I just began a program that involves the first month just building muscle and lifting. However, I want to lose fat as well. How many calories should I be eating? Should I be in a deficit or trying to gain??

Has anyone completed this program? How much should I be eating in order to tone up and lose weight? Some say that I should not have a calorie deficit but I don't know if I should be eating the amount of calories I need to maintain or to gain?

Suggestions for workouts

Need to tone up?
I am at a healthy weight for my height range (5'8 130 lbs) but I still wish I could tone up. I swim every single day and eat 1200 calories a day but it doesn't seem to help any. Does anyone have any suggestions?
