  • String cheese, honestly. Beef jerky is also good.
  • I'm doing low carb with a partner who is doing keto. Feel free to add me if you'd like!
  • Well, I guess I'm in the smaller camp - I prefer just eating egg whites, mostly because egg yolks make my stomach ache. I can use them in baking, and very occasionally in cooking when I'm willing to risk the ouch, but otherwise...no thanks.
  • I can understand this - I went through a drop of about 10-15lbs when I started on levothyroxine. The only things that got my numbers to budge at all were switching to Armour (NDT) which works far better for me anyways, and starting to do strength training/weightlifting. Cardio has little to no impact for me.
  • Save space in my calories for a few drinks and know a lot of good non-alcoholic drinks that can be ordered at a bar. If I'm going somewhere private, I tend to just bring a bottle of sparkling water with me. Gets the liquid into my body and no one asks questions.
  • This resonates strongly with me - I cannot get any endo to raise my med levels when my TSH is in the "normal range" despite protestations that the "normal range" still feels cruddy to me. The explanation I've gotten is that they don't want to take the risk of me running hyperthyroid with an increased dosage and me being…
  • Welcome! I don't know much about the hives and heart rate stuff, so I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help there. My advice is to do some research beforehand. My personal font of information about thyroid issues is a site called Stop the Thyroid Madness. They have a couple books out as well, if that's your preferred…
  • Well, the pits contain cyanide, like a lot of other seeds do. It's not a level that is highly toxic to humans, but it is technically still a toxin. Also, as a side note, please keep the seeds and any derivatives of them far away from any non-human animals - there is a fungicidal toxin in them called persin that is…
  • I hope I'm not being presumptuous, but have you considered seeing a therapist to help with reconciling your hypothyroidism with your fear of illness? They may be able to help you with some coping mechanisms at the very least and help you take down the stress level that comes with fear.
  • Let me tell you - I was diagnosed about 5-6 years ago. And let me be realistic - life has not been a walk in the park - but there is plenty of hope. Do your research thoroughly (I recommend Stop the Thyroid Madness - very comprehensive site). Please don't be afraid to advocate for yourself with your doctor - (making an…
  • This is such a realistic perspective on things - I love seeing that! Including the forgiveness part - I know I am on a particular path, but I have to give myself space to deviate occasionally, as long as I know, deep down, that I can get back on the path.
  • I switched from Levo to Armour. I had the levo fizzle (thanks Fuzzipeg for that term) for several years before I did some research and realized that I had options (Stop the Thyroid Madness was one of the key sites). So I switched to Armour a few years back. The key is finding a doctor/endo who is willing to dose based on…
  • I ended up talking to a doctor and she sought out a prior authorization for me for the NDT. So, for 2016, I have covered access to my Armour. I will have to take up the battle again next year, of course, but it's a little weight off my shoulders for now.
  • Being the fast walker in the group when hiking despite having short legs.
  • I upped my dose of my NDT (yeah, without talking to my endo, because no one seems willing to look at symptoms rather than tests and my tests come back "normal"), and I noticed that my seasonal depression is less bad this year and my central body temperature has gone up a bit.
  • I don't know about curls, but I know that I am certainly glad that I caught my thyroid issues early - my mom also is hypothyroid (undertreated, I suspect) and her hair has thinned out, whereas mine is just about as thick as it ever was (a mixed blessing of sorts).
  • This is one of those myths - the chemicals that cause issues with hypothyroid people is almost completely eliminated when the plant is heated past 110 degrees Fahrenheit, so even steaming or blanching will get rid of it.
  • I guess it really matters what works for your energy levels and your schedule. Me, personally, dragging my butt out of bed earlier than the 6:30 I already do is not workable for me, but going on walks during the day and getting into the gym on my way home from work in the evening totally is.
  • If I'm doing a long cardio session - elliptical. If I'm doing cardio as a warm up for weight lifting/strength training - treadmill. If I'm doing it just to get moving that day - walking outside. I'm not quite to the point I love it, so feel free to take my answer with a grain of salt, but I have heard that one of the good…
  • Not super high in protein, but low calories: Light string cheese Light Babybel cheese Laughing Cow cheese (Can you tell I like cheese?) Higher in protein, but also in calories: Egg whites (or whole eggs if you prefer) with chunks of Babybel or some other light cheese Greek yogurt Pre-made protein drink Quinoa muffins (made…
  • I take Armour and it has been far and above a better choice for me than levothyroxine was. I'm not sure what they would mean by dosing issues - conversion is pretty clearly established as both have been around for quite a while. Maybe it is because Armour has both T4 and T3 in it? T3 has a very short half life, so it is…
  • Well, I did get in to see her and she's a bit of a mixed bag. Seems to be okay with including T3 in with T4 only meds (but not a huge fan of Armour). Does seem to believe in open communication between patients and doctors, so we'll see how well this works out.
  • Might also be worth checking out the hyper/hypothyroidism group on here. There are a lot of people on there with theirs removed.
  • They've looked at my scans before and they are relatively inconclusive - what they got from them was "likely Hashimoto's" - I have nodules that shrink and grow semi-randomly - caught them on one ultrasound, gone on the next. Adrenals I haven't had looked at. Blood sugar is doing good - had a fasting test done about three…
  • I usually eat some of them back - some days all, some days none - depends on how hungry I am on that given day and how well my stomach is cooperating with me that day.
  • This is my pet project - I know he can do it regularly and reliably, but I don't know what the resistance is to it this go around....
  • He has specifically asked me for help, just not sure what can be done. I think the gym has just a combination of things he doesn't like - equipment that can aggravate old injuries (doesn't seem interested in finding cardio equipment that wouldn't do that), too many people (anxiety issues), and too much noise (also…
  • 30 minute brisk walk at lunch time during the week (most days) and two days per week of NROLFW (just started last week and am excited!).
  • Yeah - I love it. It's great incentive to get off my butt and log my food and exercise.
  • Mayo Organ meat Most seafood Full fat milk Oysters Cough syrup I've lost the gagging thing I used to have with a lot of foods I can't stand. I have texture issues with a number of foods - even ones that I actually like the flavor of. So weird.
