Out of curiosity, what principles am I failing to grasp? After that, I promise I will no longer hi-jack the OP thread

[/quote] Lil' bitta nope in your post. The amount of muscle which would need to be gained to burn a significant amount of fat is pretty big. How are you so sure you're building muscle while in a deficit? As you said, it's hard for a woman to build muscle... especially in a deficit. What is lean muscle? Is there fatty…

Look at it this way....the more muscle you build, the more calories you burn without doing anything. More calories burned equals less fat. Muscle is not bulky, it's sexy! It is rather difficult for women to get "bulky", even with heavy lifting. I lift relatively heavy, and am still losing weight and building lean muscle. I…

I have been using New Rules of Lifting for Women and love it. I have actually completed the program, and am repeating the last stage until I finish reading New Rules Supercharged  I found the program to be perfect for a beginner, but was also challenging when I needed it to be. Through it I found that I LOVE…

I hated the prone jackknife when I started! Mostly because I was a failure with them lol. I fell off the ball, couldn't bring my knees all the to my chest, and definitely could not make it through the entire set. All that made me want to do it right though. I kept at it and as I got stronger everything got better. The…

@palwithme ....Find a different instructor. A good instructor encourages you not humiliates you. Group classes should be fun. It's not about the steps but about MOVING!

Last week at the gym I moved a lightly loaded barbell off an incline bench so I could do dumbbell bench presses....set it on the floor until I was done. Went to put it back; easy right? I got it down I can put it back...nope....should have unloaded it but I was determined. Guess after my lift I was a bit fatigued lol. A…

I love "New Rules of lifting for Women". It has a lot of information and describes.the.lifts really well IMO. I had no problems starting with the 45 lb bar, but I also wasn't new to the gym. As for having energy for my normal day, I've found that my workouts actually boost my energy levels . I love seeing myself get…

I'm in stage 3 right now, and honestly still loving it. My first bwm was horrific , but improved the second workout. I find A more challenging, so I prefer it over B. Although I do love the intervals. What moves do you have trouble with? I agree that some are very awkward at first, but with practice get easier. I know I…

Just curious...arditarose, why couldn't you do "New Rules"?

I love "New Rules of Lifting for Women". I've been a gym goer for a while, but having a program to follow makes it so much better. And it changes up from time to time so I don't get bored. See if your library has it so you can see if its for you before buying it. Or maybe you can find it used for cheap.

You did say "like minded people".....how about gals who want a six pack? ;)

Hey all! I haven't posted much but I read through the thread daily for tips and inspiration. I just wanted to share a couple small victories from the gym last night :)! 1: I did my first 90 second plank! I was so thrilled when I made it that I looked around for someone I knew to tell, but couldn't find anyone :( lol. 2:…

It's so wonderful feeling yourself get stronger! :D

Hi all! I just recently joined the group and have been reading for tips:). I just started stage 2 of NROLFW and I LOVE it! Just did 2A today and I have to say that I think I like B better than A for some reason. Any tips on the FSPP? I was surprised that I could get the oly bar up the first set, and today I added 5 pounds.…

I recently finished stage 1, and at first I hated the jackknife, but that just made me want to beat it! Lol. After a while I quit falling off the ball and my form started to get better and I actually liked the evil move. I think I'm going to miss it now that I'm in stage 2. I never did get up to 15 reps, but at least I did…

Hi all! I've been doing the program and am about to finish stage 1. I tried it once before but was discouraged and didn't finish. I am determined to see it through this time. I will actually finish with my special workout B on new years eve and am very excited about stage 2. This is the first group I've joined too :)

I just recently had a hysterectomy in July. I wasn't told anything about how to eat afterwards, but I was not to lift anything more than 10 pounds (a little heavier than a gallon of milk) for a minimum of 6 weeks. At my 2 week post op I asked about body weight exercises and was given a definite "NO". I had to wail until my…

Oh I forgot this one...probably blocked it out actually . I personally tried herbalife years back. I did the shakes and pills and all. The pills were huge and they reeked! I was taking 20+ pills a day I think. And the shakes weren't much better. I did lose a small amount of weight but I got to the point where I couldn't…

I'm surprised I haven't seen the so called military diet....I can't remember exactly what's on it but you're on it for a couple days at a time then eat what ya want then back....you definitely have to Google that one lol. I do remember saltine crackers and tuna being a staple. Tuna is great but the crackers? And it's…

Google good running form and you can find a lot of tips to help w your issues. A few tips that helped me a lot were to carry imaginary eggs in your hands (sounds silly I know). That will help keep you from tensing your arms. Time your breathing w your steps. Breath in for 4 steps and out for 4 steps. I try to focus on my…

O.p. congratulations on finishing the C25K!! I've done it before but have fallen off the fitness wagon :( . I am actually starting over on the program today and looking forward to it. Hopefully I will be able to finish outdoors before winter hits; otherwise treadmill here I come (but I HATE treadmills lol).…

I am also starting C25K tomorrow. I have actually done it before and loved it and it worked really well for me. I was never a runner and after a few weeks of the program I actually found I enjoyed my runs. Unfortunately I have had some backsliding with my diet and exercise; hence my starting over. I also agree with some…

Can you be my personal trainer?? ;)

My question is why would you want friends who have NEVER gained weight in the first place? Yes, they may be fit and healthy, and you can learn from their lifestyle...but they can't give you any advice on losing weight. If you haven't gone through it, you don't know what it's like. I used to be skinny and I thought that 1)…
