was about $90. Well worth it! I've had it for over a year with no issues at all.
  • eyes. And you look very friendly
  • Started this summer barely able to do 30 seconds...and this week I ran 3.5 miles non stop!
  • Polar Ft4. I have one and LOVE it. I just use it for heart rate and determining calories burned, and it does it great. Much cheaper than others with more options. Have had mine for over 2 years and use it almost every day!
  • I've got a Polar Ft4 and LOVE it. don't really even notice the chest strap. I've had it for 2 years and the battery just went out a few months ago. Bought a battery online and changed it out myself, and it's good as new. Plan on using this for a very long time. You can get some good deals on Amazon.
  • I've been trying it. I'm am definitely not a runner - took me 2 weeks to do week 1!! Now I'm in the middle of week 4. I do find that I'm learning to really like it, and I get sad/mad when schedule changes cause me to not be able to fit it in. Good luck!
  • Thanks. I'll try to find it. Any other tips?
  • We have a Vison Ellpitical that we bought about 10 yrs ago. Don't know if they make them any more, but you might be able to find one on Craigs list. It is extremely sturdy and durable - works great despite 10 yrs of use (sometimes as a clothes hanger. :) )
  • I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few months ago, and I was told by my dr that hypothyroidism makes it extremely difficult to lose weight - usually causing the person to gain it despite doing the right things (if left untreated).
  • I got mine at Academy, but I bet they would have it at almost any sporting goods store. You can also buy them online.
  • LOVE my Polar FT4. It has a chest strap, so it's pretty accurate. Easy to read and get started. LOVE IT.
  • LOVE my Polar FT4. Super easy to use. I just wore out the battery after 1.5 yrs. Afraid I was going to have to buy a new one, but I was able to buy a new battery and o-ring, and it works good as new. Would definitely buy this again.
  • Go to the doctor and ask to get your thyroid checked. I was having similar problems as you. Turns out my thyroid wasn't working, which was causing me a whole host of problems, including not being able to lose any weight despite doing the right things. My first 2 months after treating my thryoid, I lost 10 lbs doing…
  • One of my favorites is crockpot chicken tacos. Put frozen chicken breasts into a crockpot, pour a jar of salsa and black beans on top and cook on low for 6-8 hours (or on high for 3-4 hours). When it's done, the chicken will easily shred with a fork. It's very flavorful and filling! I add lots of veggies (usually sauteed…
  • I also have the Polar FT4, and I LOVE it. It really helps motivate me to step up my workout.
  • When I got my HRM, I found the machines were over twice the calorie burn than my HRM readout (and that was after I put in my age and weight). I don't trust them either.
  • I'm in the same boat - even a little larger than you. I bought an elliptical for my house and started with that. I put a fan right in front of my face, cranked the AC and had the ceiling fan on, too. I changed up my routine (using the arms going forward, no arms, going backward) every couple of minutes to break it up. I…
  • I agree with a previous poster - get checked for sleep apnea! That could dramatically change your energy levels. Have you ever tried doing swimming or water aerobics? No pain on the joints, which would probably help your legs/hips. Good luck and keep at it!
  • I actually have done it as an addition to tomato sauce, and it works really well. I've heard of others adding it to smoothies as well. The other stronger flavors mask the taste. It's the only way I'm able to get my son to eat spinach and carrots!
  • My favorites are asparagus and sauteed spinach with lemon. I have a great easy recipe for asparagus: boil asparagus in a pot for 2-3 minutes and then blanche. In a skillet, cook about 1/2 cup grape tomatoes (halved) with some fresh minced garlic and a little olive oil for about 5 minutes. Add some basalmic vinegar (to…
