40 40 20??
Is anyone doing a 40 40 20 food plan and able to share some meal ideas? I am only aiming for 1200 calories max due to medication I have to take but keen to see some ideas so I can put together some meal plans :-)

Not sure which way to go
Feeling like I am at a very uncomfortable crossroads with my weight. Have put on a couple of kilos which is cool but now I find myself wondering which way to turn. If I had a magic wand I'd gain a good amount of muscle as would really like some definition and a bit of size in my shoulders particularly. But another part…

Minimum protein intake
Is there a minimum level of protein required to add muscle?? There is so much conflicting information and I am wanting to maximise muscle gain so wondering how much I really need per day. I am 164cm and 47kg (small framed and nearly 44 years old) My intake varies (rarely enter much in food diary) but usually try for 60g…

Swimming.....
What is it about swimming that nails you like no other exercise. It seems to be fairly commonly experienced that swimming creates tiredness like no other sport. Does anyone know why that is?

Good routine for newbies??
Hi everyone I am 43 and wanting to build some muscle and lose a little bit of fat (not a lot as I am already in ok shape - I am 164cm and about 48kg) My primary sport of choice is swimming but also run and have just gotten into kettlebells. Have dabbled with them for a week or so at a time over the past two years but now…

Share your story
I am very new to barefoot running, having tried it for the first time last night after having knee problems the last three times I have tried running. Part of the problem I am convinced was due to expensive but wrong for me Asics Gel Trabuco shoes. So this time I am doing the C25K barefoot. Did the first session last night…

Looking for an app...
Where you can plug in body parts and equipment and it will spit out a workout for you. For example I might choose shoulders glutes chest and triceps, dumbbells and it would give me some suggested exercises reps and sets. Does such an app exist??

Exercises to strengthen knee

How long for TRUE loss or gain to show
Curious how long it takes for true weight gain or loss to show on the scales. For example if your eating habits go astray when would you expect to see the damage on the scales? A week? A month?

What's the deal with Maca??
I have read it helps with weight loss but have also read as many stories of it leading to weight gain!!! Was considering using it for its nutritional aspects and to support distance running but am a tad apprehensive around its effects on body weight.

For those who have started gaining
I have inadvertently dropped weight from changes in training and mostly from giving up my chocolate addiction lol. I am 43, 164cm small frame and about 45kg. This time last year I was about 50kg. My questions are. How do you overcome the mental aversion to seeing numbers rise. And how have you done it healthily so it's not…

When do you consider...
That you have run a half marathon. If you run 21.1km in training would you consider you have run a half marathon or would you save that status or achievement until you had done an actual event?

Effects of hormones on fitness etc?
Does anyone know if hormone changes in women over the month have an effect on fitness/endurance/strength?? Last week I managed a 15.7km run pretty okay and today (day 2 of cycle) I nearly died doing less than half of that!!

Groin strain!!
I am four weeks into a half marathon training plan with the aim to do my first half on 13 April. Have a minor groin strain and unsure whether I should take time off or keep going. It erupted on Sunday and has eased a bit but have only done two 5km runs since then. I am due to do my long run ie 90 minutes on Sunday but…

Fasted training?
I have read a lot about intermittent fasting and strength training but keen to know if it's compatible with endurance exercise. I do about an 18:6 daily approach and usually break my fast after my post work workout. Have been doing this for about 2 years and love it!!! I have just taken up running while laid off swimming…

Help!!
Need advice!!! Has anyone had AC joint issues and recovered? I have had nearly two weeks off swimming and physio has given me one exercise to do with a resistance band. Apparently it's called the robbery or hands up exercise - you start with hands crossed over then pull back and move arms into the hands up position as if…

Half marathon - is it possible?!
Runners - do you think 3 months is long enough to train for a half marathon?? I would like to do one and know there was one locally last April so would be keen to give it a shot this year when it comes around again on 13 April. Currently I am starting into running and want to build up carefully as I invariably get niggles…

First long run!!
Just did my first long run. Am following the sub 2.30 half marathon plan on Micoach and hoping to manage a half marathon on 13 April. Today I ran for 70 minutes outside which I was more than a bit daunted by but managed to do it without stopping. Ended up covering 11.8km so am fairly happy with that since I only started…

Niggles after running vs during running
Hi everyone I am doing the micoach half marathon plan for a half on 13 April. I have recently had a running assessment and bought shoes for my running style etc. Historically and to a lesser extent currently I tend to get niggles around the inside of knee or outside of foot (almost always left leg). I don't experience any…

How much of a shock am I going to get??
So today I signed up for and started a half marathon training plan. Today's run was 4 miles (starting on week 4 of a 16 week plan as my event is 12 weeks away) which I did at the gym on the treadmill in 40 minutes. The run felt surprisingly easy although I did do it without any incline. Which brings me to my question - how…

Started today!
So I signed up for the Runkeeper sub 2:30 plan - I am about four weeks late as its a 16 week plan and the half I want to do is in 12 weeks but will just modify the long runs until I am up to the distance. Did 6.5km on the treadmill today (I know road running is harder but want to ease into the longer runs) in 40 minutes…

Calling all Saucony lovers
I have done a lot of reading and it seems that the Kinvara 4 would suit my running style, needs and goals. Keen to hear feedback from anyone who has this shoe (good or bad) or other Saucony shoes. Unfortunately where I live there are no Saucony stockists so hope to try out a pair when I am out of town at a place that sells…

Neutral running shoes
I am looking for some new running shoes. I am a neutral towards forefoot runner currently doing low mileage but hoping to work towards a half marathon this year. If it's relevant I am 5'4" and about 103lbs.
