  • Ceci, I guess i am kinda lucky then. They have a line of like 20 big flat screens in front of the cardio section. It's one of those big gyms, a regional chain. But it is a new facility(less then 2 years old) so it is fairly nice. Thought about putting a few good videos on my phone. Looking at putting some lectures on…
  • Thanks all! I'll go to 1% on this evenings run. It's just discomfort not debilitating. Very similar thing happened when I started running in C25k. After a week or so it mellowed out. I had chin splints fairly bad one year in high school football, this is much more just soreness not throbbing pain of the shin splints. And I…
  • So my two runs so far this week, I have done indoors on a treadmill. I read somewhere online that running on a flat treadmill gives a false idea of your pace. So I've been putting it on a slight incline. (2.0) to combat that. For some reason the treadmill effects my shins very differently then road running. So getting use…
  • Wow. You guys cover some serious miles. I "finished" week 3 (3x17min runs) on Friday after work. It was rather cold, and I over layered. Got all hot and sweaty so I took off the beanie in the middle of the 3rd leg, that was a mistake, cold air hit my wet head. Within 2 minutes, I was feeling pretty ill. Stomach was…
  • Thanks all for the advice. FtRobbie, Thanks for the kind words, side note even though the pic says "July 2013" It's just the most representative pic I have. I didn't start getting healthy until January 2014, so all of my gains have been done in about 10 months (10 months of hard work, with some highs and lows). Daily Check…
  • @Upsaluki and @Ceci_O_K Thanks a ton, going to read through those articles today. Very excited for it to get my first "Official" time.
  • W3D1 finished last night. 4.9 miles. Keep a nice slow and steady pace. Felt really good after. After each run last week, and week 1, I was "feeling" the length of the 10k program a lot in my legs. Just meaning they were very tired after. After the first week I took leg day out of my weight lifting routine, it was proving…
  • Started Week10(3-15min runs) last night. Planned a new route. Which I never really gave thought to in C25k. It went really well, had to run in the dark thanks to Daylight savings time. Used a small flash light attached to my belt to illuminate the path in front of me. Worked well for the most part. Might need to pick up a…
  • Dealt with the dark yesterday too. Got home from work it was already dark out (5:15pm!) Geared up for my run. Attached a clip on light to my SPI Belt, and let it light the path in front of me. It bounce around a good bit, and then I decided to just hold it in my hand, that worked out pretty well, it's small and light so it…
  • Check out the C25k Group. Lots of good support there, I just finished the C25k Program and moved onto the 10k add on. The group helps a lot with motivation. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/30-couch-to-5k-running-program-c25k Also any one feel free to Friend me.
  • I had the same issue with the GPS on my old phone, (galaxy s3) . But A few weeks ago I upgraded to the Note 4, and love it. It works flawlessly as a new phone should.
  • Just coming over from the C25k group (find these groups were great for accountability). Finished week 1 of 10kTrainer from Zenlabs over the weekend. Clocking about 4.5miles per run. Starting up week 2 tonight. With Daylight savings it will probably be dark by the time I'm done my runs. Not looking forward to that.
  • Finished Week 1 of the 10kTrainer app (ZenLabs) the runs were tough. But doable. Clocking an average of 4.5miles per session. Starting Week 2 tonight. @Upsaluki Congrats that's a good time. Finding the 10k training helping with you 5k times?
  • I would say just give it a try, if you finished the last one (even if difficult) you should be able to get through it. A slow and steady pace, and when things get tough focus on breathing, and form.
  • I have the Strava app, but the Strava samsung watch app doesn't utilize the built in Heart rate monitor. Where the Endomondo one does. Last night was my first run with that app , you get tons of good data too. Here is a screenshot of the data after the run, (2 screens) This is with the warmup/cooldown/1 min walks in the…
  • C25k 10kTrainer: W1D2 Done last night. These longer runs are tough for sure, but very much worthwhile. 4.5 miles in the books. Keep up all the good work people. I am going to keep posting my updates. Hoping that the people struggling in the early weeks realize that it is very possible to complete this program! I struggled…
  • I use a one of the fancy smart watches (Samsung gear 2 neo) You need to have a Samsung smart phone to use it though. I use it mainly to track my heart rate and distance, with MapMyFitness running on my phone too, since that will track the gps. I am going to give the Endomondo app on it a go tonight, it will eliminate the…
  • Side note... as a still big guy it's nice to see MapMyRun, and my HRM both reading over a 1000 calorie burn.
  • W9D1 (10k add on) in the books. It was tough, but manageable. Clocked 4.2 miles. My biggest issue is finding a route to run. I get bored with my normal loops around the community. Yesterday I went a different route, while it was pretty nice. The hills on the way back were killer. I guess that's a bonus. Tomorrow with day…
  • I don't know about cycling. I just wanted to say nice work on the fitness test. With effort it's amazing how much we can change in a small amount of time.
  • Going to start the 10k add-on tonight. Ran 3 times last week on my own. To be honest, I miss the "guided" program part.
  • Since I finished last Saturday just been doing 5k distances on the road. Yesterday got rained out too, and decided to do my run on a treadmill at the gym. It was crazy different. It was actually tougher, I did the 3.2 miles, but i struggled to find a comfortable pace, and found that going faster seemed easier on the legs.…
  • @cdwyer74 I missed two workouts do to vacation, Where I did no running, so I repeated the work out before just to have a fresh start. Since you just ran a Half, I would say just go into your next scheduled day of the program.
  • Finished the program over the weekend. It was a really proud moment for me. I was recalling back to the first week when I was thinking that it was tough to get through the 1 min of jogging at the end of the first day. It feels good. It's proof the program works if you work the program. On my last day I ran almost a…
  • W5D3 was the biggest hurdle (mentally), and the biggest confidence booster for me! I've had tougher runs since, but that was the turning point.
  • As noted by a few. Distance does not matter so much at this point it's more about creating the stamina to handle the distance that you are running. Having said that... I get caught up in distance a lot as well. My week 1 distances were about 1.75-1.8 from start of warm up to end of cool down. So that is fairly normal. Here…
  • @nutmegzz Let us know how you did, and welcome to the group. Feel free to add me.
  • @mamagab92 , I'd say a treadmill actually hurts you, yeah you can do it and it works. But you don't want to do it really. If you've been running outdoors, stay with it, a treadmill is super easy and doesn't give you the same challenge as running outdoors. @upsaluki Good Idea. I know there are some local Halloween Runs, and…
  • Finished Week 7 Day 3 on Sunday, went well, my pace was good, I felt a bit sluggish around the half way point, I chalk this up to not having any fuel in me (food) . Starting Week 8D1 this evening, after work assuming there isn't any rain. If there is I will start it tomorrow morning. Will be sure to fuel up before hand.…
  • @Upsaluki hope you are healed up. W7D2 All done. 25 minute run, covered exactly 2.5 miles. Near the end I was felling like I was done, then when the cool down came, after about 30 seconds of walking, I felt I could have kept running, and I was clearly just whining to myself at the end of the run. One more day then into the…
