  • 250g is actually quite a good amount of carbs. Your doctor probably wanted you to cut the processed carbs, like white bread and white sugar. Are you eating enough fat? Are you eating enough at all? At 250g, you can still have things like whole grain bread, brown rice, and the like.
  • Since I weigh a lot, my calories are pretty high just on a regular basis. Once I work out...oh forget it. LOL Eating that much is odd to me because I've done the normal "fat girl" thing and basically starved my body. Since starting on MFP, I notice that the days I DO eat closer to my calorie goal, and especially on workout…
  • 1200 should be your minimum every day. It's sometimes hard to reach, but you should try not to do too many days under 1200 calories a week. I know that personally, the closer I get to my calorie goal, the better I seem to lose weight. Seems counterproductive, but it's true!
  • That's wonderful!! Good job!!!!
  • We all lose fairly quickly at first because it's a BIG jump for most of us going from eating whatever we want in fairly unlimited quantities to following a diet plan and cutting calories down. I lost 12 pounds in the first 2 weeks and have been plateaued while my body catches up. Being a guy, you're simply going to lose…
  • Welcome to MFP! Those first few steps can be hard, especially when you have a significant amount to lose. We can all give you advice and support, but your real motivation has to come from within yourself. What do YOU want? Do you want to feel healthier? Do you want to add years to your life? Do you want to be strong for…
  • I measure whenever I start getting angry at the scale, which is about once a week.
  • If you're a veteran of low carb diets, you know that eventually you hit a plateau and it usually comes around the 3rd week. I've been gaining and losing the same pound for about 2 weeks now after a 12 pound loss in the first 2 weeks. It sucks! A lot! But that's where the scale gets you. You don't SEE results, but it…
  • I have Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Extra Meal For Low Cal Day, and Snacks.
  • You can do it! :) I am so happy that I have MFP every day to check into and all the support I've received here has been awesome. I have just under 200 pounds to lose, so I totally know what it's like to be in this for the long haul. But we will succeed!!
  • Look for DVDs or classes in Zumba Gold. Those are designed for the older population. :) You could also look around your area for Aqua Zumba classes, which are easier on the joints but of course still a great calorie burner.
  • I wouldn't worry about fruit/veggie sugar too much, unless your doctor has told you to watch that. What you want to avoid is added sugar - white sugar, high fructose corn syrup, etc. Natural sugar from fruits should not be too much of an issue, but if you're really worried, find a list of low glycemic fruits to choose from…
  • A lot of friendships don't end with a bang, they simply die off quietly. Neither of these girls seem to remember the most important part of a friendship: You're not the only important one in it. And I think all of us have been there at some point, especially when we're young and there is so much going on in our lives after…
  • I always find Laughing Cow in the deli with the "fancy" cheeses like brie and havarti.
  • Almost all my jeans are dream jeans at this point. LOL! But I do have a pair that I haven't been able to wear in YEARS, and even when I could fit into them, I was only able to wear them maybe 3 or 4 times before I outgrew them. It's going to be a while before I'll be able to get in them, but I'm sure as heck going to try!
  • I just started zumba last week and I LOVE it. It's an amazing calorie burner, and just so so much fun!
  • Usually every other day. It drives me mad if I do it daily, but I can't seem to stand doing it once a week. My bf had to take the scale out of the bathroom when I was going all 2-5 times a day crazy with weighing, but if I only do it once, I'm not quite as bad off.
  • I don't have PCOS but I follow a lower carb/no added sugar diet. The best advice I can give you is to initially shop for REAL food. Lean protein and lots of veggies and fruit. Check labels carefully. You'll be surprised how much added sugar [corn syrup, molasses, honey, etc] is added into things. I've recently added in…
  • This is a really good article!
  • How awful! Maybe you can see about getting some videos for people who do chair exercises until you've recovered? They are super super low impact but still good for exercise.
  • If you're shooting for 5-10lbs a week, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Trust me, I know! Your body is not going to lose what you want every single week. It's just not. Take measurements, they're going to be the better indicator of your progress.
  • Are you eating enough? How much do you weigh? Are you taking any medications that might be interfering with your loss?
  • At my weight, I have a lot of calories to eat every day. If I work out, it's even more, since I am normally burning anywhere from 400-800 calories depending on what I'm doing. Eating "clean" the way that I do, sometimes I feel like I'm eating all day long and barely getting to 1200. It can be hard if you have more calories…
  • Those packets of ready to eat salmon on top of a salad is my favorite go-to lunch when I can't figure out anything else. Make up a big ol' stir fry with chicken and shrimp and you can easily take it to work to heat up.
  • The common misconception is that Atkins is and remains a "no" carb diet. It's not all meat, all the time. The program is written to gradually add GOOD carbs, like whole grains, back into your life. If you're considering doing 2 weeks of low carb just to kick start your weight loss, you most likely are setting yourself up…
  • This is not so much going into ketosis as it is detoxing all the processed junk from your body. Atkins Induction is very much like a detox and you WILL feel sick for a few days. Google "Induction Flu" and you'll see what I mean. But once it's over [anywhere from 3-5 days usually], you will feel REALLY good. Also, if you…
  • I avoided milk when doing mine. Although the sugar in milk is not like processed sugar, I just didn't feel like taking the chance. I basically stuck with real food the whole time. No breads, pasta, etc. Veggies, lean protein, real cheeses [not Velveeta], and lower glycemic fruit like cherries and strawberries, but never…
  • If you're choosing Atkins, do it by the book. Do your two weeks of Induction, and then progress up in levels to add back in more fruits and veggies and whole grains. It's really a great program when done properly. :)
  • It's a Latin infused aerobics class. It is SO much fun!! I went to my first class last night. Along with the more "normal" aerobics moves, we did moves from salsa, merengue, cumbia, belly dance, and ball room. It was fantastic! Look up some YouTube videos of classes. I bet you'll want to go do it!
  • Everyone has the same 24 hours a day. What most people DON'T have is time management skills. Once I gave up Facebook games, I suddenly had a LOT more time because Facebook doesn't really interest me outside of the games. I used to spend at least an hour planting crops, cooking meals, clearing trees, doing quests, and…
