I wouldn't say that settling on a half marathon is selling yourself short... A marathon can be really dangerous for you if you haven't been running long enough. It's never a question of whether a person can run 26.2 miles after only 7 months of training, it's a matter of whether a person can do so healthily while…

I would recommend doing a half marathon in the spring, and then aiming for a marathon next fall. The main reason to give yourself a year of running is to limit the amount of damage you do to your body. It's not that you can't physically do it. You not only greatly increase your risk of injury, but you can also damage your…

I'm training for my first half marathon in January, and would like to do one eventually (my husband has run two so far, and is already slated to run two more within a year). I'd recommend checking this out about deciding whether you are ready: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-244-255-13763-0,00.html You…

I've been going since April 2010, but really started to notice changes when I began going 5+ times a week in April 2011. In order to really see a difference, frequency and focus on correct form are important. Many people that go do not go frequently enough to really gain the benefits from the yoga. If you can get a hold of…

Yeah I was thinking the same. I'm assuming there's a typo or error in the post?

Curious about this as well...

HRMs are definitely not to be used to measure calories outside of workouts. They are not accurate in trying to measure your daily calorie "burn", and you should get a BodyBugg or something like that if that's what you're looking for.

I bought my fiance a Garmin Forerunner and he LOVES it. He's an avid runner and has done several marathons, and has found it's great for his training.
-
My fiance has a Garmin Forerunner which has a GPS to track distance, so I just go by that when we run together. Otherwise, I use mapmyrun.com to plan out my routes and track the distance.

Getting married in July and can't wait :D

I'm approaching that point, too - would love any pointers...
-
Love to hear any tips as well...

I hurt my elbow in kickboxing the other day so I have bad this week :( Only managed to get one day of Ripped in... I'm still doing my Bikram Yoga, and I'm hoping to get back on the train next week. Proud of the rest of you!

When I was 14 one of my closest friends made a joke about my "thunder thighs". Not really a great thing to hear at such a self-conscious time.

Going to check this out later...

Just did Day 1 of Week 1! Late I know :p
-
Great tip!

I'm going to do my workout tonight - got in late last night after flying back from Boston! Also, I think I might wait until Wednesday to do measurements & weight because I'm sure I'm retaining enough water to fill a kiddie pool (exaggeration.. but still!)

I love crunchy things... so here are someI like: Terra Sweets & Beets chips (10mg per serving) 100-calories Almond packs (something like 25 mg)

I know what major difference is that static postures are held (as you push yourself deeper into the posture) which elevates heartrate since holding steady is harder than moving in and out of a posture.

There's a lot of debate on this topic. I wore my HRM to my class last night and it said I burned 737 calories. I kept an eye on my heart rate, and was pleased to see I was "in the zone" pretty much the entire class. People will say it's yoga and you rest a lot, so it's not as much of a burn. But Bikram Yoga is more like…

I was looking at these.. and then my coworkers made fun of me.

I definitely do something like that now - but my plan is to set it as a longer term goal to aspire to! Everyone I talk to about it thinks it looks too scary :( Anyone here willing to try???
-
It's crazy that you wrote this tonight because I was thinking about this exact same thing after one of my workouts today. Plus I'm sure pregnancy will be easier when I'm fit! Good luck with your journey :)

I'm going to read Eat Stop Eat - I think this would be more manageable with my lifestyle than Fast-5 or something. We'll see how it goes...

Great article.

I noticed a huge difference even after 7 days of doing it consistently... I lost about 8 or 9 lb on here in March, but wasn't really exercising. I started April only doing the Shred everyday, and I could feel myself getting stronger. I started added other exercises to my routine because I finally had the energy and…

With the Shred, we each aimed to do the full 30 days and posted our progress as we went along through April. We're going to try and do the same thing here with JM's Ripped in 30 - just try and do it daily throughout May (of course not everyone can get it in everyday, but it's helpful to have the motivation and support of…

They're actually quite good - I honestly couldn't tell the difference between them and normal noodles but I was cooking them in a rather heavily flavored Indian sauce.
