  • Have you adjusted your calorie down as you've lost weight? I know I have to manually go into my MFP settings and reset my goals to get it adjust after losing weight. As you weigh less, your body needs less so your calorie count should be steadily going down from when you first started. If you've stalled it means you've…
  • For all you trying to school the OP on CICO theory...I know you just want to preach your "truth", but many people who eat low carb find that they are more satiated (and thus eat less naturally) than if they ate a higher carb or traditional balanced diet. What works for you, may not work for everyone. Yes, its CICO, but you…
  • Its not motivation at all, its a lifestyle and habit change. Its not easy, but once you retrain your brain that eating a certain is "normal", it becomes much easier.
  • Actually, yeah, some are saying those "woo" methods don't work. They are demanding for peer reviewed research etc. My response was for those folks, clearly not for your if you believe that holistic, non-traditional treatments have value. And yes, my Harvard trained, board certified doctor uses those "woo" methods to treat…
  • Its all "woo" until you yourself suffer from one of those conditions and using holistic nutrition and supplements have given you back your health. I had what three traditional gastroenterologists called moderate to severe IBS, I was told there was nothing I could do about it other than take an antispasmodic and just cope.…
  • Avoid high amounts of salt and cut back on carbs. Unless you have a medical condition, water "weight" should be the least of any person's concern.
  • I looked at the normal BMI for my height and decided to set my first goal to the upper end of that so I would be out of the "overweight" category. I am about 10 lbs away from that and feel like I would like to lose more than that, so I have readjusted my goal. In my head I am thinking getting down to single digit clothing…
  • Dairy isn't bad. But a lot of people have a dairy intolerance (either due to lactose or casein). This could be the case for you. Simply cut out all dairy for at minimum a couple days and see how you feel.
  • They are calorie dense for the NUTRITION and satiety that they provide. I am no way saying a no carb/no sugar diet is the only way to lose weight. I am saying, in my opinion and from my own experience in the last year and the experience of those I know who also eat this way (limited carbs--not true keto, but low carb, less…
  • Breakfast: Low carb almond/flax bread w/Teddy crunchy peanut butter, ginger green tea Lunch: Turkey & cheese lettuce wraps, granny smith apple & peanut butter Dinner: Baked haddock, mashed winter squash, zucchini Snacks/Dessert: pistachios, 1/2 pink grapefruit, 2 Keto Double Chocolate cookies
  • People are eating more processed, boxed, packaged foods, not to mention eating out more than ever. Yes, sugar and grains are super calorie dense in comparison to the nutrition they provide. Cut out sugar and grains and I wonder how hard it would be to stick to staying under your deficit (or maintenance if you are at that…
  • If you choose to follow a true keto diet, I would swap out the whole milk for cream or half & half, milk has too many carbs/sugar. And for those that are asking why she is choosing keto, that isn't the point of the post.
  • You can certainly lose weight while pregnant, its perfectly safe as long as you are getting proper nutrition. First talk to your doctor and get the okay. Then start a plan to have a diet of whole foods (not processed from a box/package) that provide the most bang for your buck nutrition wise. The baby will take the…
  • I've lot 60 lbs in the last year with a lower carb diet, which consisted of 1-2 serving of nuts per day. You just have to work the calories into your food plan. Unless you have medical issue that requires you to restrict fat intake, I wouldn't worry about the fat in nuts at all.
  • So what is your question? If you are trying to figure out how many calories to eat based upon your lessened activity level, we'd need more info...
  • Yes, you can, but would you want to? Do some research on what cooking in the microwave does to the nutrients of any food.

  • There are a studies that show it is effective, but not in normal everyday sprinkle it on your food dosage...you have to take supplements that are extracts and condensed. Also look into collagen supplements or chaga mushroom extract for helping with inflammation.
  • Sure its techinically ok (if you are a female, little to no activity), but is it sustainable for you personally?? That's the main concern, if you burn yourself out on your "diet" it doesn't help you. Slow and steady should be the pace for weight loss, at sustainable levels of calories and activity level until you learn…
  • That's great! Cutting out sugar for health/wellness reasons is smart (but also hard to do, everything has sugar in it now!). I am going to wait for for the posts on your thread from people who like to hear themselves talk and say cutting sugar isn't necessary for weight loss, its CICO etc. There is always someone who takes…
  • You need to replace the habit of snacking at night with something else...take up knitting, chew gum instead of snacking, exercise, read, etc. Its about changing your habits and changing your lifestyle.
  • I have been on a version of the AIP diet for almost a year. Still having issues so just had a mediator release food sensitivity test and have had to eliminate even more foods from already restricted diet. I am not going to lie, it sucks and its hard, especially traveling. I do feel somewhat better, but feel that as one…
  • Swimming or biking is generally low impact and with the right intensity level you can burn a lot of calories. If you aren't ready for running, try hiking, it burns just as many if not more calories per hour as running and may not be as high impact on your back in this situation.
  • I'd considered a daily target of 50 net carbs (carb grams minus fiber grams) or less low carb. If you are talking about ketogenic diet, which is ultra low carb, that's much lower, in the neighborhood of 20 grams or less total carbs. When counting carbs, you count them all, including those that some consider "good" carbs.…
  • I have suffered from GI problems for over 10 years after getting severe food poisoning (thanks Ruby Tuesday salad bar!). Don't ignore your doctor's suggestions, because the longer it goes on the more inflammation in your gut will occur and its really hard to heal it. Don't be afraid of probiotics, yes, you may notice some…
  • Yes, and add foods that are considered junk or only allow a certain % of the monthly benefits to "junk" food. Its not anything different than what has already been done to the school lunch program, which is subsidized by the federal government. We shouldn't have to pay for people to eat unhealthy foods and again pay for…
  • How are you figuring how many calories you are burning while exercising? I'd be leery about eating back anything more than half of what you estimate your calorie burn because MFP and other devices tend to over estimate the burn. Starvation mode is a myth...yes you can mess with your metabolism if you suddenly have a huge…
  • I know several friends who had PCOS and got it under control or it disappeared by being a special diet. Now before all the anti-low carbers attack me, use your self control and keep your mouth shut. They found that being on a low carb diet, they were able to stabilize the issues they were having with fertility and weight…

  • My doctor said everyone should take a multi-vitamin daily. Our food supply and soil is so depleted of nutrients, even if you eat whole foods, nothing packaged, you still could be lacking certain vitamins and minerals. I personally recommend Rainbow Lights womens multi vitamin.
  • 5'8" 1st pic: 235 lbs 2nd pic: 185 lbs Took about 10 months, no exercise, just changed eating habits. In the last month I started exercising and hope to continue to lose another 20 lbs before reaching my upper end goal weight and might continue on losing if I still need to lose more body fat.
  • Depending on what your fitness level depends on what would be recommended. If you are truly just starting out from couch potato phase (no judgment---we've all been there!), I would try out Chris Powell's Extreme Weight Loss Edition: The Workout. It has three different workouts that gradually build you up in intensity and…
