  • You can do it! I did so anyone can. Just be honest with yourself and remember you're doing this for you.
  • Yep! This, right here! I'm definitely in the 'I hate running' boat but......... that being said, I run two 10k's a week at roughly 5:30/km. Why???? It seems to have the most impact on weight loss/maintaining FOR ME.
  • Nice work!!! I'm 6ft too, started just a month and a half after you. Found it interesting that we both progressed at roughly the same rate. Started at 315 and am now 210. Good points at the end there.
  • Just in case you haven't figured out the consensus.......hell yes!
  • Congrats!!!! Ran my first 10k on the 27th too. Actually, first race ever. No beer truck at ours though. :(
  • Hamilton/Stoney Creek.
  • We had.... chicken, feta, green olive pizza, chicken wings, deep fried potato wedges and a DIET PEPSI! :) Pretty much every weekend. Eating whatever the F you want while staying in your weekly limit is AWESOME!
  • Congrats! I started in April and could barely complete the 60s jog portions. Ended up repeating the first couple weeks quite a few times. Good luck on Oct 27th. Niagara Falls marathon? I signed up for my first run there too, if it is.
  • I'm sorry if I'm being obtuse but what EXACTLY is a cheat day/meal? If you eat within your cal limit for the day how can you say you "cheated" at all? Do people just mean unhealthy food is "cheating"? My understanding, when I first heard this term, was that you would eat OVER your allotted cal limit and probably over your…
  • I set myself as sedentary --- have an office job. Then i just add my exercise and eat back half or so of the calories. I could go a step or two up from sedentary since I go to karate 5-6 times a week, gym 2-3 times and jog 3-4 times but it seems more accurate since not every day/week is the same --- IMHO.
  • from WebMD -- if they're the ones to believe or not, who knows <shrug> ***showing that people who drink artificially sweetened sodas as part of a calorie-restricted diet lose weight. So does Maureen Storey, PhD, who is senior vice president of science policy for the American Beverage Association. “The current body of…
  • Started running at 310lbs three months ago. Bought a pair of brooks ghost 5's (i think 5's) and started C25K. Repeated days of week one and two due to HORRIBLE shin splints and foot pain in general. I mean horrible, couldn't walk, couldn't lift my feet. This was just for the first two C25K weeks. Once the pain stopped and…
  • Awesomesauce! Grats! Just stick with it. Even repeat weeks/days if you want (I did quite a few).
  • Thank you (all) for your replies. I do use the same scale everyday and night. Gym membership starts July 1st. Can't wait to get back into doing the stronglifts routine. I appreciate all comments and am so glad to have found this site. I've tried losing weight before but this seems like the first time the changes to…
  • Was kinda thinking along those lines too but 40+ in just over a month seemed "large". thanks, btw.
  • I'm in (or was in) almost the same as you. Needed to lose 100lbs (currently 270) and in my early 40's. I've been going to karate for 2+ years as well --- which surprisingly hasn't helped with running. When I first started C25K I found i was getting knee pain and HORRIBLE shin splints as well as VERY sore feet. I have…
  • If you're in this to "simply" lose the weight and not to obtain the perfect "model" body type, guy or girl, just keep to the calorie limit and eat responsibly during the day. For most of us, once you start getting too strict with your intake this lifestyle change becomes the dreaded DIET instead. Once that happens, a large…
  • When I first started jogging (first couple weeks of C25K) I would get insane shin splints half way thru the routine. Everyone I talked to told me pretty much the same thing --- it's VERY common for beginner runners. From one of my karate instructors --- make sure you stretch your calf muscles plenty after all workouts to…
  • not crazy per se but i've been enjoying this for a while now. large bowl a couple cups of baby spinach 1 can boneless skinless salmon 1 diced apple 1/3 cup dried unsweetened cranberries (or less) 1/3 cup pecan pieces (or less) 1-2 tblsp raspberry vinaigrette dressing --- can't remember the brand low cal low, 1 tbsp = 20cal
  • PC Blue Menu Smoothie Fudge Dessert Bars - more or less a fudgsicle. 80cal. ;) sigh, just noticed the 'don't suggest anything sweet' part.
  • For myself the most difficult part of this lifelong journey will be the food part. I don't consider myself physically lazy. I go to 4-6 karate lessons a week and come home completely soaked from sweating. A good chunk of my day is spent getting the kids ready for school, work, picking them up, getting dinner ready, helping…
  • My profile is set to sedentary as I have a desk job Monday to Friday. I'm also close to 300lbs (hopefully not for much longer). Getting food ready or housework, that my wife and I split, isn't enough to be considered extra work (imo) since it's a daily/usual non-strenuous thing. However, when I shoveled 2 yards of soil to…
  • Had it for half a year. I make myself and the kids one for breakfast every morning (we let them have cereal on weekends tho :)). I personally think it's awesome --- even though i'm on my second one. Our first one only lasted 3 months before it started leaking through the blade shaft. Returned it no prob and grabbed…
