  • Well I work all day and sleep at night - but I still have exactly the same amount of hours in as you do in my day to exercise. Sometimes I exercise before work, and sometimes I do it after work. I get up earlier or go to bed later, or don't go out. Sometimes I don't do it at all during the week and then go like fun at the…
  • last night I stayed up late (i was bone tired) and made a beetroot, feta, cous cous and herb salad with toasted seeds to bring in today which brought my lunch in at under 500 cals. When all I really wanted to do was get curry for lunch. It's a teeny tiny little thing. But the little things add up to big things.
  • Yes! Yes! And Yes again! If this weight-loss process has taught me anything its if your strategy is working for you stick to it, and if it isn't change it. I've moved to a tropical country - the carbload is insane, the ability to exercise is limited so what worked for me in a northern hemisphere country in the cold with…
  • I want to say thank you for everyone who has taken the time to reply. You have all given me food for thought...ha ha ha. I think the fact is there isn't a 'right' answer. We're all different. But I know it's time to start figuring it out mindful of being healthy, fit and strong.
  • I eat back half. MFP is notoriously over generous with calorie allowance but I've done OK just logging half....In fact I predominantly exercise so I can eat more (although it makes me feel good and is good for me yada yada ya). But you have to put fuel in your engine otherwise you aren't going to go anywhere.
  • Good for you! You are totally right; take it slow and steady and hang on in there - don't beat yourself up if you go off track every now and again just get right back on it. It'll happen. Good luck.
  • Good luck with your surgery! I just want to let you know I remember one of your first posts about the joy of rediscovering water. It really touched me, and I still think about it now. I'm across the pond and we'll never meet but you and your achievements have stayed with me and inspired me. All the best to you and your…
  • My friend that is a great story! Well done you.
  • Well done! I have a similar thing going on - I know they aren't really 'abs' I call them my 'fl-abs' ....but it motivates me to see them because I know that means positive changes are happening in my body. I hope the changes you are seeing motivate you too.
  • Thank you for sharing - it's so true. Just slow and steady, no drama and keep on plodding on. It's boring but it's the truth. Keep on going my friend.
  • Thanks team MFP! I appreciate your words of encouragement and support, really I do.
  • I have had a super sh* day as well (week actually) so just want to say there's someone the other side of the pond who knows what a PITA life sometimes is. Hang on in there.
  • Thank you. I'm in the middle of a stall (well I hope it's the middle and it's going to end soon!). I've been thinking about jacking it in, or upping calories, or just going into maintenance because maybe this is where I'm 'meant' to be. But having read your post I'm not. I'm going to carry on because like you, I don't…
  • As someone who has had personal experience of a sister with anorexia I would urge you to do what everyone else has said - seek help from a medical professional. You don't even have to talk to them. Print out what you have posted on here and give it to them if you find it easier. If you are anorexic you will need to look…
  • That's what I needed to hear! Thanks for pointing me in that direction. (and yes I eat my exercise calories - I'd fade away otherwise...)
  • Thank you for taking the time to respond! You sound like me - for some reason at a couple more hundred calories a day I could exercise all I want and feel satisfied from the food I ate, losing weight and it was all rosy and then BOOM - just the 'hanger' all the time. Of course you are right - find a happy medium, keep…
  • I do this all the time! I work in a weekly 'block' and allocate my calories to make sure I don't go (well most of the time) over my calories. This week I spent four hours working off a fabulous Saturday night of oysters, cheese and red wine I don't regret for a second. I feel in control of what I eat, it allows me to go…
  • They day I realised I wasn't the only girl who suffered from chub rub (when bigger and smaller) was one of the happiest days of my life. Seriously. When I was 15 it was my secret shame. I thought I was the only person in the world that had it. Reading posts like all of yours makes me happy because I think whatever our…
  • thank you for your replies. The support I get on here (even though I'm a lurker rather than a poster) is amazing. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to respond. Thank you.
  • I'm not qualified to answer that. But I do know this that weight loss = calories in vs calories out. The slower it comes off the better and more likely it is you will keep it off (initial large drops are for people who have substantial weight to lose or water weight). I don't know the reasons behind way you eat how you do.…
  • I'm no expert but re-read your post title I've lost "no inches!.... Yes you have. You've lost nearly 5 inches (12.5cm). Bearing in mind weight fluctuates, and water weight accounts for some (which could account for some of the weighttloss) I don't think losing 5" is at all bad going for two months. Hang in there eating…
  • People at work ask me, "Do you go to the gym a lot?" and I just mumble something, when, in actual fact, I should be like, YES, YES I BLOODY DO! This. But maybe that is because I'm English and it goes against my DNA!
  • Thank you for taking the time to answer. I definitely do not starve myself (i do love my food) - I just tend to save all my exercise calories for a special event like a birthday (once a year!), wedding (not as many times a year) and holiday (I wish more than 1 a year).
  • If you are weird then I am too. Your post (s) struck a chord with me. I am within about 10 lbs of where I want to be (and where I think I can maintain sensibly and happily) and I've started to think about how to transition to maintenance. I plan on doing exactly what you've done. I have a family history of EDs and I want…
  • I did..... First day after turning 33 I did my first, second and third and up to fifteen 'proper'' push up. Two months ago I could only dream. It's the best birthday present I gave myself. So go for it!! I did a lot of strength training (using the Trax system or whatever it is called) and a lot of planks. Good luck with…
  • Honestly....having shopped at them all we've settled on the Waitrose Essential range as best choice and VFM and I include in that veg (including tinned toms), fruit (bags of their essential range frozen fruit make a mean fruit smoothies), protein (fish, cheese and I don't eat meat so not sure how I would feel about that)…
  • Orange juice!! It's oranges. It's juice. It's really not worth it. Which is quite sad really because I love it. I used to drink loads of it and I had no idea I was wasting 300 + a day on it.
  • Thank you everyone for all your wise words and encouragement - it is indeed a marathon not a sprint!
  • Thank you for your replies....panic over! I guess I ought to be thankful while the going is good and be prepared to grit my teeth and keep on going when it gets more difficult. Appreciate the time you've taken to respond.
