  • Its not all about the calories. You will lose weight if you reduce your CHO intake to lower levels. You can increase that rate if you ALSO reduce your calories but you don't have to starve like you typically do on low calorie diets. This has been my personal experience.
  • If Atkins worked for you before then you should do what works for you. High CHO by itself is not necessarily a marker for coronary heart disease as much as your ratio of HDL to LDL.
  • First, congratulations! I think that the new version of the Atkins book has something for expectant mothers.
  • I know this is the Atkins Support Group but was wondering if anyone here read the Hellers' Carb Addicts books? It has some interesting concepts (options) specially in their Lifespan Program edition book. Some I have had in place prior to reading and at least one that I want to test. I am specifically speaking of the one…
  • I have the older model Polar A3 and am very happy with it. It doesn't calculate calories but I don't need it to since I am not focusing on calories but keeping within the correct heart rate zone. Got it cheap while out bargain hunting. Lots of people seem to be satisfied with their Polar HRMs.
  • Picked up a bag and will have to think how I want to prepare it.
  • Hmmm...speaking of CARB expeditions...I'm on one myself since turkey day and extending it to Black Friday. Going to do a nice long walk today (sun is out) to help mitigate the impact. LOL.....
  • I did try it with banana extract and its really yummy! My GF broke my grinder so I have to go and get a new gf....I meant a new grinder. LOL....What did I really mean???? LOL....Either way no MIM until I can grind my flaxseed!!!
  • Get Gary Taubes' "Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It" and/or "Good Calories, Bad Calories". Atkins will give you the diet and Taubes will give you the science. Both a must have for low-carbers. BTW, welcome aboard!!!! Also there is a low-carb group. I was surprise this thread is not part of that group but probably…
  • Reinforce your knowledge. Read Gary Taube's "Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It" and/or "Good Calories, Bad Calories". It will help connect the dots between the diet and the science.
  • Hope you've returned from your little CARB expedition!!!! Its okay to stray off the path once in awhile. It helps keep the journey in perspective.
  • Hi everyone!!! I've done low-carb about 5-6 times in the last 10 years. My weight has fluctuated around 40lbs during that time. I've done low cal and low fat diets and while they have also worked for me I prefer a low carb diet in the end. It also helps that there is science to back it up. This makes it easier for…
  • Welcome to the dark side folks. I suggest that you also do a search for Gary Taubes and his last two books. This will also help connect the dots and reinforce your perseverance if you get tempted for carbs.
  • Haven't tried them but have heard about them. A boon for low carbers thats for sure.
  • I believe that you can never go back to eating the way you did. If you do then you will be back to where you were. It shouldn't be a surprise and it seems that a lot of people do get surprised. Mind you I didn't say you can't go back to eating anything you've eaten before. I believe you can since you've reset your body to…
  • I don't count calories but since MFP does I note them. My main metric is carb intake.
  • Nice job on your centennial!! Keep up the good work!!!!
  • As always, good advice chrisdavey!
  • @chrisdavey - Thanks for the link!!! Its pretty cool!
  • Sounds yummy!!!
  • At first I used it to lose weight then to help me get leaner. It accelerated my weight loss and helped me get leaner when I reached my goal weight.
  • Im in the middle of my 36 right now. Went off schedule for the weekend and going to do a couple of 36 hour fast during the week - one today and probably one before my weight day on Friday.
  • I went out for some hot wings (Applebees) and some very good NW (US) microbrew a few days ago! It was so good since its been awhile since I've had a beer. Its nice to take a break once in awhile.
  • There is a cliche that says that everything works in dieting. You can try it and see if it works for you. I think your current carb intake looks fine. Going down to 100 or less will probably help get you going in the right direction. You can also do some form of intermittent fasting (IF) and that may also do the same…
  • I agree with this. If I recall correctly much of this is due to the reduction of insulin in the bloodstream (as long as you are not insulin resistant). With lower insulin levels more fat is released from the bodies fat stores. Someone check me on this.
  • @Bluestar - While I don't have the background you are looking for I believe that my answer is valid. During the fast it is recommended that you keep your caloric intake close to 0 as possible. While having regular coffee will keep you in the single digits calorie wise, a skinny latte will be in the triple digits. If you…
  • Question for those of you who have been do IF daily. When you are sick do you continue to do IF or put it aside until you are back up to par? I've got a little bit of a cold and running a low grade fever and a few aches and pains. Eating seems to help me feel better and make it thru the day.
  • If you have a place that sells bulk foods you can usually get them cheap. We get them from Winco here in WA(US) and its 85 cents a pound.
  • Yummy. Will have to pick some up next time I'm grocery shopping. Thanks for sharing.
