  • When checking CRP for arthritic and autoimmune disorders, a level of 10 mg/L or lower is considered "normal." that's good to know. in fact, i think i may have just calmed down. thanks for that. :)
  • my HDL has always been high -- i love peanuts and almonds. unfortunately, my LDL has always been high, too. this diet didn't change my HDL -- but my ratio continues to be acceptable, so no one ever puts me on meds. my hs-crp was 10.2 -- which is crazy high, like "ready the hospital bed, kids! ready. i'm wondering whether…
  • thanks. i was frustrated because there's no way i can be vegetarian and stick to 25 carbs/day, but maybe if i raise my carbs a bit, i can do it. here goes... :)
  • thanks! from the posts, it looks like cheese, cheese, peanut and almond butter, and cheese. and eggs :)
  • thanks, all. was not in the ocean -- was in the potomac river, which had a bit of current happening, but nothing like an ocean current (except when motorboats passed -- eek, the wake!) i'll assume maybe half of that count. (and i'll also assume i'm going to be taking some motrin -- i can already feel muscles that are not…
  • reading "little bee" by chris cleave. i am loving it. when i am not doing that, i am writing query letters for my novel. i am trying to start my career as a writer :)
  • i drink isopure cookies and cream and also their chocolate. i like the cookies and cream better, though admittedly, i doctor it up with cocoa powder from time to time.
  • i left the fitbit group, strangely enough, for two reasons: 1) because my fitbit gave me rashes on my wrist and i had to return it, and 2) because people made me feel like that was somehow my fault. (er, sorry? even after i googled and discovered that some users have actually had the same problem!) yeah. i hear you. as…
  • thanks, all. i guess in the end, the scale may not move as quickly as i would like it to, but it *is* moving, albeit at a snail's pace. my expectations were probably too high -- i have a lot of weight to lose, and i guess i would start off with a serious whoosh. but i know things are changing -- and i am changing, too.

  • well, i do count total carbs in my diary -- and those are usually 30-50 depending on the day. i just know my goal is net carbs, so i just do the math :-) what is "net carbs done poorly"? do you mean eating certain foods (like dairy, for example)? or something else? (asking seriously, as i am trying to figure this out. :-)

  • i am counting calories. most days, i stay below 1500. i know i have to because snacking is my downfall and i could eat all my calories snacking if left to my own devices ;-)

  • thanks, all. definitely food for thought!
  • Thanks :) I am just trying to get ideas, since I have been just cruising along with my multi, my probiotic, and my BP meds.
  • it's pretty common to get sick a lot when you have young kids. they are like walking petri dishes. that being said, if you find you get sinus/throat/upper respiratory infections a lot (like, say you need antibiotics like 4 times a year or more), you might consider getting a blood test to check your immunoglobulin levels.…
  • can't wait to try that, arete -- i am a huge fan of the nutella mug cake recipe i found online and have missed it since going LC. will definitely give this a try. thanks for sharing.
  • knit, i, too, tried it today. i was so hungry, i ate it with a little heavy cream poured on top (my nutribullet needs to get washed and i am l a z y right now.) it was, er, not fab. very dry (hence, the heavy cream.) in fact, i made the mistake of answering the phone right after taking a bite and i nearly choked on it. ah…
  • i have something called common variable immunodeficiency, so i have to have blood drawn every six months to see whether i will still be annoying people for at least the next six months ;-) i had my blood drawn this week. while my immunoglobulins remain in the toilet (no surprise there), i did have two surprises. 1) after 5…
  • Rash as in skin breaking out, or "rash" as in rubbing irritation? If the latter, then you might have had it on wrong. It's supposed to be fairly loose and able to move freely. If it's too tight, the silicone will rub too much and cause problems. I run into this a little bit, since I'm kind of between two of the notches…
  • i had one but i kept getting a rash on my wrist from it -- and yes, i took it off and cleaned it,etc. i ended up returning it. for years, i used the fitbit one -- and honestly, when i compared the steps, for me, the one was more accurate. but YMMV. hope it works out better for you.
  • wowee wow wow! you are completely inspirational to n00bs like me. you definitely deserve kudos, victory laps, and all the praise! well done :)
  • thanks -- you know, i never wrote down what they were when i started (duh!) so this was a good reminder to put in those measurements! :-)

  • i'm in the same boat. sick of eggs, don't eat pork, not the world's biggest carnivore, and i miss my oatmeal. i use isopure zero carb vanilla protein powder (zero carbs) plus coconut milk (unsweetened) and ice. sometimes, i throw in cocoa powder. it's not bad. good luck! i'm trying to figure out something with tofu to eat…
  • very cool! i wonder how that will work if i mess around with my tried and true spinach dip http://www.hellmanns.com/recipes/detail/9278/3/hellmann-s-creamy-spinach-dip

  • 1) i have eaten less than 10 grams of sugar every day for over 4 weeks. 2) i have not even tried to invade my kids' chocolates and fritos in the cabinet. 3) i have gone to restaurants without ordering things i can not eat. 4) despite the fact that i am wildly discouraged )week 1, lost 6 pounds, week 2, 1 pound, weeks 3 and…

  • thanks for the help, and thanks for not yelling at me for wanting a piece of cake. i know it isn't perfect, but if i can eat a certain number of carbs and it works from a calorie perspective, i'm willing to give it a go :)
  • i'm sorry to hear that. i suffer from CVID, which basically is a condition where your immune system doesn't make enough of the stuff to help you fight infections. there's no cure, but every 4 weeks, i am hooked up to an IV of gammaglobulin (thank you all the people of the world who donate plasma -- you keep people like me…
  • incidentally, for anyone curious, this is the recipe i tried. it was awful, and i mean awful not in a "oh, it tastes like a modified version of chocolate cake for which you might cut some slack" -- it tasted like a hockey puck, and no amount of covering it up with faux choc syrup or whipped cream was worth eating that hot…
  • since i didn't finish the blechy fat bomb i made yesterday (like two nibbles and then out into the trash), i think i will look for ones that are based with cream cheese. if anyone out there has tried and true yummyish ones, let me know. (extra happy if they contain cocoa, lol. i am forever a chocolate addict, no matter…
  • one rec for isopure zero carb protein powder. i have a tub of the vanilla, but i had the cookies and cream before. i think chocolate has 3 carbs per serving, but i have never tasted that so YMMV. caveat: i have always doctored up my protein drinks with cocoa powder. pb2, and other assorted things, so i have never had a…
