  • Dear derocco, It somehow seems that maybe you want to like vegetables...that you think they are healthy and good for you and feel that you should be eating more of them. This is a good time to explore the reasons why you hate veggies. Aversions are part of conditioned behavior and eating habits are established early in…
  • Hi! Me too! I am a vegetarian of 16 years (and I am only 29!). I've had bouts of veganism that have last one or two years in a stretch here and there. At the moment I live in Istanbul, probably the most challenging place for being a vegetarian that I've ever been lived in. There's no interesting stuff here like tofu or…
  • JINX! What the heck! I just somehow double posted the same msg....weird. Arg I just jinxed myself
  • Of course! I always want popcorn or something. Okay, I am going to make a study snack packet for each study session and stick to it. No extra trips to the kitchen and study break will be a walk in the hood. -D

  • Go on - do it! Weigh yourself everyday and get in tune with your body. It's one of the best things I've ever done. It's all water. You can bet a salty dinner the night before means a couple of extra pounds of water weight. On the other hand if you only weigh yourself once a week it means that you are not in tune with the…
  • Why is it that every time I find myself back in school I feel extra hungry. As soon as I start working on a paper I get hungry and I feel hungry while I am writing. Is it because thinking uses SO many calories - or am I a stress eater? Well, I think that I don't eat a lot in other stressful situations, but as soon as I…
  • I second the iPod or other MP3 players. I absolutely DEPEND on several podcasts to keep me moving: 1. Podrunner!!! - one of the best electronic mixes for walkers and runners. Mixes are all the same tempo and about an hour long. If you know your stride length you can estimate distance, number of steps taken and mi/hour if…
  • Okay...well today I got an extra walk in and it was 23 minutes from one side of town to the next to meet a friend...that was not part of the normal walk to work I usually do. I guess the thing to do is just log the ones that are extra and over 20 minutes in length...whaddayall think?
  • Okay...this may seem like I'm getting overly complicated...but... I usually get up in the morning for a walk/run and log those exercise minutes religiously. But, then an hour after breakfast I usually walk to work. This walk is about 12 minutes one way and is quite hilly. Then in the evening I walk home another 12 minutes.…
  • I heard the same thing...ankle weights are not good to use while you are trying to do aerobic exercise, as they add more stress to joints and tendons. I think they are best used for doing resistance training. Try leg lifts and stuff like that instead of bouncing around with them on. That's my two cents... -D
  • Thanks for your tips shkaki! I've been thinking about it for a long time actually...its been years now. I have had a variety of my own businesses in the past and I know how to work off of contacts. I once moved myself out of one kind of work into another line of work by collecting resources and contacts. The transition was…
  • I've looked into the certs a bit. But the certs aren't enough ???? :noway: Geez, it just seems that the education bit just never ends. I will have been in school most of my life if I choose this job. I am starting my masters in education and I just can't imagine another 4 years in school to become a personal trainer, not…
  • and make a little money too? I am a teacher and I love my job. I was thinking about becoming a personal trainer because I am good at motivating my students. I think that by becoming a personal trainer I would be able to transfer my teaching / motivating skills to help other people get fit and stay in shape. I have always…
  • I can imagine all the emotions you must be having... All I want to say is: PUT YOURSELF FIRST (They always say put your oxygen mask on first before helping others) Is there any way that you can take your emotions and use them as a force for powerful and lasting change in your life? There are lots of great resources online…
  • Laura, You're right. The lasting changes come from small steps...not giant leaps! Small changes are manageable on a day to day basis, arent they!? But the BIG steps, leaps and bounds sure do take a lot of energy to perform. Diet and exercise are only part of a life in balance and energy needs to go things like family,…
  • My will power mantra is a question. HOW do I want to FEEL? When I go to a restaurant, I also say to myself... Stop. Think....Order. :flowerforyou:
  • Hi! The first question I would like to ask you is....Did you find out your BMR yet??? Your BMR is the amount of calories that your body would burn if you just laid around all day...to keep your heart beating and keep your lungs pumping etc. Find out what that is and adjust your calories to be closer to that...going below…
  • There are many suggestions about this but this is my favorite obsessive routine... In the morning, after I have a pee, and with no clothes on. In the evening at least two hours after eating in the buff. Everyday! Why? Because you tune into all the adjustments your body makes...you begin to realize how much your body…
  • klikittyklak, you're my hero! uhhh....heroin! I knew it was some cool magical reved up metabolism thingy! No I have a real reason to pull myself up out of bed on those "bad days" and go for a walk! I'll never let it be an excuse again!!

  • If you have a flavorful snack like that one way I have found to stop the craving to eat more (after you've eaten your serving) is to brush your teeth and drink a glass of water. Actually cleaning the bright orange goodness off of your teeth and tongue will help you to resist having more than you ought to because the…
  • Yeah...I agree. But don't throw them in the garbage!! - Donate them!! Someone probably needs them as badly as you need some new pairs of pants. You'll be feeling twice as good for losing the weight and helping someone in need! Maybe jamster is right...too...but just one pair (the biggest!)
  • Fantastic site! I had just read this site... http://education.wichita.edu/caduceus/examples/servings/visual_estimates.htm ...when I saw your post.
  • Yeah...I always estimate on the low side with the website's estimates. I always subtract warm up and cool down times from the workout too. Hmmm...thinking about that heart rate monitor now...I really want one!
  • Gonna bump it again... Does anyone else feel hungrier during their cycle...I know I sure do! Any other solutions? -D
  • Yeah...thanks, I'll check out the happy meals. The water thing adds insult to injury sometimes because I live in Turkey and people DON'T use tampons here. I find myself in the restroom more often as it is...I suppose I could be taking care of my full bladder as well :grumble: But what I am dying to know is...is there a…

  • Hi ladies! I've been using this site for several months now and one thing I've noticed is that it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to stick to my calories during one week every month...I think you know what I am talking about, girls. That ONE week when I just feel like eating everything! Does this happen to any of you during your…

  • Dear Cerridwen, First, I'd like to say that you don't need to spend money on low cal and fat free foods. They are often full of chemicals (preservatives, sugar substitutes, colors etc). Those companies make advertising that makes you feel or believe that you can't do this without their products. It's total BULLS***. Fresh…

  • Often when we get to dieting we forget that eating is more than just calories in and calories burned. Various alcoholic beverages, especially wine and beer are well-known disease preventing, life expectancy prolongers! If you want to have a long life a glass of wine (or beer) a day, that's a fine idea...just keep your…
