HISTORY OF THE FEMALE "IMAGE IDEAL"
The difference is astounding. In my opinion, Marilyn wins, hands down. http://www.d.umn.edu/~jvaleri/dissatisfaction with bodies.htm (This is an old student study, it is not not written by a health expert)

Chia seeds help to fill a person up...
(as part of a balanced diet)....is this really true? If so, how long does it take to feel the "full" effect? I have combined a couple of teaspoons of raw chia seeds (drank them down with 300ml water) with my lunch today in the hope that I dont crave any snacks for the next few hours like I usually do. NB. I'd love to know…

Cooking with cottage cheese
What are your favourite recipes which use cottage cheese in place of normal cheese or cream? Does cottage cheese melt well? Strangely, I have never really attemtped using it since I started my new healthier lifestyle. I'm quite a snacker, so both snacks and main meal ideas would be most welcome. I've found a few nice…

Trainers/Sneakers advice needed :)
This is a bit of a long shot but.....does anyone know much about the correct shoes to be wearing for the gym and for running (pavement and treadmill) as well as for circuit classes (jumps, lunges etc)? Should I buy this HRM?? No chest strap....
http://www.xone1.com/watches/heart-rate-sports-watch/ I am tempted, there are only a few left but given the fact the price is a lot less than a Polar (plus it has no "chest strap" do you think it'd be inaccurate? Any experts/seasoned HRM user out there who could give me their views?

190 cal creamy coronation chicken (easy)
I've been making this for years, it's extremely filling and is usually eaten cold in a big leafy salad or as a sandwich/wrap filler. It also tastes great warmed served over some wholewheat pasta or with cooked rice and vegetables as a warming meal. The main ingredient swap: ditch the usual base of mayo or cream and sub…

Where can you buy Spaghetti Squash in the UK?
Preferably within the London/Surrey areas? I am dying to try it as I love all types of squash and this just sounds amazing. All I have seemed to find are Spaghetti Squash seeds - but I don't even have a garden to grow them in.

"Sweat Vest" - another gimmick or worth a try?
I just saw an advert for these "Sweat Vests" and of course as a person always striving to lose weight, I was interested to know the science behind it. It claims that "An average person exercising 3-4 times a week wearing a Sweatz Vest can easily lose an extra 3-4 stones per year"........ :noway: My opinion is - it is too…

cycling and calf muscles
I've been cycling to and from work (a couple of miles only) 5 days a week and only occasionally do spin class. Someone very dear to me, whose opinion matters a lot, told me yesterday that my calves are looking bigger than before I started exercising. Since I started on MFP and living a healtheir lifestyle, I have toned up…

chia seed lovers:
i have tried soaking the seeds in water or juice and then drinking that after a few minutes time. however, i think it is vile. :noway: a bit like what i imagine frog spawn to taste like (and same texture - slimy gel). why do people do this as opposed to just putting a spoonful of seeds in your mouth and drinking it down…

UK based MFP's - 306cal lunch/dinner
Today I tried Waitrose's new low cal, low fat range: Love Life, You Count.... (I'm sure some of you have seen the inappropriate window display placement photo circulating the www, quite funny). Anyway let me tell you that the Lasagne is absolutely great and I would highly recommend it to all of you (non-vegetarians). 306…

Laughter (old news but nice to know!)
Something I found in my old email archives this morning: Healthy Lifestyle Tip: Laughter Can Keep the Weight Off Giggling for just 15 minutes a day burns enough calories to shed up to 3kgs of fat over a year. A big belly laugh uses about the same energy as walking more than half a kilometre, the U.S. study in the…

Sardine ideas anyone?
I have bought a pack of 8 fresh sardines, each of them about 5 - 6 inches long. I've cooked them before: pan-fried them after coating in some seasoned flour (delicious) but would like some new recipes if anyone has any? (I am not a fan of tinned tomatoes though, so no recipes which call for that ingredient please!) Thanks

Anyone tried Butter Buds before?
I am from the UK and really want to find a substitue for butter that isn't Flora Lighter than Light (mostly water and no buttery flavour) So I found Butter Buds for sale on Amazon.co.uk costing a whopping £12.99 for 4 x 2oz shakers....+ delivery cost! Is it worth me buying, does it taste like butter or is it artificial…

Sharp back pain after exercise
I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before: Every time I breathe in, I experience a sharp twisting kind of pain in the right side of my back - kind of behind the ribs. It has only started this morning, last night I did body conditioning circuit training (including using hand weights to work the back muscles),…

Quick (well-kown) tip to feel fuller...
Ok, I know it's an age-old and very widely used trick but for some reason this has totally worked for me today so I wanted to share my joy (wow, I need to get a life). If you always seem to still feel hungry after your meals, like me, use this little trick: Eat your meal with a small plastic teaspoon & take a few big gulps…

A question about egg whites (again)
I still eat about 4 of them a day - I find that they keep me fuller for longer so I will snack on a peeled hard boiled egg when hungry (unfortunately I chuck the yolk away for cholesterol and fat reasons but indulge in around 3 a week so am not totally depriving myself of their creamy loveliness) Question is: will too many…

Old School Ideal Weight Theories....say WHAT?!
According to one website, me being 5"4 and 157lb I am obese...I don't look obese, that's for sure (and they do say muscle weighs more than fat, but I shall not delude myself and go as far as to say I am pure muscle!) But look at the suggested weights over the years, it's amazing how they fluctuated (and the BMI range now…

Heinz Weight Watchers meals
I am generally a person who very rarely eats frozen meals or gets take aways: I love to cook and be in control over what exactly goes in my food....but I thought these would be worth a try for winter working lunches as the calorie count is super low (todays lunch was 200 cals, 4g of fat and really quite filling) In all…

Yoga and Weightloss
I have only been doing yoga since June - I LOVE it. I am a beginner but I am hooked. Please can someone tell me if it is combined with exercise say 3 - 4 times a week, it can contribute to some type of weight loss or alter the body shape in a desirable way? I know it's already helped my posture at my desk/when sedentary.

1,500 calories a day
Is anybody else trying to lose weight slowly (and steadily, I like to think) too? I see so many people on here with calorie goals around the 1,200 mark and personally, even sticking to 1,400 - 1,500 is tough enough for me! So all praise goes to you guys on the lowest calorie goal diets - I don't know how you do it :drinker:

Fruit = fat?
We all know fruit is good for us, lots of nutrients and vitamains, that is a given. If most fruit = high sugar levels (albeit in fructose form, not processed), then surely high sugar levels = fattening? So really, fruit is beneficial to our weight loss but it appears it can also be detrimental. Right or wrong? A…
