Pregnancy Craving Satisfied! LOL
So, yesterday I was craving crusty bread and different kinds of cheese....... stopped off at a little deli on my way home, got a french baguette and the lady behind the deli counter was kind enough to humor me and slice her way through no less than 4 different kinds of cheese, at only a couple slices per "kind"..... can't…

I never thought I would be a "Yoga Person"....
This weekend, my hubby and I took our kids on a trip to the beach - enjoyed ourselves and the time together, packed some healthy foods for myself along with the snacks and munchies for everyone else (bananas, apples, yogurt, juice, etc). I indulged here and there (dark chocolate bar with my ice water by the pool!), but did…

Whiney Point - Lessons Learned
Thought I'd throw this out there, though I'm sure it's been mentioned many times.... I have never done much in the way of "traditional" exercise. I've always counted my lifestyle activities as my cardio, embraced walks, played tag with my kids in the yard, taken the stairs... etc, etc, etc. I didn't think I *liked*…

WOOT WOOT!!!
I've had my stationary bike for 5 weeks now.... when I first got it, I struggled to pedal a mile on the darned thing, but I'm a bit Irish, (accounts for the fact that I'm STUBBORN) so I've kept it up. My limit has been 8 miles for about a week and a half now, just couldn't seem to break that imaginary limit..... my max was…

Help! If my HRM says I burn....
I have a Polar F11. If it says I burn 2900 cals in 24 hours on an exercise day... should I believe that? I've tested it several times, and average between 2800 and 3000 cals in 24 hours when I bike 8 miles on my stationary bike during that time period...... How many calories should I be eating on those days? I am trying to…

Polar Heart Rate Monitor - battery question
Hiyas all, I have a Polar F11 - it won't upload data to the polar site (seems quieter? not sure though), but seems to be fine otherwise..... so my question is - when do you know it's time to change the battery? Are there signs ahead of time, or does it just go completely dead? Has anyone just gone to a jeweler to change it…

$5.00 food scale
I've been putting off getting a food scale..... 1. Thought I probably didn't need one, why spend the extra money? 2. Thought they would cost an arm and a leg.... Well, I found one at Bed Bath and Beyond for $5.99. Even better, I had one of those junk mail coupons for 20% off any one item in the store. So.... out the door,…

Recipe Substitution for Heavy Cream
Hiyas all - I've been experimenting with recipes to try to make them a little healthier.... For example, my family LOVES stuff like White Chicken Chili - calls for quite a bit of heavy cream. Well, I've been substituting canned evaporated milk for anything that calls for heavy cream... as long as you don't have to whip it…

Help?! Figuring out goals....
According to my Polar F11 and several averaged 24 hour periods of time with constant wear.... I "burn" about 2600-2800 calories on a daily basis with my regular activities. What would the recommended "daily activity" level be for me? Say I want to lose 2 lbs a week. Is this how I'd do the math for that? 2600 (total…

Missed cals yesterday - eat them today?
I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times..... I didn't have time to log my dinner cals last night, and made a new recipe.... I was sure it was a lot more calories than it turned out being when I entered everything into a recipe calculator this morning. Turns out I barely ate 1100 cals yesterday - should I make up some…

"Paleo Diet" Question
I have seen several people here mention that they eat to "paleo standards" etc, usually stating that they eat primarily meat/proteins with a very small amount of "healthy carbs".... I'm not terribly educated on carbs/fiber.... but for those of you eating to "paleo standards" - how much fiber is in your daily diet? Is it…

Weekend Update - 13 inches and 10 lbs gone
DISCLAIMER - the 13 inches gone were of HAIR.... I donated again to Locks of Love (I am now up to 6ft 4 inches donated since I started many years ago... there are a couple of little kids running around somewhere with brand new thick brown hair that they always wanted!). My hair is now short, and I like it. I think I tend…

HELP! Got my HRM - Major confusion ensues
Okay, so my HRM came yesterday. Got an Acumen Basix WS. Here are the problems I already see: 1. The only "Profile" information you can enter is your AGE. That's it. Not weight, height, fitness level... seems to me it can't be very accurate with just that, can it?? I assume as it's a women's HRM it already calculates that I…

HRM's - Polar vs Reebok
Well, I almost accidentally hijacked a thread and decided I had enough questions that I'd better start my own. LOL I'm seriously considering the purchase of a HRM - I've seen several posts with the opinion that the Reebok ones are just as good as Polar ones, for 1/3 of the price. Anyone have a Reebok HRM? Does it have a…
