  • Excellent question. so why might I be afraid to lose weight? Hmmm. Last time I lost weight, people were telling me good I looked. Okay, that's nice. So then the pressure was on to maintain the status quo because now it was out there. So how was I going to handle stress if I couldn't put food in my mouth for comfort? So…
  • You've already taken an important step by signing up and asking for support. I really like this site and am inspired by the posts that I read. I signed up for health reasons too but logging on and completing my food diary is a better motivator than my health,:ohwell:
  • Congratulations! Be proud!:glasses:
  • cooked oatmeal with fruit is filling. Works for me. I may have a slice of whole wheat toast if I'm still hungry.
  • I know that I need to keep on doing the "do's" when my motivation is low. Back to basics of filling in the food log everyday is a big help. You have come a long way with your weight loss. Congratulations! Don't ever take that effort away from yourself. It probably felt like slug work and not always enjoyable but you did…
  • Good for you for joining. You can get support by reading what others on MFP are saying. Keeping my food diary is very important to me because I become more careful about what I eat when I see how many calories are in certain foods. And I like to read about people's successes and their struggles. It helps me to feel that…
  • Congratulations! you are an inspiration to us all. Great pics too!
  • that's great. I have tried weight loss programs several times and have always been told that I can't do it myself. With MFP I feel like I'm not doing it alone but I don't have to spend all that money to get there!
  • you have all been so inspirational for me today. I've been slipping a bit and am getting back on track. I did best when I always had something healthy to eat in the house. Its going out for meals that gets me off track. Thanks for the great ideas! I needed the boost.
  • That's wonderful. Good for you!:flowerforyou:
  • Good for you. one step at at time.:flowerforyou:
  • I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes about 7 years ago. I am taking medication but not insulin. I never did get into counting carbs, etc. and tried to follow a food guide. A few years ago I started following the GI Plan (books written by Rick Gallop) and really liked it. It was excellent for stabilizing my blood sugar and…
  • Let me know how you are doing. I like this website for a lot of reasons including the support that people can offer each other.
  • I have had to find an approach where I can eat about 5 times a day..regular meals plus snacks in between..actually 3 snack times and 3 meals. I rely on protein and especially fibre to keep my blood sugar regular. Its not only to manage my diabetes but its also to manage my craving and feel that I am not depriving myself as…
  • I turned 61 this year and have had to change my lifestyle, including weight and exercise, because of breast cancer. Fat cells just love to store estrogen! I have been following the GI Plan sort of but staying within the calorie range of MFP. I want to tighten up on the GI plan because I find that it helps stabilize my…
  • Good for you for getting back on track. That is what counts.
  • I started following the GI Plan a few years ago and found it more helpful than any other that I tried. And believe me, I have been on diets since my early twenties. I've had enough of that. I wanted to find a way to eat so that I wouldn't be depriving myself. I also have Type 2 Diabetes so have to watch my glucose levels.…
  • Welcome and congratulations for taking an important step. I find the food log to be very helpful and just weigh and measure myself once a week. Ideally, I "should" lose about 45 pounds but I am not looking that far ahead. If I lose a pound a week I am satisfied. I've already lost 5 pounds that I used to carry around...that…

  • Congratulations and thanks for the photos. They are truly inspiring! I'm just 3 weeks in and am feeling better physically already. I'm working at losing slowly and trying to keep my expectations realistic otherwise I get easily discouraged.
  • Welcome:flowerforyou: You've made an important start. Small steps often feel big in themselves so congratulations for signing in and asking for support. I am breaking my goals into small steps 5 lbs at a time. If I thought about my ideal total weight loss, it would feel impossible and discouraging for me. And I need all…
  • I turned 61 this year and have just got back on track following the GI Plan (eat foods that are lower on the Glycemic Index). It stabilizes my blood sugar (I have Type 2 diabetes) and has lowered my cholesterol in the past. I hate exercise but got a jump start on it with help in a fitness class that I go to for cancer…
  • Welcome from Ontario. I'm working on a 1 lb/week weight loss and trying not too get my expectations too high. I get discouraged easily and its important for me to keep myself going a step at a time. :flowerforyou:
  • My wake up call was when I was diagnosed with hormone receptive breast cancer and was told that estrogen was stored in fatty tissue, for one thing, and that it has been "feeding" the cancer cells which love it. My cholesterol level was out of whack too! So I decided that if I wanted to live to see grandchildren I better…
  • check out your BMI. That will give you a range. You can find it on line and go from there.
  • Thanks for the tip. I looked up the website and saved it as a Bookmark. :flowerforyou:
  • Get rid of the Pringles..it may feel good to stomp on them and crush them then throw them out.
  • The GI Plan stands for Glycemic Index. I use books written by Rick Gallop. I followed his plan a few years ago and it helped lower and stabilize my glucose level like nothing else. I highly recommend it. My doctor does too. I'm back on track again and feeling much better.
  • Good for you! One day at a time.:flowerforyou:
