You mean like this one? http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa0708681 Conducted over two years, between low carb, low fat, and mediterranean diets, which showed almost equal amounts of weight loss between all three groups?
-
Wow, this is so incorrect as to be almost laughable. ANY weight loss regimen works on one principle- caloric deficit. I don't care if you're in a ketogenic state or not. If you consume 6000 calories worth of bacon even while in a ketogenic state, you are still going to gain weight.

The books never mention any ratios other than to keep carbs low. I suspect the emphasis on protein was due to the untoward stigma that was placed on fats due to the overbearing (and incorrect) lipid hypothesis. However, look at any of the recipes in the book, or go to any literature regarding the Atkins diet (and the…

Congrats on your current success. Unfortunately, the only way to get that body fat percentage down is to do what you've been doing. Just keep at it.
-
As a student majoring in nutrition, you should know that Atkins is high fat, not high protein.

Taem, you come off as militantly vegan, you attack pretty much every other lifestyle that isn't yours, and when asked to back it up, you spout Internet dogma, severely outdated or irrelevant research, or anecdotal evidence. In any of these threads I have not once seen a shred of evidence for the ludicrously outdated claims…

What makes you think that someone who can't even be bothered to type "what is bump" in a google search would actually read this email and/or FAQ?
-
I third this. Go spend a day at somethingawful and come back and tell me these forums aren't loaded with treacle. How about everyone just stop being so sensi and remember that these r them internets.

Welcome to the interwebs, circa 1991. Not sure why you think MFP would be any different from every other forum on the planet.
-
Sorry, I should have said slow twitch leg muscle fibers.
-
But I dont know enough about the subject to know at what intensity you would start recruiting fast twitch fibers.
-
Yes, other than liver glycogen, a runner would be limited to (mainly) glycogen from slow twitch leg muscles.
-
Here is an extensive paper on estimating your glycogen storage, and how much of that your body will use, specifically in a marathon. http://www.ploscompbiol.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pcbi.1000960

Other than this ammonia smell, do you find yourself experiencing other symptoms of severe glycogen depletion past about the two hour mark? If not, your refueling schedule is most likely fine.
-
Most likely most of the "carb load" effect is almost akin to a placebo effect. However, if you are on a carb restricted diet (as I am assuming the OP is) in the first place, it's definitely going to make a difference in an endurance event.
-
Start carb loading two days before. Nope. I doubt it will help. How often do you refuel mid run? If it's just happening on long runs, and you don't care, don't worry about it. One of the main reasons for running long is to train your body to more efficiently use fatty acids as its fuel source after glycogen depletion.
-
There is no reasoning. This is typical unscientific nonsense that gets regurgitated at gyms among uninformed trainers and meatheads. Eat your carbs whenever you want, at whatever time. It doesn't matter one bit.
-
Yep.
-
Yup. The inside of the thing has to be BONE DRY when you put it in the freezer, otherwise you will have this problem. It's really aggravating- enough so that I returned it and just bought regular pop makers. Pretty much, your best bet is to just leave it out for 10-20 minutes and let the pops melt a bit.
-
I'm not even a low carb eater. I just have a problem with blanket untruths or articles written for the sole purpose of attracting readership, which this clearly seems to be.
-
This is possibly the most ridiculous thing I've seen on the forums as of late. You could also get your 40 grams of carbs from 8 pounds of broccoli, but getting those 40 grams from potato chips suppiles very few nutrients. See what I did there?
-
Sigh. This is such an outdated theory that really never was able to be backed up by any real science. So... nutrition information from a recipe website. Need I say more?

Hey bro, If for some reason oldness of the study in your mind affects the validity of it, try this one on for size: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19943985 If you dont care enough to register for the entire study (free) that is not my problem, nor does it lessen the validity of said study. Another- an extensive review…

I am still waiting for you to back up this statement of "fact" with anything remotely resembling actual fact. I'm guessing you won't return to this thread, because you can not back it up. I, on the other hand, can show you a two year study that shows that in addition to winning the weight loss battle, a low carb diet in…

Sounds like a simple case of TMTS (too much too soon) to me. I doubt that other shoes would have fared any differently.
