  • If you do anything other than eating it straight out of the jar with a spoon, then you've already lost me ;)
  • This is more like what I was looking for, thank you!
  • I'm getting a lot of responses saying "Oh, noting you for future lack of weight loss" etc. I am asking for actual information regarding the science behind people claiming that your metabolism will just CHANGE if you eat too little from day-to-day. I'm not positing a weight-loss technique. I'm getting a lot of replies…
  • This highlights my issue particularly well. You need to eat less than the amount of energy you use every day, because the point of losing weight is that you are trying to use up some of the energy which you have stored as fat. What is the mechanism for this? Your body remembering things? See, when I had my appendix…
  • Oddly, I have only ever lost hair when hyperthyroid. I am hypothyroid now, because my thyroid was killed by two heavy doses of radioactive iodine. I did not know you could kill your thyroid by not eating enough. You should go to a doctor. They will prescribe you some thyroxine and you will be able to manage your symptoms.
  • Ok, reading everyone's responses, I am getting a general feeling that yes, after you do not eat for a very long time, you will go into "starvation mode", which is what I thought in the first place. I still do not understand why, however, people consistently post that it is VITAL that people go to bed having hit their…

  • About 3 litres per day, I think.

  • I know people with worse diets. I reckon a healthy (as in non-diebetic, no thyroid problems, no IBS etc) teenager could live very well off this for a while without too much trouble. Biggest problem I can see is that you'd be taking in too many of your calories through sugar and flour, which would eventually catch up on…
  • I'm vegetarian, and have been for a few years now. I eat quorn, soy, a little cheese, beans, peas, lentils etc for protein, and lots of vegetables and rice. Breakfast for me - favorites are poached eggs, or omelet. Lunch- avocados are amazing, and filled with good fat, vitamins and fibre etc, to make your skin beautiful.…
  • P.s. taking more thyroid hormone doesn't make you lose weight all of a sudden, either. It can with some people, but for me, I have just been getting more and more overweight. You need a better doctor, who can tell you how to manage your problems effectively. It's sad that thyroid diseases are largely treated as though they…
  • Hi, I definitely think that you need to speak to another doctor, as this one sounds patronizing and mean. He's right that taking more thyroid hormone is not a good idea though. I have been accidentally taking too much for a while, and you have no idea how horrible it is. I feel as though I am going mad, I cannot keep…
  • I'm 5'3" 146.6, full time job, 23 yrs old, feel free to add me!
  • It isn't. My MBR is 1479 and I work in an office job (sitting down for 10 hours straight).

  • So this plan relies on you doing the same level of activity week-in, week-out and does not reward you for doing more?! That's terrible. I think I will move off from doing this and back to the MFP normal "only eat 1200 calories, but add extra if you exercise" plan. That seems like a more reliable measure of how much you…

  • So I should eat 1400 calories everyday whether I do nothing or walk 6 miles?

  • I've set my TDEE at a level for 'sedentary', because I do not do a set level of exercise from day to day, or from week to week. I can go a week without doing any exercise, or do 90 minutes of walking every day and even more on the weekend on other weeks. So I set it at sedentary, then add the exercise on top of that. Does…

  • I went to the theater he day before yesterday and smuggled in a bottle of diet pepsi, a 95 calorie bag of crisps, a cereal bar and a very small pack of chewy sweets... shared some with my boyfriend and it ended up at something like 250 cals for the trip, which isn't so bad.
  • You should try walking. It's good fun if you listen to some music, and a half hour walk can make a big difference. I'm not very active, and can't afford a gym membership or anything like that, but I find it easy to fit walking into my day.
  • I'm 5'3", my GW is 126, although I got to 122 last time I dieted and I still wasn't very happy with the way I looked.
  • Salted Peanuts. Pizza. Beer.
  • I do between 45 and 90 minutes of walking most days, and add this to my calculator (an extra 160 - 320 calories), and will eat extra to make up for it, but the rest of the time I am sitting in an office or at home.
  • Ah, that puts me at 1428. That's much more reasonable! Thank you:)
  • Maybe she was born with that feature, what do you know about her? I personally don't have a thigh gap when I'm a size 12 (UK size), but do when I am a size 10, when my legs look more muscular and slimmer, so it seems like a reasonable, healthy goal.
  • It's absolutely bizarre how many people have a problem with this. Since when does everyone get to judge what people are aiming for? How many of you are working really hard for a flat stomach, or big arm muscles? Not everyone has the same subjective opinion of what looks fit or beautiful! I know personally that as I lose…
  • Between size 14 and 10, I usually lose a size for every 12 lbs. I'm 5' 3", which I think makes a different.
  • I'm on 1200... basically because I am short (so need fewer calories than a tall person), and have a low level of activity in the day (so need fewer calories than an active person). That said, with some exercise, I actually end up being able to eat 1600, which is plenty.
