  • It is hard to put in a lot of effort and see very SLOW progress. But I tell myself it took me years to develop bad habits and will take time to develop good ones. Believe your boyfriend when he compliments you on your efforts! we're all doing this together
  • I feel the same way. I have lost since my 6-7 lb Christmas gain, but the scale isn't moving anymore. However, my clothes fit looser, and my muscles are more defined. I don't have a way to measure my body fat portion of my weight, so it gets discouraging. I have to tell myself that it's not about the scale, but how I feel…
  • Thanks to you all. I think the food logging & making better choices are the key for me. I enjoy working out 5+ times per week using cardio & strength--but at over 40 yrs, that's not enough. I have a sweet tooth and also tend to eat in stressful situations. I think I mentally haven't "turned the corner" on really conquering…
  • These photos & stories are great! good job, everyone! I wonder how these people who've lost 50 lbs in a year (or more) can keep losing without backsliding. I started working out & food logging on MFP in March 2008. I was doing great until my 4 week summer vacation, where I gained back the weight I'd lost. I didn't food log…
  • I'm back on the wagon also! I've kept exercising, but stopped logging food---so i've gained a little bit. Going to log from now on! We'll do it!
  • Just take baby steps each day and don't get discouraged if you don't see big results fast. You are changing your life & way of thinking/eating/living which takes lots of time. Keep going even if you have an off day. Eventually, your clothes will feel looser and your husband will notice the changes in your body! We're all…
  • Don't rule out Fried chicken or pizza! Just don't eat as much and log it in. As soon as you see how little food you get for that many calories, you'll cut back. The beauty of MFP is that you don't have to ban any food--just be honest with yourself and log it in. You'll automatically make changes without feeling deprived.…
  • I agree. It's been a while since I was pregant (my youngest just turned 9), but I noticed that when I exercised while pregnant--doing whatever I could do safely--the whole pregnancy and afterward went better. I know there are guidelines as to how many extra calories you should consume while pregnant (I'm thinking 500 a…
  • Yep! I ate over 300 calories more than I used. I don't feel guity---it was just one day AND I was aware of what I ate! In the past, I'd load up my plate and eat until it was done. This time, I was choosy in what I picked and only ate things I really wanted. I ate a hamburger, potato salad, baked beans, lemon meriangue pie,…
  • Yeah! I love sonic, but once I looked up the info on the "Fat free fruit smoothie" I almost died!! Once in a while I treat myself to a cheese coney or a chicken wrap if I'm feeling noble. I've lost 5 lbs just by cutting back on sonic :(
  • Great Job!! I had a similar breakthrough recently. I woke up at 5:00 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep. I decided to go to the 5:30 a.m. Jazzercise class (though I thought I was crazy). Turns out it was the best thing I could have done that day. I wasn't as tired as I thought I'd be and I didn't have to worry about…
  • HI! I've been using the site for about 3 weeks now and have lost about 4 lbs. I haven't changed what I eat, just how much and I don't feel deprived. If I go over one day, I just try to be a little more careful the next, but I don't obsess. For me, the beauty of the site is being aware of what I'm eating and how much…
  • Hi! Congrats & keep it up! I'm 41 yrs old, 5'10" and weighed 191 lbs over Christmas! I couldn't believe how big I had gotten. I used to be very slim for my height. I haven't had problems with eating disorders, but I just haven't paid attention to what I eat---just assuming I could eat whatever and whenever I wanted. I…
  • Do you feel or see any changes in your body?? My scale doesn't move down, but I can tell a difference in how my body is starting to look and feel. I try to tell myself that I"m doing this for the long haul--not just to lose 25 lbs. Don't give up! If you are exercising and eating right, you are taking care of the gift that…
  • Jump Rope! Get a speed rope (less than $10 at Walmart) and set a timer for 2 minutes. Do 3 sets if you can, if not, just do what you can do. As you get better & faster your cardio goes way up---and it only takes about 10 minutes total. My karate instructor once told me that if you can work up to jumping rope for 10 minutes…

  • I love to snack, too! To satisfy your spicy taste, try celery dipped in salsa---it's really good! I lile cheese & crackers, so I'll set out one serving of each and slowly eat it. I'm usually satisfied with less if I pay attention to what I'm eating.
