Maintainers Weekly Check-In - July 2018
(It doesn't look like fidangul has been on MFP for a few weeks now, and I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow, so I'm going to go ahead and post the July 2018 check-in thread now, even if it is a full week early...) Hello there maintenance friends old and new!!! This thread is a continuation from the previous month. The aim of…

Indulgence Days
Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I decided I should create a list of days this year to "indulge," i.e., just relax and eat for special occasions; I came up with this list: 1. New Year's Day 2. My birthday 3. Valentine's Day 4. Easter Sunday 5. Memorial Day 6. Independence Day 7. Labor Day 8. Wife's birthday 9. Our…

Book Review - Sugar: Matter of Life and Death
Today's Wall Street Journal has a review of The Case Against Sugar, which argues that obesity and weight loss are NOT a simple matter of CI<CO. The author (Gary Taubes) asserts that sugar consumption alters the body's insulin response and this leads to obesity, rather than excessive calorie consumption. Additionally,…

Goal Met
Leaving for vacation today to see family and friends I haven't seen in a year and a half. Started on New Year's Day at 262 pounds, now at 184 pounds (the goal was 186 pounds), for a 78-pound loss. BMI has gone from 33.7 to 23.6, and body fat from about 30% to about 15%. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the…

Why are the last pounds "slow"?
I've read several times in different posts that it is very common that as an individual approaches his/her goal weight, the last pounds come off slowly? Why is this? Is there research that documents this, or is it just anecdotal perceptions? And, if there is research, what is the point at which weight loss slows? Is it at…

New Goal Ideas
As I approach my target weight for 2016, I'm trying to come up with a new goal (or new goals) to take the place of the weight loss goal for 2017. What goal (or goals) have you created once you reached your target weight? What time frame did you give yourself for your goal(s)?

Peer Reviewed Articles
Has anybody--either in an MFP forum, or personally--gathered/curated a set of peer-reviewed, research journal articles that they have found particularly helpful in explaining the various aspects of weight loss (e.g., diet/nutrition, fitness/exercise, psychology)? I would be interested in seeing such a list in order to…

Difference between predicted and actual weight loss
Since January 1 of this year, I've been tracking, on a daily basis, "calories out" using my Fitbit Charge HR, and "calories in" using MyFitnessPal. Keeping all the data in an Excel spreadsheet, I have compared my actual weight loss with that predicted by the above data. On an ongoing, cumulative basis, the actual weight…

Maintenance Range
My goal weight is 186 pounds, which I'm on track to make by New Year's. As I transition into maintenance at that point, what would you recommend for the weight range to stay in, e.g., 183-189, 181-191--in other words, how many pounds above/below my goal weight is good amount to stay in? Thanks in advance!
